This review is only for eyebrow threading: Great fast service and its cheaper than most places I’ve seen. Only once this elderly woman there did my eyebrows and pulled too much and gave me a scratch but overall I usually have sexy eyebrows when I go to this place and i’m in and out in less than 10 mins. They have a card that once you get 10 eyebrow threads then you get one for free. Only 6 bucks for this service. Most places charge more.

Stay away workers are not cert trained they will uneven your eyebrows and then say sorry, humm sorry wont bring back my eyebrows Now you stuck waiting at least a month to grow it back. Is always new people and they do not understand english nor speak they always offering tinting eyebrows even you dont clearly need it. I started thinking they skimming to mess up eyebrows so you can go back and do tinting for more business and make money, well I can never go back I work near bu and I spread the word at work they planned not to go back either places like this one need to get their shtttt together and stop taking peoples money at their own suffering expense mess up eyebrows is not a ooppss am sorry solution it is not fare and they certaintly do not care about you!!! Be careful Be aware take a picture of your brows right before you sit do that every where you go and they know you mean business. First off if you have a Groupon for A Brazilian wax or any service from this place, I suggest you get your money back and here’s why:
There’s a $ 4 tax for using a Groupon (which Groupon confirmed is bogus and not listed anywhere on the fine print). Then the kicker of all kickers, there’s an additional charge of $ 5 if there is a lot of hair. My question was what constitutes as a lot of hair and am I supposed to show you my vaginal area before you can redeem the Groupon!!! She replied that she’s done this many times so she’s knows what a lot of hair is but what’s to say once my pants are down she won’t feel like it’s a lot. I felt like I was being ripped off. Throughout the five minute interaction she asked me two different times if I had a membership and did I want one. Not only did I get a refund from Groupon but I also suggested that Groupon remove them off the website for having a misleading coupon. Groupon only asks
that you tip them at the regular price of the service they do not ask for usage tax like this woman was going to try and charge me. She said it was listed under «restrictions apply» but as I read through the fine print with the Groupon representative, we couldn’t find the $ 4 tax or the $ 5 long/​thick vaginal hair clause either. Stay away from this business!!!

I’ll give them two stars because the girls ARE very friendly polite and do a great job.
Now for the con. They’re extremely unsanitary, I mean they double dip the stick continuously so they must do this with every customer AKA spreading of skin disease highly likely.
They don’t use use gloves. That’s right so if they’re doing your private area be prepared finger to privates contact.
The wax room in the back is very dirty and messy.
You do get a bang for your buck however at the cost of all I mentioned above.
I prefer to pay more but know everything is on point.

Unilocal would not allow me post a review without at least giving them a star… just so you know I wouldn’t even do that.
I was treated very poorly and denied of services. I purchased a groupon for Brazilian wax at Praba located at 1794 3^rd Ave, Ground Fl NY NY 10 029. This happened on 6÷23÷2015 at approximately 5:00pm and the following occurred:
I was greeted by two women sitting down. I greeted them and said I have a groupon for a Brazilian which I purchased on groupon. The very minute I said that, the two ladies immediately began to speak their language as I stood there waiting to proceed for the next step. After what seemed to be back and forth dialogue, again in their language, they refused to see me because of the groupon. After repeating the fact that I have never had a problem using a groupon and that I In fact called last night and this morning and was reassured that 1. I can use groupon and 2. I can present the voucher on my phone and I would be taken care of «no problem.»
While at the place, these two ladies who refused to provide their names when I first asked, also refused to acknowledge the groupon conversing back and forth in their language. They then made me take a screen shot of the groupon and text to (I omitted the number I was told to text). When asked who’s number this was I was ignored and again they continued to dialogue in their language without any explanation or consideration of me just there.
When asked for their names again, they refused to give to me and started speaking in their language as they’ve done throughout this exchange. After much discussion amongst them two they agreed on these two names «Laila and suma.»
They still refused to see me. When asked to speak with their manager I was ignored. At this point I sat down and waited for some type of response. They continued to dialogue amongst themselves. I then proceeded to get up and took a picture of the license. They then got off their seats and continued to dialogue amongst themselves. Another customer came in and they rushed to service this person. I walked out with no service done, no explanation and a really disturbing experience.
I should have taken the Unilocal reviews seriously and saved my $ and time. I chose this due to its proximity to my job and daughter’s school. I’ve never had this experience and I’ve been many places. Stay away if you can. There are other deals at much better places.

