First time I went, I was planing to buy 2 glasses, but finally it was more expensive than I expected, so I keep only one. The sales guy seemed annoyed by my last decision. When I received my glasses, I discovered they gave me used glasses (probably from the showroom) and also they gave me a dirty old case. I asked for a new one and also I called later to ask for a new frames because this one it was visible with signs of use, they say yes, but nobody apologized.
When I went to pick up the second glasses — theoretically new -, the guy that assisted me the first time ignored me. I saw the new glasses, in the same conditions, used. Also, I just discover these glasses were for men, instead for woman. Pin eyeglasses tangles with my hair, because these glasses are for men. Also, customer service are not the best. 1 star for a nice girl, that it was the only one she was nice in my last visit. Several months later, these glasses give me headaches, terrible experience. I am so regretted to have done business in this place. Never again.
PS: Suspicious 5 stars review constantly, I am pretty sure is the staff of this place.

Pretty cool people. Happy with my glasses.
Charged my card twice and then nonchalantly handed me the voided receipt as if that happens all the time which kind of pissed me off.
When you make a 450 $ mistake… Call me old fashioned, but I expect an apology. The credit didn’t show up for another 2 days so it’s stressful to deal with this kind of error.

They are great! Customer service is amazing. Reuben rocks! I got my first pair of glasses 2 years ago. I had no idea what frames would work for my face… He did 2 years later, he didn’t disappoint and picked out some awesome frames… Can’t wait to pick them up today! Thanks Reuben!!!

I have been going to Pildes for years and the service is impeccable as well as the selection of frames. Maria is wonderful and extremely helpful and took her time helping me pick out my new set of frames. Jay is also very knowledgeable and I highly recommend Pildes for all your glasses and contact needs.

Have been a Pildes customer for decades. Great selection of frames, but most importantly, their customer service is amazing. They always go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. They keep track of my insurance, my various contact/​glasses needs (progressives, multivision, reading glasses etc!) and help to find the lowest price with my insurance coverage. I admit that I flirted with another place [WParker] but their inexpensive frames didnt make up for errors with my lenses. I have never been anything but perfectly satisfied with high quality lenses and excellent advise and service.

I like this place, and highly recommend it. They were very patient with my contact fittings. I tried a few until I got the right pair. The eye doctor is very friendly and knowledgeable. He helped me with an eye condition that had me baffled, and gave me a solution that was so simple and works!

Wide selection of regular and designer frames including mid range designers like Kate Spade or Tory Burch. The sales people were extremely patient and friendly. However I specifically said I did not like a particular shape, and yet the sales person kept bringing me the same shape over and over again! It completely baffled me as after every pair I said I don’t like this shape. Perhaps they have a very limited inventory of the shape that I did like, but then tell me that instead of wasting my time by trying on every pair of glasses in the store knowing that I won’t like the shape.

This was an excellent experience. Eye doctor was very friendly and efficient. I was in and out for a contact lens exam in less than 20 minutes. I am new to the city and am glad to have found Pildes Optical. Highly recommended.

The Eye D“r was excellent, The stuff service was very professional, they took their time to check my options with my insurance to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Jean spent hours with me helping me choose the right pair. He was very helpful, and very patient.

I bought a set of expensive glasses here. It turned out to be a very bad design which almost immediately began to collect unsightly grime between the lenses and the frame. I took them in to be cleaned, and the technician broke both sides. But they replaced the frames. The second time I brought them in, they told me the 1-​year warranty was expired and the cleaning would be at my risk. I refused and bought a new pair of glasses fro another vendor.

Oooof… I feel like I’m being nice when giving them 3 stars but what saves them is their optometrist and the manager. Two women work there — one has NO IDEA how to do math and almost charged me an additional $ 200 because she forgot to deduct what my Health Insurance covers. Another girl was supposed to send my glasses out and when I had yet to receive them after a week, I called and she gave ME an attitude about it! The manager thankfully found them and called me back and assured me they’d be messengered same day (I literally live 10 blocks from them!). Bad service but at least they’ve accommodated. Just wish they got it right from the beginning of each transaction.

I got glasses today at Pildes after having a dreadfully negative experience at Cohens Fashion Optical on 177 East 86^th Street a few days ago. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau and to my insurance. My complaint is being investigated.
On the other hand, Pildes was exemplary in terms of staff and service. Thanks especially Maria and Reuben. Whereas Cohen Fashion Optical tried to trick me by misstating my insurance benefits in order to make more money. Pildes was honest and straightforward and helpful in finding glasses within my budget since I have a retina problem in one of my eyes that is under treatment and I will have to change the prescription in a few months. I recommend Pildes highly.

The only reason they are receiving two stars is because the optometrist was excellent. She did a through exam, answered all of my questions and was professional throughout.
If I could give zero stars for the customer service, I would. The sales people were extremely rude. The place was busy and they seemed flustered, but before I could even open my mouth I was being reprimanded by the gentleman helping me that I should have my insurance information on file beforehand, when in fact I had called not once but twice and made sure they had my insurance. He initially assumed I had no insurance… He only started acting nice after I pointed out that I had and offering to come back when they were actually ready for my appointment. After my exam, I aimlessly waited around for someone to come and order my contacts.
Update: after this review, I received a call from the manager expressing his apologies. Few places will follow up after a Unilocal review and I was impressed. Thank you for the follow up and I appreciate your time and concern. Perhaps I just came in at a very busy time. Thanks!

