Had dinner here one evening with some work colleagues. When we arrived they took our coats and issued us claim checks for them. We ordered several appetizers to share, then entrees. I had the spinach salad which is very sparsely adorned with bacon and tiny bits of either pecans or walnuts. I asked the waiter what items on the menu did not have pasta, bread or potatoes — trying to go low carb — so recommended a chicken dish with no potatoes. The chicken was very tender and tasty — the sauce it was served with was yummy as well. We went through two bottles of red wine at dinner. They offer free WiFi — ask for the password. Service was good.

Although I haven’ t eaten here, I had a bad experience with the reservation system. My son, who is coming down from boston to get married in the neighborhood made reservations for 10 of us to meet for dinner the night before… sort of a «rehearsal dinner» the night before the wedding on Saturday. Reservations were in place — all parties notified, etc. 3 days before the event, he got a call that his reservation was cancelled, due to a larger party wanting to come in for dinner. suddenly he was left scrambling for another venue, and had to notify us all about the change rather quickly. Although I suppose I understand this from a «business decision» point of view… I think it’s bad form for a restaurant to pull the plug on a reservation at the last minute because a bigger party came along.

Dined here as a party of 4 with a reservation. The restaurant is a family venture that has been there for 65 years! That kind of staying power speaks volumes, especially in today’s restaurant industry. The atmosphere was friendly and had a nice, rustic, Italian family feel to it– exposed brick, dimly lit, dark woods w/some pops of color from the paintings on the wall. There were a few outdoor tables available. Service was very good and staff was polite. The menu had a decent variety of pastas, fish, chicken, etc and all of our dishes were adequate proportions and on point taste-wise! I would recommend this spot to friends…

Ok so I ordered delivery which with Italian food is hit or miss. But the eggplant parm was meaty(no, not with actual meat) and firmly stacked and a beautiful portion. Sauce was screaming fresh tomato and garnished, yes garnished in my delivery plate. Ricotta cheese and touch of parm was a great balance and not heavily cheesed up with mozzarella which can make it messy. Nope, these guys did it right. And the portion was healthy too. At first I didn’t think I’d finish it all but once you dive in, it’s over. Added a side of garlic toast which is crustini style and great for plowing up the extra sauce. Hit or miss??? Nah, hit all the way. Can’t wait to actually go and eat in person. This is New York Italian

Fabulous as usual! Made our annual visit on a trip up from Florida. Been going since I was a child and my Grandparents used to take me when I lived in New York. Baked clams and fried zucchini are always favorites at our table.

Ate here with a large group of family friends. Great environment for that since it’s an Italian family spot. The owner took the time to talk to us throughout our meal, but the waiters seemed rushed. Our table was a little crunched against the front patio, making it a little inconvenient for dishes that were in between the pushed-together tables. We split almost all of the appetizers the menu had to offer-all of these tasted extremely fresh and authentic. Got the orecchiette with sausage as an entrée and it was tasty and very filling, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I love this place. I can not think of a single bad thing to say about it. The food is not the only amazing part, the service is through the roof. It is like going to an old school Italian restaurant. Better it is like eating at an Italian friends house, truly I felt like I was at my friends house. I’ll be back.

Wanted to like this place but seriously 45 minutes for basic dishes(at 5:30pm in a Friday night) is ridiculous. Food was okay but not amazing. Definitely not returning. We were the first three and had to wait longer than people who arrived 15 – 30 minutes after we arrived & we ordered as soon as we arrived…

Was in the neighborhood and craving Italian, and stumbled upon this gem. There was was definitely an older crowd, but somehow found this comforting. The staff were outgoing and friendly and the food was delicious. I had the minestrone and appetizer portion of the baked ziti and meatballs, which was big enough for me to still take some home. My friend also really enjoyed the minestrone and was very pleased with her gnocchi. Will def be back soon!

WORST dining experience I’ve ever had. Let me rephrase… WORST service I’ve ever had(because I left before ordering). My girlfriend and I were excited to try this place out. After sitting down, it took the wait staff and manger(white hair) over a half hour to pay us any attention and serve us one drink. Which they got incorrect. There were only three other parties there in this small space, none who were receiving any quality service. The waitstaff just seemed so confused and the manager just stood by the bar and did nothing to help. We saw a couple(who was there for dinner) leave after one drink complaining how long it was taking to be served. They left rolling their eyes saying«unbelievable!». We followed suit 15 minutes later because it was truly unbelievable. After explaining to the manager that we were leaving and that the service was slow and sub par, he was RUDE and non compassionate. He acknowledged we were there for a half hour and felt that was normal to first be attended to(keep in mind this place is super small and not busy at all). We had stopped looking at our menus within 5 minutes of sitting. He also charged me $ 30 for two drinks… which took a half hour to get, were in correct, and we had to track down the busboy to get them. Somehow the manager implied we were in the wrong, and when we left he was aggressively pushing things around on the bar in anger like a child. What a joke. Such a disappointment and worst dining experience in my many years of living in NY. AVOIDATALLCOSTS. When we left, the table next to us acknowledged we were doing the right thing. They were there 45 minutes and had first gotten their wine and had yet the chance to put in an order. Management and waitstaff are completely INCOMPETENT. Too many good restaurants in NYC and even Irving Place to literally waste time at this place. I dont care how good the food may be here– its all about the full dining experience. I walked two blocks down the road to Ichabod’s and had a fantastic dining experience. Even one of Ichabod’s owners came over and made a point to introduce himself and offer us a drink on him in the future. Now, that’s customer service.