I should have listened to the other reviewers, and stayed away. This place is awful, it’s very small and frankly looks dirty. Never again!

where do I begin?! this place is filthy. they continually try & push more services on you. one of the women told me I needed to get my eyebrows done when I came in just for a brazilian wax. She had HORRENDOUS acne and peeling skin all over her face but I didnt say anything. Note to girl: keep your mouth shut. especially when you have a completely empty salon. the wax took foooorever. & the wax specialist kept blowing on the wax & my coochie which is DISGUSTING. she also dropped hot wax on my leg & i was STILL sticky all over when she was done. when she finished she goes «there is still some hair but thats ok.» ummm no its NOT. i paid for a brazilian so EVERYTHING should be gone. also they charge u 4 dollars tax which is bullshit & they say if ur hair is to long & they trim it they will also charge u more money. what in the world?! if anything the longer the better for brazilian waxing. i left a 4 dollar tip out of politeness but that place is gross & breaks so many code laws that I actually want to report

This place is definitely no frills… in fact, it may seem dirty, but I don’t really need the place to look nice if the service is good. I called at 5:30pm and scheduled a wax appointment for 6:30pm on the same day which rocked. The lady was super nice and professional. Again, no frills, the door to the wax room was a broken sliding door which I didn’t mind, but I could see how people wouldn’t like that. The wax was great, it was not that painful and she plucked the extra hairs she missed. The reason I won’t give it 5 stars was because of the pricing. I paid $ 19 for a groupon. When I got there, she charged me $ 4 for tax and I have no idea where that number came from. Then in the wax room, she suggested I use chocolate wax which was an extra $ 5 dollars. I had only $ 3 cash left to give her a tip which I didn’t really feel that bad about after all the extra charges. Despite paying $ 12 extra than I had planned, it was a good experience.

I’ve learned my lesson — there are some things you should just pay for, and all the deals in the world (Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.) don’t make up enough in discounts for quality of service. I was at Praba just about an hour ago and I am still uncomfortably sticky.
First off, calling to make an appointment was the most confusing thing. If I call and ask you if you have an appointment available within the next four days (I called yesterday), I am generally asking — and I specified this when I realized how confused the woman was — «When are you free within this time frame?» Instead, she had proceeded to tell me a random assortment of times they were booked, and prompted me to request a time. Nearly every time I did, she said they were booked. Eventually we settled on 12:30 p.m. today, so I showed up and there were two women in the waiting area, both of whom left before I was even led into the room. That was very quick, so no complaints. But with only me there, she forgot I had asked for a full leg sugaring (stated on the phone, and announced when I walked in and when she walked in the room) and was perplexed that I hadn’t taken off my underwear when I had my ape legs on display and asked, aloud, how a FULL-​LEG sugaring is different from regular waxing. I admit this was a trick question — I didn’t see any separate sugaring supplies.
I had bought a LivingSocial deal for a full-​leg sugaring service. Sugaring should be a completely different service from waxing, except a lot of places just use «sugar wax» and call it a day, like they did here. I’m disappointed, and was in great deal more discomfort than I was expecting, especially since the sign in the salon says sugaring and chocolating (which is chocolate wax) will be much less pain than their regular wax option… except their regular wax option is the same thing as the «sugaring.»
Anyway, following my trick question, she tells then that sugaring is regular wax and chocolate wax is better because it’s creamier. I am already too tired from having traveled to Manhattan on President Lincoln’s birthday — I have today off — to explain that this isn’t what was advertised or what I wanted. In my head, I fast-​forward past the painful part and try to calculate the tip for when I leave, so I asked her what the full price of a sugaring service was ($ 35, listed as $ 35 outside for regular wax and $ 40 outside for sugaring).
It’s never a problem for something to be cheaper than you were expecting, except that she had charged me $ 4 tax as soon as I came in. Hair removal services are taxed at 4% in NYC (
), which even at the higher price of $ 40, would only come out to $ 1.60. I walked out after leaving a $ 3 tip because I was annoyed, uncomfortable, and still sticky even though I had said this to her out loud, «I am still sticky,» and then had to ask for more oil and a paper towel to try to get the wax off myself. I couldn’t see every spot and only figured out where the rest of the leftover wax spots were when my pants got stuck to me.
If you’re still planning on going there, know that they’ll try to sell you a membership because it’s cheaper. It probably is. But that doesn’t make it any better! I still have stray long hairs on my legs. Time to break out the tweezers and finish the job myself.

