I came here because my coworkers were going and I wanted to join them for lunch. I waited 30 mins in the cramped, sweaty front area for my food because they made it incorrectly TWICE. The quality certainly wasn’t worth the wait either. It was warm and the rags and board the chefs use to roll on are pretty dirty. ONE basic roll and a green salad was $ 9.Would never go back here.

I’m a little taken back from the recent 4– and 5-star reviews for Shinju from a few Elite Friends of mine, cause I personally don’t feel the same. Let me make this simple for you — Shinju Sushi is downright terrible. The sushi is poor quality, the place itself doesn’t seem that clean, and the takeout service was fairly rude. When my company first moved to FiDi, I came a few times, and every time, it was bad. And the place is rather dark and the sushi bar is right at the entrance and not in the back near the eating area… so strange. I don’t have much else to say(and I usually write long reviews lol) other than, Pass on Shinju. Instead, go to Nu Sushi or Taste of Tokyo — they’re only two blocks away, but exponentially better in quality!

Hibachi ordered was barely edible. Definitely was steamed, or microwaved, and then doused in sauce. Neither the meat or vegetables had signs of being on a grill.

The spicy tuna roll here gave me food poisoning. I will never eat at this place again. Also the delivery man was very rude to me. There really is no reason for me to give this place a chance again.

The best sushi I have had in Nyc. The all you can eat is amazing and the selection is great ! I was really impressed with the quality. Would definitely recommend.

Can’t believe the other reviews. Came in for all you can eat and the fish was so fresh! Service was very warm and prompt– are you kidding me? All you can eat fresh sushi, good rice, right temperature– fresh nigiri and all you can drink for $ 32.95. Probably the best all you can eat sushi in Manhattan and it was dead because of bad reviews. Strange!

I come here for the lunch special. It’s a good deal considering the neighborhood. The fish is good and the rolls aren’t excessive with the rice.

The sushi wasn’t anything great, the people were rude. I just didn’t have a great experience here. So many other better places to try.

I ordered the Sushi Lunch special. When I had the salmon, I could tell that the fish was old. Sure enough, I got food poisoning and it’s ruining my weekend. Thanks, Shin Ju Sushi.

I got their chirashi bowl which came with 2 pieces of salmon, white fish, tuna, hamachi, imitation crab, tomago. Nothing unique, lots of rice but it was warm. Comes with salad during lunch.

As others have said, classic example of «you get what you pay for». Got the $ 8 shrimp tempura lunch box. Included california rolls were barely edible, just old imitation crab and mushy cucumber. Everything else was ok. Biggest issue was the service, took about 30 minutes to get my food once i ordered. There is much better food in the area…

One star because at lunchtime I waited 50 minutes for the meal. Had to leave because it never came in time. Host reception and waitress service was way off. Felt like I was walking into an angry, anxious Chinese restaurant than a calm, pristine Japanese Sushi establishment. The staff was Chinese. To be clear my rating is only based on the service as the food was never presented.

Take out. Stale, all the crunchies stuck together. Fish didn’t taste right. Kani salad was stale as well. Will certainly not recommend. My fault for trying to save a few dollars, you get what you pay for.

You get what you pay for. Cheap lunch specials in a hole in the wall. Service is spotty especially during lunch hours and pricing is a bit inconsistent. For example, extra ginger dressing during a sit down meal wouldn’t be extra, but when I asked for it to go, they charged me an extra dollar for a tiny container.

We ran across Shin Ju Sushi while walking to Stone Street for dinner. I’m on a diet so sashimi is a better option than what the restaurants there would have to offer. The place was empty & had a B rating posted today. The sushi fish in the case was sparse but looked healthy so we decided to brave it. All in all, no complaints on the food. My sashimi was surprisingly plated very nicely & my friend seemed to love her two rolls. The service was OK considering we were the only two in there we got very little attention but the waitress was nice. It also took forever to get our food which was odd since there wasn’t anyone else there & my order was just raw fish and the rolls take but a couple of minutes to make. However, if you are not in a rush and just need a nice but cheap meal. This is a good alternative. I had two sashimi orders of fluke, two shrimp and an order of scallop. My friend had two rolls & we drank water. Our bill total was $ 20.20. So after tip we each paid $ 12.

I’m writing this review so that I remember to never order from here again. I was starving and I ordered the 3 roll lunch special for delivery from seamless. The boston roll, the salmon avocado, and the spicy tuna. All three rolls were really small and really mushy. They forgot the mayo in the boston roll. I paid $ 1 extra for crunch in the spicy tuna. They just sprinked bright orange, weird crunch very sloppily on top of the whole thing(it makes me think the nasty spicy tuna roll was pre-made). The avocado and the salmon were both overly ripe and smushy. The salmon was a dull color. All of the sushi seemed a little too warm, so if I get sick, I’ll update my review. I can’t find their DOH review on NYC’s website, which also makes me wonder.

As far as all you can eat sushi joints go, this one is pretty decent. While you don’t get the fancy rolls that are available on the menu, there are over a dozen rolls and pieces to choose from. Standard selections of course, but variety is nice. Service is fine. Our waitress went back and forth and was happy to keep giving us little postcards to fill out. She also kept filling up our water and sake(free with the sushi) without us asking. You’d think these things would be standard at restaurants, but it’s kind of amazing to me that they aren’t. This place does a lot of business at lunch and dinner, which means they go through a lot of fish, which keeps it relatively fresh. It’s obviously not as good as you’ll find at a nicer, more expensive place, but it does the trick. I’ll go back.

Even a three-star average for this place kinda amazes me. I’ve had delivery sushi from a lot of places in the Financial District, and Shinju had the least fresh fish out of all of them by a wide margin. Distinctly slimy and fishy-smelling, like it had been sitting out all day before being sliced and served – I did not risk finishing it. Delivery via seamless was none too swift either. Lots of alternatives in the area, avoid.

For all you sushi lovers in the FIDI area, Shin Ju Sushi has a decent lunch deal. I usually order their lunch special rolls. You will have 2 choices of any 2 rolls for $ 7.95 or any 3 rolls for $ 9.94. This is also served with Miso Soup or Salad. There are 25 types of rolls that range from Tuna to the Boston roll. My normal roll selections are the spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and salmon avocado roll. My one advice is that you call in your lunch. If you order there, you will be waiting for a very long time before you get your food. There’s nothing special about this place but a cheap lunch. So do not have high expectations.
