Planet Fitness – Manhattan – 27th St.

This gym is ok. As many say «you get what you pay for». I come here due to convenience although I really wish they had heavier weights, a real bench press and a squat rack. I think the whole pizza/​bagel/​tootsie roll stuff is stupid. It’s supposed to be a place for people to better their health. Not make it worse. One bad experience I had was with a female manager who’s name I can’t remember, I had brought my jump rope to use because I don’t like the treadmill, elliptical or bike for a warmup. So I found a spot in the gym where I know nobody would come near me. She approaches me telling me I can’t jump rope. When I ask why she says «Oh it’s a liability». What type of explanation is that? The only reason I accepted that was because I just wanted to finish my workout and didn’t want to make a scene. She was very unprofessional in her approach. That is no reasoning. Thankfully, it looks like she’s been removed because I haven’t seen her in a while.

I was in the club on May 15^th at 1:08pm and handed them a note from Doctor’s note to be cancelled out. It was never done. I was charged the annual fee yesterday and called the club to speak with manager and was told he would return the call immediately. It never happened. I called today to speak to the manager and was told by Sade, and I quote «we dont know when he come in» «He sometimes work until 12 or 1, we dont know» Then she hungup on me. I called back and spoke with Reshaun and I asked him for the corporate number and he told that they dont have that information. He then put me on hold for 10 minutes to «clear the line» the 4 times I have been to that gym the staff never interacts with the guest, they just stand there while people check in themselves.

Great cheap affordable gym for people that don’t have a great amount of income! Proper & well worked equipment just like other gyms, all work the same & help lose, build & strengthen weight, muscles & stamina the same as other gyms. Also the customers are very respectful, kind, lenient & helpful. Last but not least they also have free personal training early in the day not sure the exact time & a wonderful massage chair! Gym is open 24hours people except weekends

Conveniently nestled between 6^th and 7^th. Perfect for any midtowner yearning for a complete and satisfying workout. You will find many a regular visiting this locale, which adds familiarity to the establishment. Locker rooms are well maintained by staff and generally very clean. Make sure to stop in on free pizza day and take advantage of membership perks. Second floor is a fully stocked playground of well designed machines expertly layed out for maximum efficacy. First floor is also great but be wary of bench press and massage chair hogs who frequent the establishment. All in all a pleasant place to workout.

Came here almost 4 days a week and enjoyed the simple friendly nice stuff and facilities. I joined here by last September, since it’s very close to the place I worked. It’s already became a daily routine to visit here in the morning. Nice people, nice facilities, nice price! While if they could add some decline bench I may offer them 10 stars!!!

It’s a kinda small space for a gym but they make a decent attempt at maximizing the space use. Staff is friendly and pretty. The locker space is actually the largest I’ve seen for a Planet Fitness. And there’s a 99ct Pizza Place next door so feel free to grab a slice and then do 30 minutes on the eliptical.

So far, this is my least favorite location. I didn’t have a problem with anyone at the gym nor did I have a problem with the staff. Staff was friendly and everyone seemed friendly. I just don’t like the way this gym is laid out. To start off, the location is quite small and there are treadmills EVERYWHERE. Every section I go to whether it be weights or cardio, there’s just a couple treadmill machines in every corner I go. It makes it look so disorganized. All the equipment and machines were so close to each other it made me feel claustrophobic almost. I bumped into a guy’s bench press machine next to the one I was using while trying to change the weights. I feel like the space given for this Planet Fitness was just a bit small and it’s like trying to fit big people into a tiny room. I didn’t feel very comfortable being there. Plus, the locker rooms (the women’s locker room at least) was TOO WARM! Entering the locker room to change into workout clothes BEFORE I even worked out, I was already sweating. In fact, I felt like the entire gym was kinda warm. I like the gym to be a little bit cool, not cold, so that I won’t have to suffer from sweat that already exists from working out. Bigger space and cooler environment is definitely and highly suggested!

Gets the job done. I wish they had water on the first floor. Free tootsie rolls.
Update: I’ve been going here for months now and can’t imagine paying more for another gym. PF makes me happy and meets all my workout needs.

If you want a place to have inexpensive access to machines without a lot of bells and whistles, you’ve come to the right spot. The staff is friendly enough, and will greet you upon arrival, and then will pretty much just leave you alone. IMO, that’s just what I want.
The best thing about this place is how you can come in the post-​work rush hour and still never wait for a machine. Ample lockers to be had down in the basement locker rooms as well. They’ve kept it impressibly clean in here after several years in business, too.
Their mantra of a «judgment free zone» is pretty accurate, as you’ll encounter all types in here and never feel out of place. And any gym that doles out pizza and bagels on a monthly basis doesn’t have much room to talk about judgment anyway. (But is clearly a smart way to make sure people keep having a need to come back?)
The membership rates are just as good as they seem. Been a member for years and the $ 10/​month has yet to ever be raised.

I have said it and I will say it again: Planet fitness and other low cost gyms don’t work well in big cities. Planet fitness is great in the suburbs. In the city you end up with the homeless guy who just wants to cone to shower or the mechanic/​painter who comes in after a long day to shower (not that there is anything wrong with that. But it’s just not good for the clientelle when this happens. Go home, change, then come to the gym). This location is disgusting. They do not clean it well. Showers are disgusting. Bathrooms are disgusting. The only good thing about it is that it’s open 24 hours.
Please avoid unless you really have to.

