I went here once. They charged me twice on my debit card, once for $ 7.62, for the food I actually got. The second time for $ 41.89, which was complete FRAUD. I only got they’re mediocre lunch buffet, which was $ 7 plus tax. I noticed the 2nd charge on my account, which was made 1 minute after I was charged for my food, and called them. The manager said he wasn’t there that day, and asked the guy who was the cashier, who said he only charged $ 7.62, and didn’t know anything about the other charge, claiming he never made it. I called my bank, and the fraud dept. said that sometimes restaurants charge extra on the same card by accident, but it doesn’t become official until they submit their paperwork. He reversed it, but said to check back a few days later to see if the charge was still there, which would indicate that they filed the paperwork for it. I called back and said that I’d spoken to the bank, and as long as they didn’t file paperwork for the $ 41.89 it would be fine, and he said he wouldn’t and that he didn’t know what that even was for. I checked my band statement again today and there was the charge for $ 41.89! They submitted this FRAUDULENT charge even after they said they didn’t/wouldn’t charge it, and after they agreed that they wouldn’t submit the paper work for it. They are LIARS and have basically attempted to STEAL from me as far as I’m concerned, so I wouldn’t recommend NEVERGOINGHERE. I certainly will never spend another dime there.

My eyes went all agog when I bounced in here for the first time around 330p today to pick up a meal(linner? dunch?). I suspect they gave my paneer-white ass a deal for my rampant enthusiasm, because I have four hungry people’s worth of food and two acceptable coffees for a shade over $ 20. I like the combination of serve-yourself hot food and ask-for-it cold. Ladled myself some malai kofta, chix curry(not for me), and, I dunno, saag aloo I guess it would be. Then I went all nuts with the pakora and somosas, and the very kind gentleman made me an aloo filled paratha fresh. Took a while, and was worth it. Everything is much fresher than most Indian delis’ fare, and it carries the anticipated, sitting-in-your-stummy-for-hours heft.(I barely passed on the gelabi for dessert, but they look perfecto.) In conclusion: clean, bright, fresh, friendly! and open 24 hours warrants an extra star from this intermittent Unilocaler… I’m dashing this off to echo the point Adam M. makes – I fear they won’t make it. Support this nomtastic eatery!

Quite honestly, when I want Indian food, I make it myself, because nobody else makes it as well, but I’m SO pleased to find that these folks have a fresh and tasty buffet made on-site and it’s a dead cheap $ 7. Different selections every day. Now, this is not a fancy restaurant and this is not fancy Indian food. Tabla has fancy Indian food(and I know this because I worked as a cook there for two years). So if you want white tablecloths and metal forks, go elsewhere. You’ll get foam plates and plasticware here. But know this: the tandoori chicken is juicy, the aloo sag had dimension, the chickpea masala was very pleasing and the salty lassi absolutely hit the spot on a hot day. Best Indian in the neighborhood, and believe me, I’ve tried them all. Do they make a good Greek salad or iced coffee? Don’t know. Don’t care. I’ll be back for the buffet.

Good find. They just opened up this week, and I must say that’s quite a ballsy move considering that Punjabi Dhaba is across the street. But they’ve got some quality food here, and it’s pretty cheap to boot. $ 7 for an all-you-can-eat buffet that’s even open on weekends is pretty much unheard of in NYC. The food is tasty and decent selections– today they had malai kofta, lamb curry, tandoori chicken, aloo mattar, cabbage, and rice pudding for dessert(though oddly it was warm rather than cold). Naan is a dollar extra, but it’s good naan. Worth coming back for sure. No frills ambience but clean and hygenic. They also have Indian sweets and other deli items which looked appealing. My one gripe: The Californian in me just cringes at the styrofoam plates! C’mon it’s the 21st century, let’s stop sticking it to the environment and start using biodegradables.
