One word. GREAT! That describes Karen’s revolutionary war tour. She tells great stories. She has scoured primary source materials of the history of lower Manhattan. So no matter what your level of interest in the revolutionary war period, your are in for a treat. I can’t wait to go back and go on the Hamilton/​Burr tour. Thanks Karen!

Took my boyfriend on the Revolutionary Era tour and had such a nice day with Karen. She is clearly passionate and very well informed! It was a pleasure to be with her and gave us such a new perspective on New York.
Also, the tour ends at Fraunces Tavern– one of Manhattan’s oldest surviving buildings– and I highly recommend getting a reservation there for after your tour!

This is my favorite tour in all of NYC. I have lived here for 7 years and have probably been on this tour five times. Karen’s wealth of knowledge is amazing. She really brings history alive in a way that you will never find in any book or anywhere on the internet. This is her last summer for public tours so go while you can. You will be blown away. She has researched this period of history in depth through various NYC archives and is passionate about what she does.

My wife and I love to do tours when visiting other cities. This one was my choice because loving American History is my thing. Let me just state, our guide Karen was awesome!
Some guides will look at all their notes to try and inform you of specific sites and just continue on their way. Not Karen. Everything was done as though I was in a history class being taught everything that occurred prior, during and a little after the Revolutionary War. Any questions I asked she immediately was able to answer and it is very evident that Karen does an incredible amount of research for this tour.
The next time I visit it will be for the Civil War tour and can’t wait to be taught about NY’s role during this crucial time in American History.

I went on the Revolutionary War tour of downtown Manhattan. I have been interested in the history of the area for quite a while and decided to be a tourist for the afternoon since I had the day off. Karen was our tour guide and she was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and well spoken with so many stories she had learned from her extensive research. Additionally she was considerate of people who are actually trying to walk by (one of my pet peeves of all the other tours in the area) and was able to speak clearly without needing a megaphone. I will definitely go on one of her other tours and highly recommend this to anyone either visiting or living in New York.

My nephew is a huge Revolutionary War history buff and was planning his first trip to NYC, so I was pretty psyched to find out about the Revolutionary War walking tour this company offers. While there aren’t many reviews here on Unilocal,there were a lot of positive reviews elsewhere, so I went ahead and booked it. Later on I found out I’d gotten the dates of my nephew’s visit wrong, so I had to ask if we could reschedule. Patriot Tours was completely understanding and accommodating about that.
The tour itself was flat out amazing. Our guide Karen really knew her stuff, and was just a cool person too — we had a great side conversation about science fiction authors on top of the history discussion. She’s very talented at storytelling, painting vivid pictures with her descriptions. She was totally willing to answer questions and customized the tour on the fly to better suit the tour group’s interests. It was worth every penny and I plan to go back sometime soon to go on their downtown architecture tour — and I’m not even going to wait till I have a visitor from out of town!
One last thing I want to note is that Patriot Tours is a small, locally-​owned business run by Karen and her husband. Like many businesses in NYC, they were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy because they couldn’t conduct tours for many weeks after the storm. So you can feel good about supporting their business in that way as well.

A highlight of our stay in New York City!
Our guide, Karen, was absolutely phenomenal ~ she has hands-​on experience with all the stops on this historic and fascinating tour, and was very informative regarding the history and all of the amusing details.
We did the tour of a day with rain and a light wind, and although it was quite chilly we were so glad to have done the tour in its entirety ~ Karen kept us entertained with historical and interesting knowledge at every turn.
I highly recommend this for any history buff!
