Savour Sichuan

Solid! Great hot and sour soup and dandan noodles. They have a lunch special that includes. A main rice and soup. Good service nice ambience, will be back.
Soup dumplings are pretty good though grand Sichuan in Chelsea is better. I found the dough to be a bit too thick for my tasteZ

It did the trick of satisfying a hungry group of people not experienced with Chinese food. The staff work hard there to please you and there was nothing bad about the experience. The food is just not exciting enough to make you want to return and there are plenty of better Chinese cuisine options in NYC to try.

After reading some great reviews, I decided to give this place a try since it’s right by my office. I was here with a couple other friends and we ordered kongbao chicken, shredded pork with pepper, spicy fish pot, fuqi feipian and a veggie dish. Kongbao chicken was probably the best one out of everything I tried here. The shredded pork dish was a bit sweet, the spicy fish pot was way too oily on the top, there’s also bones in the fish so be careful when you’re eating that. Not the best chinese place I’ve been to, but I also live in Flushing so my standards could be higher. Prices are also higher than most Chinese places I’ve been to, with so many other options around I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Everything about this place was all around horrible. I ordered sauteed okra and brown rice with chili oil. After waiting too long, they gave me the dish with white rice and no chili oil. The okra was according to what the waiter had described but not really tasty. After finishing my dish, I had to wait 10 mins to get my check. Once the check arrived, I just gave my credit card so I didn’t have to wait much longer. Unfortunately, that was a mistake as they charged me the wrong amount, the dish was around $ 8, but they charged me $ 15. Also the guys next to me who came before me never got their food even as I was leaving.

food — very clean and fresh and tasty

Not sure I agree on the ‘super-​spicy food’ mentioned in more than a half-​dozen reviews of Savour Sichuan, but then… we didn’t order anything that would normally meet that criteria.
On arrival for our yearly ‘weekend in NYC’, I decided that I needed some decent Chinese and looked for a spot near our hotel in midtown. Savour, with all of it’s excellent reviews and location about 8 blocks away, provided a very respectable meal with many delicious and subtle flavors. Our chicken with black bean sauce was excellent, and our steamed dumplings were some of the best I’ve ever had.
We’ll almost certainly be back.

Among the best… Followed a few Elite reviews and chose beef with pickled peppers, garlic pork, string beans, crispy chicken. Probably the best i have had in a while… you crave these really when u r out of town and there aint much burning hot chinese dinning available.

Omg. I love this place.
The food is absolutely delicious. It’s really authentic and the service is quick. I consider this one of the best restaurants I’d ever been to. (I also came with my vegetarian friend.)
Highlights:
— Chilled pumpkin noodle with chili sauce (this is on a special menu, not sure if they always have it)
— Chinese bacon with shredded bamboo shoots
— Tasty pot with fish fillet in it (don’t know the exact name)
Pretty much anything you order will be delicious here!

When I’m in the area, this restaurant is always one I will reach out for if I need a low key meal with Sichuan food. The menu is not massive, but it’s not small either. There’s a number of authentic dishes on this menu and it’s all pretty good. The Xiao Long Bao has been hit and miss, but mostly good (and it’s not Sichuan food anyway).
Recommended if you are in the area and need something low key and pretty good. They serve alcohol too.

Believe it or not, it’s one of the best Chinese restaurants in Manhattan. The first time I went there I ate with 10 other friends, all of whom are from China and they loved it. The chef is so famous that he has numerous fans on Weibo, the top Chinese social networking website.
Although slightly Americanized, the food is legit, tasty, and inexpensive. They provide a whole bunch of dishes for you to choose from, so you definitely want to go there over and again to explore different kinds of dishes. Some can be very spicy, but generally acceptable for most of the people.
It’s a big restaurant so walk-​in folks usually don’t need to wait a table. Just to mention, it’s still slightly more expensive than other Chinese restaurants in NYC.

My favorite items were the ginger scallion beef (which our very helpful waiter recommended), and the Chinese Okra. We also tried the Mapo Tofu (pork), scallion pancakes, and pork soup buns — they were all pretty yummy too.
Cannot wait to return :)

Wooh upgrading to a 5! I came here for a friend’s engagement brunch, and it was absolutely lovely. The chef prepared a series of off-​the-​menu authentic Sichuan dishes that were just simply delicious. 15+ courses later, I left with a food coma that would last the rest of the day. The chef even came out at one point to make sure we were enjoying the food, how adorable! We spent over 3 hours at brunch, more of the time talking than eating, but the restaurant staff did not try to rush us out at any point. If you’ve been to the neighboring michelin 1-​star rated Café China, you should know that the luxury of not being rushed out should not be taken for granted.