I’m going to keep this brief. (The really short story is– stay away)
I purchased 5 services and it was written on the membership card that it would not expire.
When I came in to claim my fifth service, the woman told me that too much time had lapsed between services, but if I wanted I could buy a new membership: I told her that I found this to be unjust, and asked her how she was going to handle it. She said there was nothing she could do, no discount, no nothing. I basically just threw my money out the window. Keep in mind I prepayed for services and now she refused to accept it/​essentially pettytheft.
I asked to speak to the manager, but I was again refused.
Stay away.

I visited this place today 6÷8÷2014 for a Brazilian wax and I must say I was very dissatisfied with the service. This is not my first time getting waxed so I know when it’s done– I’m suppose to be BALD with NO HAIR. Unfortunately, I had lots of hair still visible. When I told the young woman I still had remaining hairs — she insisted it’s suppose to be like that for the first time. I informed her this is not my first wax and I know it’s not suppose to be any remaining hairs. She just stood there stupidity and had no response. I refused to pay– called my bank and had them refund my money.
PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY GOING HERE for a Brazilian wax. You will leave there with half your hair still visible. Worst Brazilian wax I ever received!

At my first visit (Sunday afternoon) I decided to get my eye brows threaded. It was not nearly as painful as I heard it can be. I also got a facial, which I was pleasant surprised with. I left there feeling great and my face was baby smooth. The young lady who worked on me was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The shop was clean and the lower level was very comfy.

This place has been going downhill on a weekly basis since I’ve started going about a year ago. The staff is extremely unprofessional and unfriendly. This young girl had the door locked and her male friend inside during business hours, as I assume she was left the sole responsibility of managing the store at the time. She texted and answered calls while doing my eyebrows, which is beyond rude. Also, she was not focusing on my brows.
Although, she did a great job on my eyebrows– she did not smile, she did not give me the care and attentiveness I was used to and did not walk me through what she was doing.
Every week before that, the staff has been getting more and more unprofessional and they have been doing a worse job doing my eyebrows.
Vargis is great at eyebrows, but she and her staff lack a vital amount of professionalism needed to keep clientele.
I’m strongly considering going back to my old place.

Should have read the reviews before I bought my groupon. Costs $ 20 extra for sensitive skin facial. And it didnt last as long as other facials I had. And I really hate how pushy they were about trying to get me to pay for eyebrow threading and eyebrow color. No, no, no. They hated my eyebrows but hey, its my wallet.
Never go here, no matter how many groupons they have.

Awesome place! Got my eyebrows threaded, a scalp massage and henna tattoos, so far. Sticking with this place to try other services out.

I have been going to this salon for several years. The prices are very reasonable. This salon is unique to the neighborhood.
So glad to say they are UNDER NEW Management as of June 2013 and the staff is so much better and the services they offer have improved greatly!
The girls that provide the spa services pay close attention to detail just communicate with them on what you are looking for and they will do an excellent job.
It is the only place around that does henna hair color and they do a fantastic job.
If you want a natural hair color without chemicals that does not leave your hair dry and burnt out Henna is the way to go. Your hair will never look better or more healthy. My hair improved in color and condition.
Plus the shine with henna hair color is amazing!
They also do fabulous eye brow shaping, eye brow tinting, eye lash add ons, waxing, massage, threading and excellent facials. I even just got a henna tatoo there similar to a bracelet & it looks fabulous and it will
last a few weeks. So cool!!!
This salon is my go to place !!
Glad they are in my neighborhood on the upper east side.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!
I do Brazilian waxing for a few years already. I used to do it in one salon. But now I decide to try different salons to see maybe I like somewhere else better. I did but defenetly not in Praba Salon! I have never had my skin PEELING after Brazilian. It was such a mess for almost 5 days! I tried all different kinds of lotions but nothing helped! Thanx a lot, Praba, but your service is NOT GOOD!!!

Like all others here I got a «deal». 25 Tuesdays…
I made an appointment for 6 pm and when I got there the place was closed. Out of the blue a woman asked me if I wanted to go to that Salon. Well, yes, as I have an appointment. Oh, well, she answered. I closed early because there wasn t much to do. Well, still I had an appointment! I explained that with two kids (3 months old and almost 2) I needed two babysitters and I got there from Williamsburg. Biggest mistake ever not to read the reviews I would have never gotten there!
Was downstairs and it was freezing cold. The facial was ok but I told her that I have to go by a certain time and while my mask was on she took another customer and I needed to yell at her to come down and finish what she started.
All in all: NO! Never ever go there!