I have been coming here since VIM was on the corner of 72^nd (Old guard, son.) They always go above and beyond and today was no different. Shoutout to J for giving me an awesome hook up during an emergency!

The service and experience is the best in this location. Not only did they take me in the moment, Dr. Hyde suggested that I wear a pair of contacts with my new prescription to see if they are the right ones for me ! What a perfect suggestion and care this Dr has shown and demonstrated today. He was kind and patient and gave me a thorough examination, again without an appointment. Thank you.
And than their is Maria, what a wonderful team member you have working for you. She knew I had a dilemma (lost one contact this morning and it was blurry in that eye). She went up and beyond to see that I was attended too and that she can get me a visit with the doctor. She called my place of business and told me to come on over! When I arrived she was nothing but the best in her attentiveness, professionalism, knowledge and just a real personal concern. My new experience made me feel like I have been a patient of theirs for years! Thanks Maria, seriously for making me feel so welcomed. Thanks to the young lady that started it all when I first walked in (greeted within 1 minute) .
I will need a nice plair of glasses and I totally trust Maria and Dr. Hyde to help me make that important decision.

Terrible service.
I give it a two because the first lady who helped me pick out glasses was amazing. She was nice and patient. If it wasn’t for her, I’d give this place a 1 star.
First of all, the doctor who’s a guy was just plain rude the entire time of my appointment. Complaining that I couldn’t hold my eye in front of the light. I wanted to tell him, let me shine a light in your eye and see how long you can stare at it. He tells me my eyes are inflamed and that I need prescribed eye drops for them. Also says, «they’ll be ready, just go pick them up.» I get to the Duane Reade and it was closed. Yeah, I know my fault. The next day I took the day off to go get my medicine and guess what. NOT EVEN ORDERED YET. Now let me tell you, it takes 40 minutes on a train to get to the Duane Reade so you can see that I hate traveling from home to get all the way over there and find out it’s not even there ! Strike 2 Pildes Doctor for telling me they were ready.
NEXT DAY, I come in again to pick it up after work and GUESS WHAT! The medicine is $ 200 with insurance! Why the hell are these eye drops $ 200 that makes no sense. Even the pharmacy tech at Duane Reade said I didn’t even need them, that my eyes will heal themselves since they’re only inflamed and not infected.
Strike 3, the contacts Pildes gave me are the worst prescription ever. I can barely see through these contacts, I can probably see better if I didn’t even have them on.
Terrible doctors that have no idea how to give a proper prescription. I’m going to a different doctor.
Oh and the lady who answers the phone gets on my nerves. I had to repeat and spell out my first and last name 3 – 4 times. Like lady come on.

Came in here with high hopes. Selection is pretty good unless you’re interested in designer frames ie Burberry, Prada, etc in which case there is a VERY limited selection. Salespeople are not pushy, but I have to comment on the prices. I found a pair of glasses I liked that were marked at 259 for the frames. There were multiple similar styles from this brand all marked at $ 259. Being that I had never heard of the brand before, I felt compelled to check the pricing on the internet. I found multiple reputable online vision retailers selling the same frames (same model number and everything) from prices ranging from 99 – 129. That’s a significant difference!
I understand this is a brick and mortar store instead of an online retailer, but imagine my shock when I went to another small optical store and found a nearly identical pair from the same brand tagged at $ 159! Bottom line — do some research on the frames and comparable prices before buying here. I didn’t find the prices to be competitive whatsoever.

Made an appointment for an eye exam. Went in not really knowing my current prescription. The staff were very nice, the store is modern and beautiful. The eye doctor was very professional and efficient. I was in and out of there in under 25 minutes.
I only wish they had a better selection of glasses (I love Tiffany frames, which they do not carry). They have a best price guarantee on contact lenses, so I just bought mine there, rather than ordering online, which I used to do. They emailed me my prescriptions so I can take elsewhere for Tiffany glasses.
Will return next year.

I was in a bind after looking my glasses on metro north. I called at 500 on a Friday and they said they do same day glasses and the optician was in until 6pm. I walked into their upper west side location and was helped within a minute of walking in by Jay. He pointed me to the cheapest frames, marked down from 199 to 135 complete with lenses. He gave me good advice on the two frames I was choosing between. The glasses were ready in less than 35 minutes. He even took the time to get them adjusted perfectly for my face. Would DEFINITELY buy glasses from here again.

This place is the best! Top notch service by people who really care about their customers. You’re in great hands from the time you get your eyes examined until you walk out with your glasses. Unlike other eyeglass stores in the city, there’s no pushy salespeople. Everyone here is super professional. They clearly go over every option for lenses, coatings, frames, etc. and — believe it or not — have your best interests in mind. And their lab does great work. I’ve had experiences with other places where the lenses aren’t quite right and have to be redone. But these people are real pros.
I will never go to another eyeglass store and I’m more than happy to dump my old optometrist who always kept me waiting forty-​five minutes after my appointment time. No matter where you live in the city, you’d be doing yourself a favor by going to these guys. They take care of you quickly, professionally, and their prices on frames and lenses are amazingly reasonable. The entire staff is great, especially Jay.
