This place is great! They actually took my coffee from Xandu and gave me a free one to prove how much better it was. They nailed it. Staff was hilarious and gave me a great recommendation for my next stop in Chelsea. Murray’s Bagels. I will be back!

Awesome coffee and baristas with personality. The only downside was that I was expecting to grab some breakfast pastries but they had none since the delivery guy did not get there :( In any case, it is a good independent café which deserves patronage unlike the cookie-cutter Starbucks!!! So go ahead and try it — I loved the Cortado!!!

One of my favorite spots in Chelsea, and without a doubt one of my top 3 coffee shops anywhere in NYC. The space is small and charming, with a few tables and hightop bar by the window. Free Wifi and great people watching. The staff is incredibly friendly and polite. The baristas all have individual personalities, and you really feel that you are a welcomed friend in a neighborhood coffee shop. *Cue«Friends» Intro Here* The coffee is truly gourmet, but not snobby or pretentious about it! Fresh baked goods including amazing banana bread(gotta get there early in the morning before they run out) and my personal favorite: the«Cowboy Cookie». Their non-dairy options are also amazing including the most delicious almond milk I have ever had. Their oat milk is also fantastic. Rex has personality, and that is truly their competitive advantage. If you want homogenous, boring coffee and service to match — go to Starbucks. If you prefer a unique and personalized approach to your caffeinated pick-me-up, Rex is the place for you! Plus, you’re supporting a small, local business. Everybody wins.

I was a little taken aback a couple of months ago when I was charged over $ 4 for an iced tea at the Chelsea location. When I mentioned that this was almost a full dollar higher than most other coffee shops in the city, I was told that it was«cold brew» and therefore better. As someone who drinks a lot of iced tea, I of course realized that just means putting some tea bags in some cold water overnight. I thought I’d give it another shot a couple of weeks ago while walking past. I was happy to see that they’d lowered the price of iced tea, but then I had a frustrating exchange with the worker there: «What kinds of iced tea do you have today?» Reply: «Black, Green, Herbal.» «Are the teas flavored?» Reply: «Black, Green, Herbal.» «Yes, I understand but do the teas have a specific flavor?» Annoyed reply with a snide look and laugh to another customer: «I said Black, Green, Herbal.» I left and won’t be back. Dear Rex, please educate your staff. Thanks.

Fantastic coffee, and I’m from Sydney and a coffee addict so I’m a tough critic. Do yourself a favour and grab a Cortado, it’s the perfect Sunday morning coffee.

Great coffee and gorgeous men! Must try cortado. Bakery is good too. I had a delicious slice of banana nut cake the other day. And yes, I love those witty lines outside the café. I never forget to stop and read them even if I am not having coffee.

Service is super friendly depending on who you get. I usually stop by here after the gym for a solid iced coffee. Don’t forget to ask for a frequent buyer card! 10% off with your Unilocal check-in!

Coffee extraordinary. Pastries fresh and excellent. Staff delightful and witty. You haven’t had a cortado until Darryl’s made you a cortado. Rex makes mornings fun again. The best.

Been here a few times before getting my haircut at Chelsea Gardens Barber Shop. Each time the same guy was working. Very friendly, funny, and charming. The coffee and baked goods are really good too!

Excellent espresso, calm surroundings, happy customer. I missed Ports when it closed down(the other local places are fine but not as good) but this is a worthy successor.

Excellent independent little coffee shop. Stopped in and had a Latte and Cortado. The Barristers were very personable. They explained the drinks that I wasn’t familiar with and even gave me a sample. Very nice place to visit when in New York.

Great coffee great peeps but I had brushed my teeth before leaving my house so I can only rate them out of 5 stars which is convenient because they deserve 5 stars. Glad to have a high quality 3rd wave café in this part of town serving counter culture coffee. #Awesome #OnFleek

Ports was cute, but REX rocks. Rex locale No. II occupies the same small space as the former coffee joint Ports, but they have used their noggins and employed some interior design 101 to open the space. The lighter paint gives the appearance of a bigger space and they updated the tawdry mauve tiles, exchanged for a pleasant white. Also pleasant are the staff and art work, each unique and coloring the space with friendly personalities to accompany the main affair COFFEE! In the hopper regularly is Counter Culture’s blend HOLOGRAM which is no virtual reality, it is in your face delicious. Espresso, cortado, cappuccino, cold brew, drip, you can’t go wrong. They also have an assortment of single origin for pour overs(or available for espresso drinks) from the CC purveyor as well. If caffeine/java is not your thang, tea abounds… cold brew or individual pours. Rishi is the brand. Last but not least are their fresh, baked-daily treats! Try a Blueberry muffin or a Cowboy cookie and you’ll be two stepping all the way to work, or you can kick off your spurs and stay awhile. Wi-Fi is present. :+* peace love and espresso.

I’ve only visited Rex 3 times, but it’s been a great experience each time. On my first visit, I ordered the iced cortado and on my subsequent visits, I’ve had the iced coffee. Both were excellent. Baristas seem friendly and prices are what you would expect for the quality and on par with similar coffee shops in the city.

Upon my first sip of this tasty coffee, I was struck by the good flavor of my oat milk latte. Also, the coffee was prepared at a perfect temperature, ensuring maximum flavor and drinkability. Brian, the owner, is very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee.