It is really bad… I don’t usually give out two stars, but I kinda feel like this is the highest I could give them. The service is good, but the dishes are really really bad. Everything is too salty. We ordered three authentic dishes. All of them are really heavy taste. Two thirds of the dishes are filled with green onions, garlic and peppers. There is nothing much to eat. We were pretty disappointed. None of the dishes tastes good. Not mentioned everything is over price. For the same amount of money, I would go to café China. The servers are very helpful and nice, and kept checking on us. However, it doesn’t worth a try. Trust me on this, I am more than qualified to rate Chinese food. I am 100% Chinese.
太咸了 太咸了 太咸了！ 重要的事情说三遍！好失望啊…还是倾城比较好吃。点的所有的菜里面就清炒豆苗和麻辣抄手好吃点。跳水鱼里面一大堆不知道什么不能吃的姜葱蒜辣椒，鱼里面一堆骨头。铁板脑花咸的要过水还死贵死贵。还有一个干锅肥肠一般般，没有湘水人家好吃 。整个人都吃醉了。醉死我了。我以后都不要再去了…差评！要是服务态度不好我就给一星了…

I’m always happy to hear of when a new Sichuan restaurant opens in New York City, so when I stumbled across Savour Sichuan earlier in the summer, immediately set it as a post-​work dinner venue. The restaurant replaced the former China Sun, and is located just south of Times Square — far enough removed from the crowds of tourists, but convenient enough to get to for anyone who works in downtown Manhattan.
The venue is on the nicer end of the spectrum for Chinese restaurants, complete with random Oriental pieces and ornaments, and several separate dining areas. On the evening that we arrived, there were only a few other parties present, but note that the dining room is pretty sizable with plenty of well-​spaced tables, so waits shouldn’t be an issue here. We were quickly greeted and given menus and water, and as Sichuan cuisine is the food I grew up eating, my friend left most of the ordering to me.
Of the three dishes we tried that evening, I’d say the Dan Dan Noodles are the one dish probably not worth ordering again. I’m a little biased given that I have an ongoing love affair with the ones served at Han Dynasty [1] but these paled in comparison. The noodles were tasty, but the sauce they were coated in lack the richness and complexity of flavor we were hoping for. While they were savory and spicy, we missed the nuttiness and slight sweetness that the sesame paste would have contributed, and the topping of ground beef and pickled vegetable was on the smaller side as well.
Our entrees more than made up for the noodles, however. The Kung Pao Chicken, one of the dishes that has an entire spectrum of presentations and degrees of «authenticity», was one of the better ones I’ve tried. The chicken was tender and juicy, coated in sauce that balances savory, spicy, and sweet, and stir-​fried with peanuts and plenty of chili peppers; unlike many restaurants that skew the ratio of ingredients with various vegetables and other fillers, Savour Sichuan’s version was pretty generous in the protein serving. The Yu Xiang Rou Si (Shredded Pork in Garlic Sauce) was the one I was most impressed by, however. The dish roughly translates into «Shredded Meat with Fish Aroma» — not a tempting direct translation, but it’s a difficult dish to perfect given the need to balance aggressive flavor profiles of vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar with the added punches of flavor from the garlic and ginger. Done well, however, it makes for one of the most delicious dishes: a stir-​fry of sliced pork, bamboo, wood ear mushrooms, and peppers that pairs perfectly with white rice.
Prices are on the higher end of most Chinese restaurants, but given the location and the quality of food, it’s an understandable upcharge. For those that are expecting the typical, run-​of-​the-​mill Chinese food… well, it might be best to avoid Savour Sichuan; neither the food nor the women of the region are known to be mediocre [2].

I ordered qing hua (frog), fu qu fei pian, kao yu (roadted fish). And they all blew my mind off… im coming back here again. I Love sichuan food.

I came here at the suggestion of a friend and was at first skeptical, but ended up enjoying it so much that I came again the next day!
If you are a lover of spicy Szechuan food, this place will make your taste buds very happy! The food is very authentic and very spicy. My favorite was the beef and noodles which I’ve never seen at any other restaurants but has become one of my favorite dishes. The spicy fish filet is also really great.
Overall, very authentic Chinese food and definitely going to be one of my go-​to places in midtown!

#Affordable lunch special. Complimentary tea. Not very crowded when I went during lunch. Nice #neon fish tank to stare at.
The #Fish Fillet with Ginger and Scallion Sauce was just okay (a little bland). I think I ordered wrong. I’m sure other stuff is #better.
I liked the #Hot and Sour soup. Had a rich tea-​like flavor that I grew up with.

Lunched here with my boss. Cute and calm atmosphere in the middle of the other midtown restaurants that are zoos around lunchtime. We were seated immediately; our table was uncomfortably close to the ones adjacent to us. Maybe remove a table to make some space, guys?
We had the General Tao’s, orange chicken, and shredded beef with green pepper. Ordered them with fried rice and spring rolls. I also got a taro bubble tea. No complaints with the food. Some of the best Chinese I’ve ever had. Had just enough spiciness.
Waiters were slow, even though it wasn’t busy. We waited several minutes for someone to take our order and for our bill, and this might be annoying if you’re on a work lunch with a time restriction.

Loved it. Midtown has a decent place to get super spicy food that numbs your lips.
Walked over after having a few Brews at skylark. Sat with a party of 6 and promptly seated. Ordered and food was like waiting for us.
We had the Dan Dan noodles, not as spicy as the ones at «THE HANDY nasty» but good.
Also asked for the fish soup, tofu platter and other spicy food that the waiter recommended. Omg so delicious, so numbing if you can actually think it’s a good flavor. Clean, cheap, fast and delicious. The best part was that locals actually come here, it’s not a tourist trap.
I will edit the review when I get home and check the names of the plate.

Food was ok, they forgot one course and brought it over after we were almost done.
BE CAREFUL IF YOU TIP THEM ON YOUR CREDIT CARD!!! They changed my tip from $ 5 to $ 12
