Salon Ruggeri

I’ve written a total of two Unilocal reviews in my life, and this will be a well deserved third for not only my lovely colorist, Brittany, but for the entire staff at Salon Ruggeri. I’m pretty lazy when it comes to this stuff, so if and when I take the time to write a review, it’s going to be because it would be a crime not to– for better or for worse.
I’ve been to all of the top salons in NYC, I’ve spent the $ 600 for highlights by the pros that are seemingly no different than the $ 200 kind, and yet I have never returned to any of those places because they were all just simply average and left no impact on me.
I cannot express adequately enough how much I adore Salon Ruggeri. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I had been coming there for years because the way the staff treated me. Every single one of them are seriously some of the nicest, most sincere, and down right awesome people. The salon looks like something out of a magazine, and you cannot help but wish they had a cocktail bar so that you could just come and hang out.
If you have blonde hair, then you know how difficult it can be to trust someone that won’t make you too ashy, golden, brassy, processed, chunky and all the many other ways you can mess up blonde hair. From the moment I sat down with Brittany, I truly felt completely confident in her ability to fix a previous too golden/​yellow job by a well known colorist.
She is not only super sweet, but the girl knows blonde hair! For $ 200– my hair is the perfect shade of blonde and I could not be happier. Seriously, I don’t think I have ever been this happy and this 100% satisfied with my hair. It feels so awesome to have finally found a colorist that I trust, and that I will be returning to as long as there is hair on my head. No more Unilocaling to find hair salons that specialize in blonde hair every two months, and no more wasting hundreds of dollars to be disappointed each time.
Salon Ruggeri and the entire staff has stolen my heart and my blonde little head. For anyone reading this, I aim 100% confident that you will not be disappointed, and like me, will fall completely in love.

I’m absolutely in love with this salon. I started coming here in the end of October, and I couldn’t be happier. I always go to Michelle, and she has quickly become one of my favorite people to chat with. I stop in every two weeks or so for a blowout, and Michelle has done an amazing job with my first haircut here as well. Definitely come here if you have the opportunity to– it’s a gorgeous space as well!

I followed Annie from her prior salon. She’s been doing my hair (highlights and cut) every few months for the last 6 years and she’s wonderful. She definitely will do whatever you want, but is also available to give you creative and helpful advice and suggestions. She really takes the time to make sure every cut and color is perfect. I’ve alternated between light brown to pretty light blond several times. Salon Ruggeri is gorgeous. Very classy and artistic. The assistant that greets you when you enter (blanking on the name) is so friendly and sweet, and makes a mean latte! I feel like I’m in an oasis when I go there. Annie (and Salon Ruggeri) are worth every penny. If you want to love your hair, and have a great experience getting it done — go here.

First off, I need to sing Annie’s praises. I followed her to Salon Ruggeri from her last salon, and I’d follow that lady anywhere. I had been dyeing my hair red myself, but it was turning less red and more purple. Annie was able to rescue my color and take it back to red. After seeing her for a few years, she’s added highlights and taken it in a more gingery direction, which I love. She listens to what I want, and she offers great advice for what would look good. I trust her implicitly. She’s also a lot of fun to chat with during the process, which makes everything even better.
The overall environment at the salon is perfect. It’s gorgeously decorated (I am plotting how to steal the pink couch) with far more attention to design than any salon I’ve been in. They also have a great selection of drinks, and the presentation of the drinks is excellent.

After trying several hair salons, all of which were either «just average» or too expensive, I stumbled upon Salon Ruggeri, a very stylish and classic salon decorated like my dream apartment. I am a natural dark brunette and wanted to go lighter for summer with some layers. I went to Michelle who is absolutely amazing, she listened to exactly what I wanted and the outcome was great, I love it! She truly has a passion for doing hair and you can tell as she talks about your desired look. Everyone in the salon is so friendly and kind and I will continue to go to Michelle for all of my hair styling needs!

So I know all of my reviews are 5 stars, but that’s because I only review places that truly are this good. I recently started coming to Salon Ruggeri’s new location on 5^th Ave when my main hair guru, Annie, moved here. Annie’s been doing my hair for nearly 3 years now and I refuse to let anyone else touch it. I have blunt bangs which Annie handles phenomenally and she totally gets my 60s/​70s style that I always want.
ALSO — the girl is a magician with color. I have naturally red hair that I was terrified to dye, but desperately wanted to make more red but not have it ruin my natural red. She’s done an amazing job with it and even took me from a bright copper/​red-​orange to PINK last September. It was amazing but alas, I missed the red. I then had her take me back to red and I’ve never looked back. Not very many people know how to do red and it’s a hard one to get right, but Annie does a stellar job. I’ve been every shade of red/​orange/​copper and my hair is still healthy and super vibrant.
Now on to the Salon — It’s like going into the apartment I want to have –velvet, mirrors everywhere, amazing gallery walls and the floral arrangements are so so good. Everyone I’ve met at the Salon is wonderful and I always look forward to going back!

