History

Established in 2003.

PUBLIC — in name, concept, and menu — was born of the desire

to explore making quality food a common commodity. It was the first self-​propelled project from AvroKO Hospitality Group, comprised of the design firm, AvroKO (www​.avroko​.com) along with partner Dan Rafalin.

In its inaugural year, PUBLIC won two James Beard Foundation awards (Restaurant Design and Restaurant Graphics) and in the ensuing years helped establish New York’s formerly quiet NoLita neighborhood as a top dining destination. PUBLIC’s inimitable combination of unique design, enticing food, and excellent service has earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in addition to a variety of press accolades both nationally and abroad. PUBLIC’s Weekend Brunch was named «Best Brunch in NYC» by Time Out NY, who considered it «an enticing reason to get out of bed.»
