Rose Academy of Ballet

My son loves his pre-​ballet class at Rose Academy. We started this past spring semester and then took a break over the summer, but all summer he has been asking about when he can go back to dance class. He loves to show off the different moves he learned in class — arabesque, passé, first position, second position, and third position, among other things. The teachers are all skilled dancers themselves and offer the right mix of fun and structure in the class. I appreciate how long the ‘semester’ is — the fall class session will go into January. I also think the live pianist is a sweet touch.

We have been coming here for 2 years, my daughter started in tippy toes and she loved it. Tippy Toes is for fun and socialization with some ballet. Each child gets a turn to do the ballet positions, Miss Melissa or another instructor will help the child get into postion and they take turns dancing with other students. They also get to go around the room doing fun obsticles, there is a pianist in the classroom, they sing songs, there’s rhymes, a juice break. Very appropriate for the age group. You can’t expect your 2yr old to magically dance in the first class, some are shy and clingy, some run around the room and do what they want, they all eventually learn the routine at their own pace if you stick with it. I am so proud of my daughter and how far she’s come in the classes and her self esteem is so much better, she has become so confident! We did the summer program this year and she loves it, look forward to the fall semester!

My daughter is taking the pre-​balet class for the first time this summer. She loves the teacher and the class very much. My husband and I were worried in the beginning if she’d fit in or would cry as she’s a very shy girl. Our concerns were gone right away looking at her enjoying it so much. We had her for weekday class, and the size of the class is about 5 – 8 students every week, with main teacher and sub teacher. It’s a great ratio. We are grateful and thankful for the school for her joyful memories. We look forward to continuing the semesters.

My daughter had her first tippy toe ballet class here and our experience was horrible. The owner, also the lead instructor, was always in a bad mood. She was definitely not a kid friendly person and doesn’t do anything to incorporate and make sure everyone is involved. She will only pay attention to those who are listening or kiddies who’ve been in the class before and knows what to do. If you are a newbie she doesn’t really care. We were really disappointed with the first class but kept trying to see if the instructor just had a bad day, but nothing changed after the three classes and we just stopped going. It was a miserable experience, especially since it is a small tippy toe class, you expect the instructors to make it more fun and enjoyable for the kiddies and the parents. I would DEIFNITELY NOT recommend anyone attending the tippy toe class. it is just not worth the money.

Rose Academy is really a hidden treasure. They’ve moved around from Church in the Gardens from the Community House before finding their current home on Austin Street, which is much more conveniently located and not a shared space like in the past.
The instruction is wonderful. The ballet classes have a live pianist accompanying the dancing. This really is a wonderful place to let a little girl get her first ballet lessons.
They also offer adult and teen lessons, which I would assume are good, but I have no experience with them.
