Park Savoy Hotel

Is it a quirky, old New York City building with a small and slow elevator? Yes. Turndown service with pillow mints? No. Does the elevator function safely? Yes. Is the hotel clean? Yes. Is it nears subways? Yes. Is it near the places you want to see and go in NY? Yes. Are the hotel employees pleasant and helpful? Yes. Are there a variety of restaurants nearby? Yes. Do the rooms have everything you need while on a NYC adventure? Yes. Is it a few minutes’ walk to Central Park, 5^th Avenue, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, MOMA and dozens of other NYC attractions? Yes, yes, yes and yes!
Obviously the pros outweigh the cons, unless you’re super high maintenance. So if you’re looking for Ritz level service, you’d better be ready to pay Ritz level prices– especially in NYC! I stayed for 3 nights on the 4^th floor. The room was small, but completely functional. It had a bed, nightstand, wardrobe, desk and a side chair. Both windows in the room opened, which made me very happy– even in 30 degrees, I like it open just a crack. The bathroom also had a window and had everything you’d need, and a few small toiletries too! I didn’t use the breakfast service from the shop next door, so I can’t comment on that.
I truly have no complaints. As some of the other reviewers mentioned, the elevator is slow and small. That was literally my only minor gripe, and I passed the extra couple minutes checking emails. I’m sure you can too. The location is great and the price was right by New York standards, I would definitely stay here again!

Face it, if you’re going to stay in a hotel in NYC and not blow away crazy money, you’re going to have to lower your standards. But if you’re here on a fun trip, then take a deep breath and exhale; it’s going to be okay. Park Savoy doesn’t have wifi, no excellent TV reception, or fancy gym. But in the end, all you really need is a place to relax and sleep. The real attractions is outside, not in here.
Great location. Just a block away from Central Park, train stations, and well known restaurants. The beds, although old, are comfortable, and I’ve gotten a great nights sleep all three nights I’ve been here. Mentally prepare yourself for a more cramped living style. The actual room is fine, but the bathroom is going to be tight. When you’re in the shower, you essentially only have enough room to turn in a circle. Be careful swinging your elbows around while showering or brushing your teeth.
Amenities are good. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels are all provided and replaced every day. A/​C is excellent. They also have an elevator, but it’s terribly slow. I’m talking 45 seconds between pushing the button and the elevator doors opening for you slow. At first I thought it wasn’t working. And the ride up and down isn’t much better. Just take the stairs.
The noise can be a problem as well. My room faced 58^th Street and there was construction during the night. My girlfriend found it to be a bit of a problem getting to sleep, but I slept fine. When you’re walking around for hours during the day, it’ll take more than noise to keep you awake.
The best part? No matter when, the front desk will hold your bags until you check in and even after you check out! So no worries about having to walk around the busy streets of NYC wheeling your precious cargo.
We got assigned to Park Savoy via Hotwire, and after reading the reviews, I was a bit wary. But in the end, my experience here was much better than I expected.

It was small, but it was not as bad as other people have said in the reviews. I’ve stayed in really nice hotels. I’ve stayed in crappy Motel 6’s. This was a small NYC hotel, I can’t really compare it to any other. It didn’t have all of the lush furniture like the really nice hotels I’ve stayed at, but who really sits in those nice big chairs, when they’re traveling and have places outside of the hotel room to go to? It was clean, it had AC & a private bathroom connected to the bedroom. The staff were always at the desk, even late at night. I felt very safe. There was a small flat screen on the wall and a nightstand and dresser. It was perfect and just what we needed for our single night in the city. We took the train in from Albany, N.Y. to see a show at Terminal 5 on 14Nov2015. You cannot beat this place for location, it’s near everything! We even walked home from the show. I’d stay here again.

Pros — Price and Location
Cons — Continental Breakfast was only one croissant and one bottled drink. There were dead bugs on the ceiling of the bathroom. There was hair in the shower. The front desk workers were having a really loud profanity laden conversation at 9am in the morning — I’d be embarrassed if my mother was anywhere close by.

I hear the location is great, though I just got here and haven’t ventured out yet. I read many reviews in the taxi and can confirm that everything people have written about the rooms is true… the poor reviews anyway. I haven’t seen rooms like this since the worst motel 6 I stayed in when I hardly had any money. If you want a nice room, don’t stay here!

Not a good option for the price. $ 250. Night. Very small & old rooms. It makes rock bottom hotels look like palaces. The continental breakfast is a white bread roll and a cup of coffee and the advertised hours for it are not real. Supposed to be until 9:30 but the pizza shop next door (The location of the breakfast) had nothing for us at 9:01 AM. The elevator is very old creaky and scary. Basically it looks like a flophouse!

Got a deal on Orbitz, great location! What a nightmare/​Bates Hotel!!! The rooms have NO A/​C, fan or anything to muffle the jackhammers & saws from the construction in the next bldg.
There were no washcloths in the bathroom, the shower alternated between scalding hot & ice cold, the bathroom light didn’t work the next morning and there was no hair dryer.
Can’t forget about the single, 4 person elevator that takes forever. This place is a scary dump. Stay anywhere else!!!