I bought a Groupon here for a sugar brazilian wax. Worst wax I have ever had. I usually go to Shobha, who is quick, clean and professional
First the area was dingy and the door was broken so it wouldn’t close all the way. No gloves were used at all. It started out fine, but when she announced she was done, I still have 40% of my hair left! I had to argue with her to finish the area, including the back side. She claimed it was fine, that the hair was too short (which it was not) She also kept going over the same spot over and over til she actually took off skin. I was raw for a week. I had wax everywhere. All she did was spray some oil on me then left the room leaving the door wide open. She also refused to pluck any stray hairs (which EVERY salon I’ve been too does.)
Completely unprofessional and a waste of money and time. Groupon was nice enough to reimburse me.

I went to this place only because of a special deal I’d heard about… a starter facial, 30 minute massage and henna tattoo for one discounted price.
The place doesn’t exactly feel like a spa… it has the appearance of a neighborhood hair salon with salon type chairs and workstations (which is just an observation only… to give others a sense of the place). It seems that they use these chairs to do eyebrow threading, and perhaps to do the henna tattoos as well.
The ‘spa’ portion of the salon is located downstairs in what is essentially the basement. They do their best to make it feel nice, utilizing lots of fabric to hide the concrete walls and ceiling, and using lots of candles.
My facial was pretty good. The woman did a good job massaging. The extractions however were only done on my T-​zone. She didn’t check for any blackheads etc on any other part of my face (either the sides of my face, sides of my forehead, or the jawline, which is always my trouble spot!) Once the mask was removed with a damp cloth, she then WIPED my face with a DRY towel and that was it… no application of toner or moisturizer (which I normally always get elsewhere after a facial).
Another woman gave me my massage. Overall it was good, though in the beginning when working on my shoulders, she almost seemed ‘hesitant’…almost like a person who was never really trained in giving massage and therefore wasn’t quite sure how to massage me and was instead ‘guessing’ what to do. Towards the end though, the massage was much better.
There wasn’t total privacy down in the ‘spa’ as while I was face-​down on the table, I heard the other worker come down the stairs to the bsmt (isn’t that usually why people go down a flight of stairs. to get to the next floor?) Since the bsmt is just one room, surely she had full view of me as the towel (or sheet… same thing really) barely covered my butt, and my leg was bent back up as she tried to massage my foot. But at that point I figured why bother saying anything… if the other woman sees my crotch so be it. But not exactly something that would have occured in a more professional salon.
For my henna, I decided on a chain-​type design. At first I suggested it go around my ankle (like a bracelet) but then the woman asked if instead I might want it across the top of my foot… starting on the inside side of my ankle, going across the top of my foot and over to my second to last toe (creating a nice arc-​type design). We decided to go with that but then I asked her «what about when I put my shoes back on… will it smudge the design?» She said that it wouldn’t be a problem so long as I let the henna dry for 5 – 10 minutes.
I actually ended up sitting in the chair for 20 minutes to allow the henna to fully dry, and then I put my shoes on. Upon getting home, I saw that in fact, the part of my foot that came into direct contact with the shoe did smudge, entirely. So now I’m left with a big henna colored ‘blob’ on the top part of my very white foot/​skin, so it’s very obvious. Not exactly attractive, and seemingly no way to get it off. I did call the salon to ask them if there was a way I could remove that portion of the henna and she said to wet the area and exfoliate. (Mind you she also seemed rather nonchalant, not offering any kind of ‘oh, I’m sorry to hear that happened…”) Anyway, I did wet and exfoliate the area but that didn’t seem to help, so I suspect I’m going to have to wear closed shoes until the henna wears off, rather than go around with some brown ‘blob’ showing on my foot.
All in all, not a place I’d consider going back to, even IF I lived in the area. I’d rather pay twice the price (as I normally do elsewhere) and have a bit nicer experience.

I have to say that I find it interesting… the level of ‘defensiveness’ that I detect in Praba’s comments.
1) I’m not sure why I would supposedly decline moisturizer, and then later complain that no moisturizer was applied!!! I always accept moisturizer every time I get a facial.
2) I’m not sure why I would mention to the esthetician that my jawline was a problem area for me, that she would then go over that area, and that I would then later complain that she had not done so?
3) While the henna may in fact have been dry enough for one to resume ‘normal activity” (i.e., walking around), clearly a leather shoe rubbing directly against a henna that was only applied 20 minutes ago is something entirely different. Even I knew enough to question this of the technician before she had even begun. asking her if I should be getting a henna on my foot when I am wearing closed shoes, but she told me it wouldn’t be a problem.
4) I live in Brooklyn, so there is no motivation for me to travel back there for a free henna. I also find the level of defensiveness a turn-​off …basically accusing the customer of being ‘wrong’.
