Seema’s Place

She does beautiful work for a steal at $ 10. She threads which is not for everyone, it’s just something to keep in mind. She might be a little abrupt on the phone with you but just ignore. She’s busy and the salon is loud. Once you get to know her she is very kind and genuine. I’ve gone to the $ 50 – 65 brow people to and they weren’t even as good. Afternoon is the best time to get an appointment. She is almost always booked in the evenings.

She is the best in New York. I have tried many others from the most expensive ‘brow artists’ to cheaper places, but noone can do the magic like she does. Might be hard to book sometimes, but she is a sweetheart always

Quick, fast, and thorough! I walked in without an appointment after work and she was able to see me within five minutes. Once I was in her chair, we had a discussion about where my brows had been, where they are now, and where I wanted them to go. We then charted a plan to make my dreams a reality.
Let’s be real. I could stop here and the service would be 5 stars. Most places before you can describe what you are looking for, they are attacking your brows and imposing their ideal look on your face.
But, I must continue. She then periodically would hand me the mirror to make sure I was comfortable with the direction she was headed. I left happy, swiftly, and only out of $ 10 (plus tip).
.. . much more pleasant experience than the 6 train I took home afterwards.

I love Seema. I am creating this account just so I can leave her a review.
She’s by appointment only so I always call when I have a few days to play with in case she can’t take me the same day — 9 times out of 10 it’s the next day but I don’t mind, she’s worth the wait. She doesn’t take calls while with clients and so there are times when she doesn’t answer her phone. I just leave a message and she always calls back. Also, she has never backed out of an appointment on me.
When I first went to see Seema I asked for my brows to be done a certain way. She explained that my brows didn’t grow in an natural arch and that you couldn’t expand upon what isn’t there. She advised that she would clean them up a bit and as they grew in she’d be able to do a better job on them, giving me whatever arch she could get out of them.
Well, Seema is the expert here, not I so I thought I would take her suggestion & kept going. True to her word she’s turned them around. While I don’t have a high arch I love the shape they are now. Very natural and fitting for my face.
I love her and will be a lifelong customer.

I just moved to NYC about a month ago. Previously had been going to the same lady for 8 years in a different state so I’m VERY picky about my brows. I like a thick and long shape which most people can’t get perfectly but Seema was AMAZING! She’s such a sweetheart and luckily only a 5 minute walk from me! She’s very professional and focuses on her clients so I would say to call ahead and book an appointment with her. Can’t wait to go back! First experience was awesome! I got so many compliments on my brows! They’re thick and long but well groomed at the same time.

I went to Seema twice. The first time she was sweet and really took her time with me, and I had simply walked in without an appointment.
The second time I made an appointment was not as enjoyable and I am very particular about my brows so this turned me off a bit.

Seema was great! After a bad experience at a different salon, I have been trying to grow out my eyebrows and make them symmetrical. Seema taught me all about how my eyebrows should look once they grow in fully and she shaped them really well in order to get them on that track! She was so nice, knowledgeable, and very reasonable. I already booked my next appointment with her in a couple weeks!

I really wanted to like her, I really did but she made me soooo UNCOMFORTABLE. I thought she would be great — I thought I may have found the perfect person, until… I met her.
Shame on you Unilocal for fooling me once again!
1) Seema is by far one of the rudest/​bossiest people I have ever experienced in a business/​professional setting.
2) Seema does not take criticism well: She is more the type to tell you what she thinks you need and doesn’t want to hear what you have to say if it’s not in full agreement with her.
3) Seema doesn’t honor her appointments.
4) Seema rarely answers her phone
5) Seema is very unpleasant (unless you’re into weird motherly verbal abuse)
6) Seema used condescending nicknames like «honey»
7) Seema talks (at you) A LOT
8) Seema never works on the weekend and is cash only
My experience:
* 1^st visit — Barely does anything. Says my brows are so uneven that she wouldn’t dare touch them under this condition. She pulled out a few hair and replaces the ones she left behind with endless comments about how terrible the people I went to are and how she is so much more professional and skilled and I left feeling like my brows were worst than I thought they were.
* 2^nd Visit — I made an appointment with her, came on time and she said she would need 20 (not 15) minutes for me so she couldn’t do me because she had an appointment right after. I ask you then, Seema, why schedule appointments 15 minutes apart if you can’t fit the people you have coming in.
AND please tell me what’s worst — you flaking on/​kicking out a fairly new client and making a terrible impression or having your next client wait 5 extra minutes?
When I came back (can’t believe I actually went back) she does a crappy job on my brows, taking off WAY too much hair and when I tell her nicely that next time I would prefer they to be a bit thicker — she tell me «well it looks better this way, than the way you wanted it»

I made a Unilocal account just to review Seema, she is amazing!
I called to make an appointment two days ahead of time. I was also coming in with two friends that wanted their brows threaded as well, and she had a very packed schedule that day so she squeezed us in.
I had never gotten my eyebrows waxed or threaded by a professional, I had only plucked them on my own for a few years. I also have very sparse brows that grow very slowly, so I was nervous to get them done because I felt if they were messed up there was no going back.
I grew them out for sixth months looking for a trustworthy place to thread them, and heard about Seema’s from a friend. I was extremely nervous, but it helped that her Unilocal reviews were great, and she made me feel comfortable.
Seema asks you what you want the final product to look like, but remains realistic and explains why certain looks aren’t attainable for your brows and why. Overall, it was a great experience.
I’m so happy with my brows (posted before and after pictures), and the $ 10 was surely worth it! Will be going back!
**Update: I later got my eyebrows threaded at a place closer to my home just because I didn’t have time to go to the city to see Seema, and was just reminded of how great she is. My eyebrows were threaded way too thin and looked ridiculous! Since then I will make sure to go to no one else but Seema!