I just checked out today after a three-​night stay. I cannot complain at all. For a basic hotel, it was everything we (my five-​year-​old daughter and I) needed. I felt safe there; the double room was clean and in good repair. I did have an issue with my lamp and the outlet I plugged it into (burning smell). I informed the desk staff, and they sent a maintenance person up right away. They have a locked luggage room where you can leave your bags if you check in or check out early. The desk staff was pretty much all business, but the cleaning staff and maintenance people were very friendly and kind to my daughter. Kind of a European feel to the place. My online deal mentioned breakfast, but I didn’t see any evidence if it and didn’t ask. It is not super-​modern and doesn’t have every amenity found at larger hotels, but that wasn’t a priority for me. They do have linens, shampoo/​soap, towels, and a little wardrobe. The TV has a handful of channels. Simple and inexpensive was what I wanted, and I got that plus a pleasant atmosphere. Oh! And it was so quiet, it was as if we were the only ones in the hotel. There was construction outside which started quite early, but that didn’t bother me. I would stay again.

It was a budget hotel, had the basics. It was neat and clean with private bathroom. The staff was very nice and they do offer luggage storage service.

Well, it looked like an ok place to stay. I’m on a budget, and for the location, it’s was between this and The Da Vinci Hotel. Since Da Vinci is further than where I need to be, Park Savoy won the toss.
The front lobby looks old world. The room very plain, no hair dryer, and the bed is hard. Also I have a view of a courtyard and other rooms. Oh well. Just need the space to put my things, shower, and sleep. I’m here to see the city.

This place may not be all high class and fancy but it is cozy and Sweet. I love that the fact that this is the oldest building on 58 street so there’s history to this place and you can tell as you walk in. If you are coming to New York for the weekend couple days or what have you I highly recommend this place it’s not like you come to New York to stay in your hotel all day you’re going to be out shopping and looking around. You just need a place to rest your feet after all that walking and a roof over your head to sleep. It’s a prime location. Whenever I do decide to come back to New York I am definitely going to stay here the right price for my stay. It was perfect!

Horrendous! This place is like a hostel. I expected a little bit more for $ 195 a night. Grim, depressing, stinky outdated rooms and the old fashioned elevator took forever. In fact on the last day I ended up wheeling my cases down four flights of stairs. The guys on reception barely acknowledge you and the worse thing of all? BED BUGS. I was covered in bites after my first night and unfortunately bought them home with me. Covered now and will probably end up paying a ton of money for a company to come in to get rid of them. The only good thing is the proximity to Central Park. Absolute hellhole. Shower took 10 mins to get hot. Not worth saving a few dollars when you can stay somewhere much better for $ 20-​$ 30 extra. Don’t do it!

Tiny rooms, bed, bathroom. Being on street side it’s loud with traffic and big working trucks.
I do have to give it a little credit for being centrally located near Broadway and Central park!

What can I say, I stayed here because I was desperate to be in midtown Manhattan. I must have picked a bad weekend to travel to NYC because even this place was $ 225 a night and the cheapest option! This is a very dated, tiny little hole in the wall hotel. I have stayed in a couple of places like this before and I always have to laugh when I get there at the fact that these places still exist and can manage to do business.
The elevator has doors, not like regular sliding elevator doors but doors as in with a door knob that you open yourself.
The stairs and hallways are very very narrow, but we had a room with double beds and the size of the actual room is surprisingly large.
There are no built in closets in the room but they do have what seems to be a child-​size wardrobe with an assorted variety of plastic hangers.
The shower took at least 5 minutes of running before decently warm water came out.
I’m not sure about the cleaning service, when I checked in there were several things left behind from previous guests including clothing size stickers (you know, the kind tell what size the jeans are) still folded into the bedding and trash in the bathroom (not in the trashcan) ew.
We did really appreciate the functional A/​C and the mini fridge though, those were nice aspects, and they were able to hold our luggage for a few extra hours on check-​out day.
Overall, I can’t believe I paid $ 225 a night to stay here and I kind of want to cry about that fact. But I guess it’s true, it’s all about location, location, location. Located just blocks from central park, times square and Broadway, you really can’t get better than this.

Dirty noisy little
shithole! Radiator kept making noises all night long, 7 am wake up call by loud construction going on outside the window, shower has a mind of it’s own going from frozen water to steaming hot by itself, and shower stream almost flushed me out by the power of it (being sarcastic here), pillows feel like they’re made of paper, little joke tv that you have to be on eye level with in order to watch it. One star tho for the location only! I guess it balances the inconvenience.

Very standard, cheap hotel. And a great location for a tourist like myself. The rooms come with a mini fridge. The only thing that can kinda become a nuisance is the lack of outlets in the hotel room. I’m in a group of 4 and we’re constantly rotating who charges their phones because there’s very few.

