I have been looking for a good American-style Chinese place that delivers in the area for an extremely long time. When I finally found Sammy’s Noodle Shop, I was thrilled. For some reason, there’s a dearth of decent American Chinese delivery in the West Village. Every other place I’ve ordered from features soggy everything, too-salty mushu, and a celebration of oil abuse. With Sammy’s, this is not the case. The dishes that are supposed to be crispy actually are, and everything I’ve ordered has arrived super hot. Special shout out to the cold sesame noodles — they are thick and chewy. The sauce is also delicious. If you want your mind to be blown, grab a cucumber and some scallions to chop up and throw in there before your food comes. A new go-to delivery joint. Check it out!

I’ve been to Sammy’s on two visits to the city and plan to come back every time. On this visit we had their fried meat dumplings, pork with pickled cabbage noodle soup, shredded beef Szechuan and Chinese broccoli, all very tasty and fresh. I have food sensitivity and expect to feel uncomfortable after eating certain foods, especially at restaurants but I haven’t had any bad reaction to the food at Sammy’s.

Some of the best dumplings in NYC! Great double sauteed pork. Roast BBQ duck. Short ribs appetizer. Also they do a great variation of cold sesame noodles –Taiwanese Cold Noodles served with julienned vegetables, chicken and pork but needs scallions and cabbage. Grilled eggplant.

Omg. A noodle shop with the crappiest cold noodles and sesame sauce I ever tasted. Ugh.

What’s not to like at Sammy’s Noodle shop and Grill in the West Village? It’s a convenient choice after rounds of happy hour drinks at our favorite bars in the area, and it’s one of the few restaurants that are open and offer take away orders on Christmas Day. Although the wine selection is awful(minus 1 star for that) and would probably get a disapproval from my wine connoisseur friend Jerry C, the food is of great quality and freshly made. A special mention to our favorite appetizers; the Dim Sum(deep pan) Fried Bacon Shrimp and Sim Sum(steamed) Pork and Shrimp Shumai. The Roast Pork and Shredded beef with chili is highly recommended. The efficiency of service is admirable, there was no or very little waiting time to be seated. This is one great place tourists should tick off on their bucket list while in NYC.

Fantastic noodle joint — very generous portions, lots of choices, ingredients are all tasty and fresh. Had the roast pork wonton soup — outstanding and loaded with enliven pork and wontons for two. The red bean buns were very good as well. All for a great price(around $ 10 – 11 for a noodle bowl). Can’t go wrong!

One of the best noodle shops in the city! I go here about once a month and love the roast pork wonton soup, although I always switch out the wonton for udon noodles. Also, if you like pork buns, get it! It’s huge and life altering! The staff is great and the food is delicious. The only thing that could be better is the restaurant itself. Not the nicest. That’s the reason for the 4 stars.

Really enjoyed the service and delicious food! I had pork fried noodles and was impressed with the quantity and the amount of delicious pork. The meal was like a treasure hunt for delicious morsels and I was not disappointed.

Only been here once, but food was so terrible you couldn’t pay me to eat here again. Got the wonton soup with duck. Wonton wraps were undercooked, dough was still raw where it was pinched together. Pieces of duck were overly salty and mostly skin and bones, out of six pieces, got about 1 oz of useable meat. They should have given me a scalpel with this dish. Service was ruthlessly efficient, was in and out(still hungry) in 20 minutes.

This is an inconsistent Chinese restaurant. Tonight the service was surly and when we received the wrong spring roll order they were not changing what they gave us! It was close enough! Maybe it was the rain or that we were there early but it was disappointing and the food was okay. Don’t order the little bit of everything soup unless you are comfortable eating a kitchen sink. The rice was dry. If this continues soon they will be the next Charlie Mon across the street and now closed after 20+ years.

I absolutely love this place! I come here frequently before I go bar hopping to the gay bars located along Christopher St. It’s the perfect place to fill up before you go drinking. The prices are reasonably cheap, service is good and the food is delicious. I’ve gotten the dumpling samplers and the everything noodle, which is out of this world! Full of flavors and juiciness. The food comes out piping hot, so I’d wait to let it cool before eating otherwise you’d burn your tongue. The only complaint is that the lady at the front tends to have an attitude and will give you looks. But that’s only the lady at the front, the rest of the service was good!

One time my sister came home with a box of leftovers she likes to save for tomorrow, and I have this thing where I steal her food to make up for all the shitty things she’s done to me growing up(like, trying to sell my inheritance). Sometimes, I’m not especially hungry, so I steal just enough to ruin her day. I remember it pretty vividly because as soon as she got home, I’d just finished eating dinner. But you know, I’m a man of my word, so I waddled to the fridge and somehow… SOMEHOW ended up eating the whole thing. That’s how good their cold sesame noodles are. I didn’t even bother to heat it up; it went so perfectly with my Netflix. Then I saw the receipt and was surprised to see how cheap it was for a Manhattan restaurant. Dafuq? Delicious? Cheap? These are things poor people dream about. It’s right next to my gym, so I’ve eaten here twice and I have to say– stick to the cold sesame noodles. I really was expecting to have the same reaction to their other foods… nah. Normally, I’d give a place like this 3 stars, given location and all that jazz, but seriously bruh, cold sesame noodles.