I have been coloring my hair for the past 16 years. After multiple botched brassy/​yellow jobs in the past year, I turned to a Facebook forum for recommendations in hopes of finding a talented stylist who would fix my hair and give me the color I have always dreamed about. I was starting to lose hope and thought it was not possible to find such a person. An acquaintance of mine suggested I try Greg at Salon Ruggeri. When I called to make an appointment, I was told Michelle Garwood was available for the time I requested and I accepted. When I first arrived at this salon, I was so impressed by the ambience and the beautiful design of this place. The atmosphere and personal attention I receive from Michelle each time is unbeatable of any other salon I have ever experienced in the past 16 years. The first time, Michelle listened patiently and carefully to understand exactly what color I wanted. She saw how nervous I was about coloring my hair because of past experiences and peacefully reassured me that it will be great. I have been told by other stylists in the past, that the color I have been asking for is impossible to achieve. Well, I have to tell you — Michelle nailed it from the first time and managed to fix my botched brassy color from the past. After second session about a week ago, my hair color is amazing and is exactly what I have wanted all my life; and I am extremely picky and particular about the shade of blonde I prefer. She also gives me great trims and blow outs every time. I have never received so many compliments about my hair, as I do now after trying Michelle.
I am so glad I found this gem of a place and my go to stylist from now on!

Greg and the entire team at Salon Ruggeri are the ultimate professionals. I have highlights/​haircut and truly believe he is the best colorist I have experienced (and I’ve had hair done on East and West Coasts at top salons). The environment is calm and pleasant, unlike many salons where the atmosphere can be anything but relaxing. They are accommodating on appointment times and considerate of time.

I started visiting this beautiful, serene salon about 6 months ago for highlights and have seen Cassie and Michelle. They’re both extremely skilled at creating sun-​kissed, very natural looking color which magically grows out without a visible root line. After seeing Cassie for the second time today, I am even more pleased than before — the old color from a different salon has finally been completely blended in and now I have the gorgeous, shiny Jennifer Aniston type highlights I’ve always wanted! I highly recommend this salon and count myself very lucky to have found it.

I drive 5 hours every 5 to 7 weeks for a color and cut. I have been doing this for 3 years. I have tried to go back to salons closer to home but once you have had Greg’s cuts and color, there is no turning back. I always feel beautiful when I leave. I have gotten constant compliments on my hair since I have gone to this salon. I leave feeling as if I have the sun-​kissed hair of a child. Beautiful dimension. A cut that allows my hair to be at its best. Every client is given complete attention. I hate to be so honest because I don’t want to have to fight for appointments, but this salon is amazing. Everyone in the salon is great. The salon has just moved and is already looking gorgeous. Trust me, you will never go to a more beautiful salon. The entire experience is one of pampering and elegance.

Ruggeri is a beautiful salon. I am a blonde and I am VERY fussy about my color. I see Cassie who is excellent. From my very first visit I felt comfortable that she listened and understood my needs. I can sit and chat and relax in the knowledge I’m in safe hands.

Before I started going to Salon Ruggeri, my hair cut/​color experiences were hit or miss. After a huge «miss» several years ago I found Salon Ruggeri and have been going ever since! Greg brought my fried damaged brassy hair back to life! He is the absolute best at both color and cut! I always leave beyond happy and get tons of compliments! EVERY time without fail! I will never go anywhere else!

Salon Ruggeri IS as Unilocal says — As good as it gets. I make the trip about every two months from the suburbs of New York. I’ve literally been coloring my hair for over 20 years and so I have a lot to compare it to. Salon Ruggeri is the first place that NEVER fails.- Greg is just incredible and now finally I have found my hair soul mate :) — you literally can’t go wrong. His talent is astounding, his color is life changing. Good color and or cut — really can transform your life — make you feel great about yourself — and Salon Ruggeri does all that and more. In my opinion, every other salon is taking a chance — Salon Ruggeri is 100% SURE thing you will walk out HAPPY. Don’t hesitate… but don’t take too many appointments up — I NEED THEM!!! :) :)