If you want results, go to Planet Fitness. This is a serious gym for serious lifters.
Here’s my story: I was a scrawny, weak little s*** and couldn’t lift a leaf to save my life. I tried all kinds of expensive gyms for months, but I never made any progress. After going to Planet Fitness for just one month, I look great, I feel great, I’m a renewed person and I’m a lean mean fighting machine. Thanks to the body I got from Planet Fitness, I was able to get any girl I wanted.
At $ 10 a month it’s an amazing deal. The staff are extremely nice, environment is very motivational (everyone there is buff), there are plenty of weights, the locker room is very nice. The free food — Tootsie Rolls, pizza day, and bagel day — was integral in helping me bulk up and put on muscle weight.
Do NOT waste your money on other gyms. Planet Fitness is simply the best.

This pf is disgusting! Full of weirdos. The stuff is rude. My jacket was stolen from the locker room, and the receptionists found it funny. I do not recommend you to visit this franchise.

I only come here with my friend who is recovering from surgery and I’m helping him get back into fitness, I’m a CPT. The gym has a high volume of traffic and I feel like I can never get in on weights or smith machines. Plus it is a Planet Fitness after all. Not the cleanest gym either but I guess it’s a «you get what you pay for» gym.

This is fitness for people who are much more cardio side. If you’re looking for a lot of weights for a lot of machines for strength you’re out of luck. However the cost is absolutely great for the average person trying to loose weight. Its clean and all the equipment is working

Strange women in the locker rooms for an oddly long period of time. I’ve seen an older medium skin toned Asian woman with past the shoulder length hair who brings drinks, a large suitcase or 3 or more bags into the locker room and mumbles to herself the entire time. I think she has turrets or mental health issues. One time, she got what I hope to be fruit punch all over the floors. I don’t doubt it if there are people without showers at home showering here. It has a transient feel in the locker room and less A/​C. Wish it was cleaner and they did away with the transient folks and men who grunts out loud on the 2^nd Floor when they lift. Otherwise, I like this gym.

You get what you pay for — but honestly, for the price, any PF is a pretty great value. I come here after work sometimes and although it isn’t perfect (the circuit training area is almost always claimed by tattoo-​sporting toughs for non-​circuit-​training activities) and it isn’t spotless, it’s extremely convenient and the showers are hot. What more do you want for $ 10/​month?

The clientele isn’t the best and can be sketchy at times. I’ve gotten harassed here before on two different occasions, which is why I stopped going to this location. Equipment is always dirty and some of the weight machines are even broken ahem leg press ahem. Locker rooms are abysmal and disgusting. Always packed after 5pm on weekdays, so if you want a locker, try going another time.
Hate, hate, hate it here. I now go to the wall at. Location, but may have to switch gyms due to work changes.

Opposite to some of the other negative reviews, I had a rather good experience here and would love to return (and most likely will!)
I did NOT come here at peak hour (Momma didn’t raise no fool!) so machine and locker access was a breeze. They have some large lockers about 5′ high and others that are half that, stacked on top of one another. If you don’t have a million things, try to take the smaller lockers to save it for people like me who work outside and often carry 1) backpack, 2) work bag, c) gym bag. Thanks!
The showers were clean, machines were clean and I did not have to wait for anything which was nice. The patrons were all very nice, and would politely ask if they could join reps on machines if they wanted to. There are multiple floors, bottom is for lockers, middle I think was cardio and top for weights.
All in all, a nice location but I would probably avoid a gym in such a busy area like this during peak hours.

I’ve been told by a fellow co-​worker that Planet Fitness is the «fat people» gym, and I should go elsewhere. If I wasn’t packing a few extra pounds, where would you like me to go? Why do I need to look glamorous for the gym?
No, I like Planet Fitness just fine!
The lockers on the first floor are under 24hr surveillance, which is where I keep my things, or there are additional lockers in the men and womens lockers downstairs.
One star removed? There isn’t enough room to really stretch before and after your workout, which kinda sucks; I always end up stretching by the stairwell where there are signs that clearly tell you not to — oh well!
There’s always plenty of machines open, and the 30 minute express station has become a new discovery for me and the muscles I have yet to work.
Totally worth it for $ 10 a month if you stick to just one home location.

So after having come here for almost 6 months, I’ve found my self getting more frustrated with this place.
Again, as I’ve previously mentioned, this is not a real ‘gym’ as much as it is a cardio health club.
I workout with a coworker and I have been told that I wasn’t allowed to train people; my issue is quite simply, I could understand if maybe I had multiple «clients» or what not, but I have the same workout buddies day in and day out – am I not allowed to workout with people? or do they have to be the same sex as me? I found myself really irked by it, but I wasn’t going to argue with the guy because his arrogant, rude tone said it all. As I put some stuff away and moved to a different station.
Secondly, getting creative also seems to get you in trouble as I’ve been told I wasn’t allowed to do certain workouts because «they’re not allowed». I could understand if it was olympic lifting type stuff, and they don’t want people getting hurt or intimidated, but I was in a corner doing cardio.
Needless to say once my membership is up, me and my friends will be going to a competitor as this place is not for me.
For beginners or cardio-​centric people, this is still a viable option.