Surprisingly good Chinese food, given it’s location. Pricier than what you could get in Chinatown, but the portions are great for sharing, there’s no wait for a table on a Sunday for lunch, and they can accommodate a party of 15(with 2 kids). Impressive. Wish they had a changing table in the bathrooms, but at least they provide high chairs. The noodles are made fresh and really delicious. Taking away a star because though they were able to seat our table together, the food came out at VERY different times(30 min between the first food and the last).

With many unpleasant experiences: a rude phone lady that blame her mistake on customers and rude delivery men that imposing for more than 30% tip at Grand Sichuan on 7th, detour my choice of Chinese takeout to my old favorite Chinese restaurants that have been survived for many years in the village. Sammy’s is definitely one of them. After moved onto the cuisine from different part of China, especially very spicy and with numbing peppery dishes from Sichuan region for many years to come back to this Cantonese influenced American Chinese dishes like General Tso’s Chicken and Beef & Broccoli from Sammy’s, has recently satisfied my craving for nostalgic memories of good old days. Beef w/Broccoli over rice($ 7.95) Juicy beef was tender and broccoli was cooked perfectly, soft outside and firm inside. I like the outer layer soaks up the sauce and makes very flavorful. The sauce had a good balance between soy sauce and oyster sauce and the glazing wasn’t too thick either, just right. Hot & Sour soup that I opted over Corn Egg Drop soup or soda was good as Grand Sichuan, not too thin and with full of essential ingredients, wood ear fungus, bamboo shoots, and tofu. A punch of sourness form dark vinegar was also appetizing for me.

Great selection and clean, quick service. I wish I could recommend specific dishes by name but my friend commandeered the menu and ordered everything for our group, lol. There was an assortment of dumplings, spicy noodles, sweet bean buns. It was all delicious. The waitress could have been a little more friendly, but the place was also pretty packed so perhaps she was distracted. At any rate, I recommend that you go try this place out if you haven’t yet. In the meantime, I have to shake my friend down for the name of those dumplings…

So yesterday I had really bland and flavorless American Chinese food in the Bronx… I never knew food could make you feel so depressed but I just had no enthusiasm for my tasteless sweet and sour chicken. With every bite I took, I thought of Sammy’ Noodle Shop, the only place that has ever gotten me to like American Chinese. It felt like I was a guy who just broke up with a really hot guy/gal and the rebound just didn’t compare. Anyhow, I actually ended up trying the cold sesame noodle dish and oh my god, Becky, that shit is heaven. The Peanut sauce is so amazingly good and it’s like the perfect summer dish. Just made me fall madly in love with Sammy’s when I only enjoyed it before. Make no mistake though, while this spot has the best American Chinese food to offer in the city, it’s just that… not real Chinese food. So it’s a bit ironic to see somebody in the reviews saying that people reviewing this place favorably must not be from here. If you want real Chinese cuisine that’s not just egg rolls and fried rice go to Flushing. Bet you won’t know what half of it is.

Food: Decent Service: Very Good Ambience: OK Walked in here because the place we wanted to go to was busy. Overall I am glad we did. We were seated immediately the exceptional thing about Sammy’s was the service the staff was so friendly and polite. The menu was a little different than an average the Chinese eatery but they had the usual favorites covered. I find it hard to say anything bad about the food and also I find it hard to say anything good about it. It was adequate and fresh. Overall an OK experience

Best Chinese cuisine in NYC hands down. Can’t believe I haven’t written a review about you! The portions they serve for the price are incredible & amazingly delicious! I’ve been coming here since I could remember and my family loves it as well . Seems like there is something for all. What I always get if the Sea-food Noddle Soup which consist of shrimp, crab meat, & squid, thick long noodles, broccoli, baby corn, carrots and much more!!! For only 12.50 it’s so big its shareable for too! Believe me it’s so delicious and filling. Also I always order a side of shrimp fried rice! Very very good and savory!!! They also have other stuff but I usually always stick to this and am NEVER disappointed. Try it & thank me later!!! Also what I always like is that I always see the same servers every time I go! That’s always a good sign. P. S. As you are walking out the restaurant, in the counter there are free toothpicks available & free chewable mints in a jar.

Love. It. Great greasy gigantic food coma traditional American Chinese place with a twist. I love the soup dumplings, cheaper and soupier in China town but I’ll take it for the convenience :) I had the Singapore pork bbq, to die for(or after actually because your ratio of LDL: HDL and triglycerides get out of whack and you might as well developed atherosclerosis on the spot) it s okay, it’s worth it. Sadly it doesn’t even come with rice, just that greasy colorful pork goodness. Love the rice cake dish(New Years eve?!) so good, holey oil. Boy, it should be a Chanukah dish. The service is terrible. There isn’t a place that makes you feel less welcome, but it’s okay. It’s worth it and they know it hahaha. Sometimes you have to catch the fortune cookies they throw at you at the end of your meal(I think it’s to wake us our of the digestive stupor we tend to be stuck in)

The epitome of efficiency for takeout. The ladies at the order desk know exactly what is going on and question you to make sure you get what you ordered. The food is consistently as good as most«regular»(meaning somewhat Americanized) Cantonese Chinatown restaurants even though the prices are higher. This busy place just about cornered the market in the vicinity.