This lady is rude on the phone. I really wanted my eyebrows done by her after reading such great reviews. I dont live near by so the only way is for me to make an appointment. I call during the afternoon and sometimes she does not pick up. Just last week i finally got to talk to her on the phone. I asked her some eyebrow questions and she got all defensive. As i was discussing what time for out appt, she couldnt hear me on the phone too well so she hung up on me. I tried calling her back, and she hung up each time. Seriously? She is one rude lady on the phone. Sure she may be nice in person, but i wouldnt know. Trying to make an appointment with her is not so easy.

Seema is amazing! i have been strictly going to only her for the past year and a half and my eyebrows look great. shes very sweet and quick-​about 10 – 15 mins. price is very reasonable and i always get compliments on my brows after visiting seema. i would highly recommend to anyone who needs a great eyebrow threading contact! thanks seema!

Very thoughtful crafting of eyebrows

Seema chastised me for over plucking my left eyebrow when I first met her then went promptly to work. She made my brows right, gave me grooming advice and made it all fast & painless. Threading way better than waxing and seema is the best– btw she is inside the hair salon on the corner! Don’t get lost

I do not go to anyone else to do my eyebrows! They are actually in recovery. Sadly, before Seema, I’ve had bad experiences with folks making my eyebrows too thin but thanks to Seema, they are finally growing back and taking shape. Seema has great experience; she knows what she’s doing. She cares too. She’s invested in your eyebrows and will make sure that the shape fits your face as well as will listen to what you want! She’s also a pleasure to be around. She’s super sweet and has a great sense of humor. I am so happy I found her and as long as I can go to her, I will!

Seema is like my Asian mom. If I haven’t been in a while, my next visit is sure to be accompanied by some verbal abuse. Most of the time, I just brush that off since I sincerely believe that’s how middle-​aged Asian women display their affection.
Most of the threading places I’ve patronized are: the usual, hole-​in-​the-​wall, in-​and-​out, wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am, $ 7-​$ 10 a pop, kinda places. In that respect Seema is not much different. Her pricing is on the higher end of that range and located inside the Filles et Garcons hair salon.
As for her actual work, I do appreciate that she spends a bit longer shaping and trimming my brows. She also stops and inspects her work instead of just threading away, while yammering to other threaders. As a result of her extra attention, I do feel like I leave this place with more even, cleaner brows. However she could be difficult to get an appointment with if you call the day of. I find that rather annoying since I’m lazy and threading hurts, so I usually put it off until my eyebrows are two little patchy caterpillars and can’t really wait another day. Guess just like my real mom and Seema suggested; I need to start planning earlier.

Ammazing! She was very nice. I called and made an appt. for after work. I waited maybe 5 minutes (but I was almost 10m late). My eyebrows needed someone like her! I will be back. I highly recommend.

Been going to Seema for a few months now and she completely reshaped my brows and they are the best they’ve ever looked.
Appointments are quick but you MUST make an appointment because she usually books up. I was lucky enough to get a walk-​in appointment one afternoon but I think that’s a rare occasion.
Very reasonably priced and cash only. Would definitely recommend her!

Seema is super fast at getting your brows done. She kept mine nice and full while being honest with what would look good and natural. She is also sweet and funny with her banter while cleaning your eyebrows.
Make sure you schedule an APPOINTMENT. She has a lot of clients and I saw her turn away 5 walk-​ins because she was fully booked. Also, do not be late or you will have to wait for your turn.

This place is hard to find. I walked around for at least 5 min… turned to Unilocal and learned that it was inside a salon. Would be nice if she had a sign!

WHAT
She will clean up your brows. She told me that mine were not the same in length and shape so she fixed them. She was very nice. I paid $ 15 for upper lip and eye brows. Remember, CASH ONLY!

As many have said (but it’s still worth mentioning.), Seema’s Place is inside the salon on the corner, Filles et Garcons. I was almost late to my appointment looking for a sign for «Seema’s Place»! You will get your eyebrows done where passersby can see you, so hopefully you don’t work in the area and have an embarrassing encounter.
Seema is good at what she does. That said, I didn’t have a pleasant experience and am still on the search for the best intersection of price and service. Seema is the strict, condescending mother I thankfully never had. Upon looking at my eyebrows, she said she could not work with them because they were too sparse.
Seema: What am I going to do with these? What do you want me to do? I have nothing to work with!
Me:“Can you just clean them up a bit?
Seema: You plucked too much! You have to let the hairs grow back before you come to me.
When I proceeded to tell her I hadn’t been plucking, she called me a liar. Sigh. After a few more exchanges, she finally agreed to work with my deficient eyebrows. While my eyebrows looked a lot better once she worked her magic, I thought it could’ve all been done without being accused of lying about when I last touched my eyebrows…
Also, the other reviews I read here say she is $ 7?! She charged me $ 12 + tax, which is obviously still cheap but completely unfair to overcharge on a whim. (My second time, I was charged $ 9)
Seema is actually a pretty sweet lady, but she doesn’t sugarcoat anything ;) She does eyebrows and she does them pretty well.