There is nothing this gramercy restaurant wouldn’t do to accomate their patrons. Best kale Caesar salad in the city-there is nothing like Tuscan kale. It can be busy with neighborhood regulars but I always feel like family when I go there.

Nice atmosphere. Spagetti carbonara was one of the best I ever had. Pasta cooked just right. Pollo francese was also very good but should come with some pasta, was not filling enough on its own.

Our family walked into Paul & Jimmy’s Friday night, looking for an inexpensive, wheelchair-Accessable Italian place near our hotel on Union Square. We tried Tommy Lasagna on 18th, which wasn’t Accessable, but then we saw another restaurant nearby that might work for us. It turned out to be Paul & Jimmy’s, and it was perfect for us: low noise level, great service, the best lasagna we’ve ever had, and at a reasonable price for Gramercy Park. We highly recommend this for couple or family dining.

Was there for lunch and I had a delicious pasta! It was so good I’m mad I just went there yesterday, when I have been working a block away from there for the past 7 months. Loooove it! The service was wonderful and fast. The drinks awesome, the ambience very elegant and warm. Dying to go back.

I am italian on both sides, grew up with linguine & clams as a staple meal. I know my italian food. This place hits the ball out of the park with every dish I’ve tried. My favorite dishs so far are Frutta di Marre and Zuppa di Pesce. All the seafood is perfectly cooked, which is not easy! The décor is perfect, nice dining room in the back, nice bar in the front with exposed brick, nice seating area out front, the front of the restaurant opens up when its nice out, its perfect! The owner and all the waiters are very nice. This is a great place to take your family when they are in town. They place deserves better reviews, I’m not sure why there are so many mixed reviews.

My in-laws heard of this local italian restaurant through family friends and it was a great place to go with family. The average age was probably like 50s-60s for a Saturday evening dinner. So again, it is a really good place to take families with kids. They are old school Italian with the owner or someone like that greeting you upon arrival. Nice bar in front and medium size restaurant with Italian scenery painted on the walls. Exposed brick. Dining tables had«grandma» style chairs at each table. Felt like dinner at an Italian grandparents house. The service was very good. Food was good, nothing out of this world. I like the fact they had GLUTENFREE spaghetti and penne. I had gluten free spaghetti primavera with garlic and olive oil. It was yummy and cozy and hit the spot. Wasn’t a big fan of the red sauce. The appetizers were so-so. The bread they put on the table and fresh bruschetta looked and my husband told me was amazing. Definitely a good neighborhood find for family dinner.

A slimmed down and up-to-date menu has breathed new life into this Gramercy classic. Some context, I’ve been going to this restaurant for years. Big events, the family all meets at Paul & Jimmy’s. It’s always been this way for me. The service and ambiance has always been great. Old school fine dining service. Any request you make they will grant. They make people feel like a regular. It’s someone’s birthday? they whole restaurant sings along. Many laughs are had at Paul & Jimmy’s. I’ve eaten here literally dozens of times over at least a decade. The food was never bad but the menu had not aged well. The old menu was the size of the Ten commandments. And it was from the same era. But good news everyone, now there’s a one side of one page menu and an even smaller menu for the bar with new dishes such as meatballs on garlic toast(!), prosciutto over balsamic arugula, brussel sprouts, fried cauliflower; all fresh and delicious. Recently I enjoyed my minestrone soup, it had more of a potato base rather than the traditionally tomato dominated affair and was a great way to start the meal. Pasta was fresh, now they offer wheat and gluten-free substitutes. Dessert was also a highlight. Fresh strawberries and cream in a bowl. Everyone seemed to love the Tartufo, vanilla and chocolate ice cream with cherry and almonds, covered in a dark chocolate ganache. Really glad that the business is making these changes to get with the modern era. It was a smart move. Keep it up! It will keep this a viable and thriving business in the years to come.

Terrible service and sub par food. I guess I should have come here with low expectations. As a friend put it, if a restaurant has availability for 14 people last minute on a Saturday night, it’s probably not very good. He was right. Everything was just so disappointing, from the stale bread that comes with the table to the not fully cooked through gnocchi. Our waiter either did not speak English or was purposefully rude, we couldn’t figure out which. He would take forever to bring menus and have rude responses when we asked him questions. When my husband and I said we’ll share a pre-fixe dinner since we weren’t too hungry, he rolled his eyes. When it was time for dessert I looked at the dessert menu which was handed to my friend. I asked the waiter which of these desserts I could order as part of the pre-fixe and he rudely stated that that menu was not for me and that I should hand it back to my friend, he would bring my pre-fixe menu later. Umm okay. When we were passing the bottle of wine, he grabbed it out of our hands to bring it to the other side. Unfortunately when you have that many people in a group, it’s difficult to leave a smaller tip to indicate your dissatisfaction with the service as it would take even longer to calculate than it already does, so we still gave a full 20%. Luckily Unilocal lets me have the last say.