This place is great — when you’re on a budget. Seriously on a budget. It’s perfectly located, close to everything touristy. I’ve stayed there twice, yet to find any bed bugs which is a huge plus!
It has no frills, like space, new furniture and space. But then again, you can get great prices, which is what I’m mostly about on vacation.

I stayed here last year for 4 days with my sister and 2 friends. The room was a decent size, big enough for the 4 of us to have some space and not be tripping over each for 4 days. The location is good and the price is right. The rooms and the hotel itself are clean, which is extremely important to me. Those are the only good points.
We found the staff to be unfriendly and acted as though we were disturbing them when we checked in, had a question, or needed something. There is one elevator in the whole place and it was out of order about 40% of the entire time we were there. When we checked in, we had to walk up 12 flights of stairs in a dark, narrow stairwell (with luggage!) to get to our room. When the elevator was functioning, it was EXTREMELY slow. The remote to our TV was broken, so I called the front desk and asked if they could provide us with another one. The man at the front desk said sure, but an hour later, still no remote. I went down to the desk and got another one, then walked back up 12 flights of stairs just to find out that remote didn’t work either. The shower was tricky. It seemed to randomly get hot and cold without any rhyme or reason. It took me a few times to figure out that when I turned the handle to get hot or cold water, it actually took about 10 minutes to kick in.
In terms of location, we were within walking distance of a lot of tourist attractions… Central Park, Times Square, etc. And it was a decent quiet neighborhood, we all felt very safe walking around there, even late at night. However, everything in that neighborhood closed early, which shocked me for NYC. We went dancing one night and got back to the hotel around 1 AM and we were starving. Walked around for 3 blocks and couldn’t find anything open to get some food (not even a convenience store). The guy at the front desk (who again acted like we were disturbing him while he had his feet up on the desk and was trying to read a magazine) couldn’t tell us anyplace in the area that might be open where we could grab something quick to eat. All we got was an «Everything’s closed» with no eye contact. I was a little surprised, I had never been to NY before and I thought it was supposed to be the city that never sleeps? I guess that neighborhood does, haha.
Overall it was convenient and good for what we needed. It was cheap and in a safe neighborhood, and it was clean. But I probably won’t return, unless my room is on the 2^nd floor and has a working shower.

June 17’2012 to July 1’2012 — continous in Room 814 — in 8^th Floor.
It was not easy to find such a right place for my work. I was working in 7, Times Square, Ny, NY –this is walking distance meaning everyday 24 – 29 minutes appx or sometimes 30 minutes. New york is really crowded. We need to right, sometimes they are really disorganized city and they dont care or people call one of the rude cities!!:)))))))
Anyhow, in this hotel — the manager or owner-​she was very nice and awesome, even though she might look tough or so –very courteous and she talked to me really well –surprising they say!!:)
Mike, Tony, Anton, brian, Claudio did an outstanding job –they are really great. Mike travels extra mile all the time to get me the cab to go for the weekend.
tony got me a good rate over the phone since i was on hold for 20 minutes and their computer was an issue.
Eleveror Leno knows that i was away for the weekend friday –june 22 – 24’2012. She was really quick to let me know did u stayed in 814. She cleans the room really well, She cares, very nice people — in the hotel. Aisa is great as well. Nice, it might be really small and compared to florida or so.

this is in heart of city –close to central park, close to times square, ny
it is heart of downtown, lot of restaurants around-​very reasonable– once you go to the end of the down, you can get cab in no time.
Amazing and good experience

I don’t get why most people say that this place is too small, looks cheap, blahblah. It’s cheap, what do you expect?
Anyway, I was there a few days ago and I can say that I’m very satisfied of the quality of the hotel. We paid $ 100 the night (double bed room), the room wasn’t as small as I expected (cause of all the comments I read before going there). We went shopping, brought back a lot of bags and we were able to keep all the bags in the closet and we would be able to walk around the room even if our luggage was open.
Although, I do have to admit that the first impression wasn’t really good. We arrived a day later and we forgot to call the hotel to tell them about that. We arrived at 11 am and the man in the reception told us kind of rudely to come back at 3pm cause our reservation wasn’t there and that we should’ve called that we were gonna arrive a day after. We were kind of scared that they wouldn’t change our reservation or that they’d make us pay that night but when we went back at 3 pm, the man kindly changed everything and didn’t make us pay for that night. So. perfect!
The rooms were always clean, they’d clean them everyday and put new towels and toilettries (even if we didn’t need new ones).
The elevator was slow, but it doesn’t take 5 mins. I mean. why so mean?
The best part about the hotel is that it’s a street away from Central Park and it has ALOT of subway lines right next to it. Times square is also like 10 mins away (walking distance) and it’s near everything! That’s what I loved the most about the hotel.
So, if you’re not looking for a classy, huge, hotel. Park Savoy will work for you. We just needed a place to stay and to feel safe. I’m definitely gonna stay here again.
