Richmond Shepard Theatre

I went to Richmond Shepard Theater couple of days ago to see a semi-​short play «Blood Privileges». The theater itself is a small place, a little cramped but the seats were comfortable. Currently participating in a play here, super excited about it, I recommend this place because they are doing something different and keeping alive the performing arts.

I went to see the première of Sophia last night. The actors were spirited and focused on thier performances. Saw some real talent. The story was fun and cute, with some quircky humor. We enjoyed ourselves.
The space is very intimate, every seat in the place is a good seat. Seats were also comfortable; show was 90 minutes without intermission and our booties didn’t hurt after the show was over.
Going to the play, I knew this was an off-​broadway show in a small theater. For the price I payed on
I am satisfied.
Heads-​up: If you are driving in, it can be very difficult to find parking. I had to park in a lot next door. After 8pm, the cost of the lot is $ 10 to keep your car there until 6am, which is an awesome price for the city!

This is a Unilocal review long overdue, mainly because I forgot what this place was called.
I came here last Halloween at Ben H.‘s assistance. We saw some … I guess you could call it «a play» although I probably wouldn’t properly define it as such. «Amatuer hour» would probably be much more apt a phrase. Anyway, it was a cheap night of entertainment, and Ben had that puppy dog look in his eyes… what’s a boy to do?
Well, not go. Which is what I should have done.
The plot was basically like, a bunch of dead people slash horror characters were graduating from some sort of high school or rehab center or something? I don’t even know what was happening honestly. Some of the cast were not horrible actors, including Ben’s friend, who was cast as one of the counselors or something. He was given a retro Dracula look, but was very concerned with being politically correct and such. He could have been cast in True Blood, I feel, since he was over the top in all the right moments, but very understated for most of his performance.
The space itself is pretty much a bad place to see a play — especially since the cast was talking to people in character as you came in, there was this real sense of «I can’t get away.» Like, as in a fire hazard. It looks like it might have been converted from something else at some point, but still needs a lot of renovation before you can call it a theater.

I went to Richmond Shepard Theatre a few weeks ago with my friend Cailyn to see a play my friend Zoe helped produce. Now, I will admit, this is not the nicest of theaters. Kinda run down, small and crampy but what I liked the most about this place was the stage setup and the seats. Stadium style seating with soft cushioned seats were placed on two sides of a semi circle stage. Small but intimate the setting lent itself to allow the audience to feel involved in the production.
Things to know: This is kinda hidden on a side street. Best to find using google maps. Also, CASH ONLY.

There is a reason Mr. Shepard is a mime and that reason is an inability to clearly and successfully communicate with non-​mime folk.
I won’t go into too many details and I do recoginze that we contributed to some of the issues we faced while renting this space, but the whole experience was an utter nightmare.
From an actress of ours losing her character shoes due to the theatre’s poorly organized and timed renovations to a lack of toliet paper and paper towels in the bathroom, I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere for theatre space.
It is a unique space but the drama you will face will no doubt overshadow the drama you’re creating on stage.
