Silhouettes and Profiles

When we had a last minute crisis the ladies at Silhouettes and Profiles were there to help us out! My daughters Bat Mitzvah dress had been hemmed too short by the store’s seamstress. With only 2 days to go before the party a new dress was shipped overnight. But i wasnt taking a chance on the store again. S&P had done a beautiful job altering another dress so I called and they were very supportive and gracious to help us out, hemming a full ball gown in less than 24 hours! And they did a perfect job! I would absolutely return and recommend them highly to anyone in need of good alterations.

I dropped off an antique bedspread for repairs and was told it would take 1 – 2 weeks. A month later when I called to check up, I was told they were too busy with fashion week to do it. When I called again two weeks later, the person who answered the phone actually yelled at me and said my «old bed sheet» (her exact words) was «not important» and they’d repair it when they had time. A week later they called to say it was done. But it wasn’t. Instead of sewing it as promised, they’d put an ugly mismatching patch on it.

I’m simply obsessed with silhouettes & profiles. It’s not just the best alteration shop in town but the clothes they design and make is quite amazing as well.

I will forever be grateful for the team at Silhouettes and Profiles. They saved my wedding dress! The dress was being altered by another seamstress who did a terrible job (with 5 fittings!), and on the Tuesday of my wedding week I took it away from her. On Wednesday morning, I brought it to Silhouettes and Profiles. I was so upset that the dress was in bad shape that I cried as the ladies pinned me up. It would have been embarrassing, if the ladies hadn’t of been so kind! They asked me to come back at 5pm the same night. I did, and it fit perfectly! No shortcuts (like the other seamstress), just expert craftsmanship. I’ll continue to bring all of my alterations to them!

I brought my wedding gown in to Irene for some alterations and she did such a fantastic job. She has extensive knowledge of tailoring and fit! In a situation where most tailors would have just taken in the sides under the armpits, she removed part of the back zipper and pulled it in that way – so it wouldn’t be too tight under the arms. I had three fittings with her because my dress had many layers of tulle so we did hem, sides, straps, bustle, and she even made me a veil from scratch – purchasing the tulle on her own. You will pay a higher price for her service (and cash only) but they are so efficient, kind and knowledgeable. I felt completely assured from my first visit that the gown would fit me like a glove – and it did. Thank you Irene and Christina! I’ll certainly be back with other high-​end items.

Amazing the best tailors in the city have known them for 15 years. Excellent custom made clothing. And superb fixes when needed. And fast!

These ladies know what they are doing. I needed a bridesmaid dress altered… significantly altered since it was way too big for me. Initially, I had tried to get the alterations done at a dry cleaners, but soon realized that the alterations were too complicated for a regular tailor. I walked into Silhouettes and Profiles randomly since it was raining and this was the closest «dress alterer» on my google maps.
As soon as I came here, I changed into my dress and they knew exactly the alterations that were needed in order for it to be fixed. I didn’t have to direct them in any way. They made suggestions, I made a few additional requests and the dress was perfect when I tried it on 10 days later.
This place is expensive. Make sure you find out how much everything costs before you leave. I almost walked out after dropping off my dress… and then realized that I should probably ask the final amount. (FYI — it’s cash or check only!)
For basic alterations such as hemming, I still recommend going to a tailor at a dry cleaners since you will save money. For other more complicated alterations, however, I recommend coming here even though it is pricey.

I have been coming to Silhouettes & Profiles for 15 years. Why? Because they are THE BEST! Irene and her team have consistently transformed my clothes from ill-​fitting to fantastic. No matter where I’ve moved to I make it a point to head to S&P because I am confident that I will be more than happy.

These women are phenomenal! Not only are they sweet, but they are absolute masters at what they do. I have come in here several times with a rush and they have always tried to accommodate me. They also make their own clothing which is beautiful.

Went to silhouettes and profiles for my wedding dress alterations and had a fantastic experience! Very professional staff! Excellent attention to detail and to what I wanted. This place is my go to place in the city for all my alterations. They are always really helpful and creative and can work around a tight deadline. I love my dress i just got altered for a bridesmaid dress. They will always help you look your best!!! It is a hidden gem and i came out feeling fabulous!

I LOVE IRENE! I’ve been taking pieces to Silhouettes and Profiles for years and the work is always top notch. As someone who invests a lot of money in my clothing, I initially was looking for a place I could trust not to mess up irreplaceable items. I’ve had multiple dresses altered here and recently, I came in days before a major, high-​profile work event with MAJOR alterations needed on a dress I had bought over a year ago and never wore and decided that I HAD to wear it for THIS particular event… I had dropped 3 dresses sizes and I was swimming in it and took it in with a prayer that it could be altered in just a few days. I was initially told 2 weeks, but I guess Irene could see the despair on my face (or she recognized me as a longtime customer) and she said she’d come in early the next morning and do it herself. When I came back to pick it up, IT FIT LIKE A GLOVE. The women at Silhouettes and Profiles are extremely skilled and every item I’ve taken to them has been impeccably tailored and sometimes more flattering than the original fit/​design. They only take cash or checks — I don’t find them to be overpriced — I’d rather pay a little more to make sure a dress I paid hundreds of dollars for is properly altered. Some of the other reviews complained of rudeness — I’ve never experienced anything other than a polite friendliness — you don’t need them to be your friend, you need them to tailor your clothes, and that, they do well.

I seriously don’t understand these negative reviews.
I have been a customer for 10 years, and the only experience I’ve ever had has
been positive. To the person who wrote they are «rude» I can’t understand this.
Irina is the sweetest person I’ve ever met! More important is the quality of workmanship, in fact I would call what she does artistry.
I would like to specify that I am not Irina nor am I her colleague or friend, writing this.
Irina is so GIFTED, that the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM asked her to
fix and conserve and a Chanel gown from the 1930’s. for their Costume Institute. The Met owns the greatest collection of clothing of the 19^th and 20^th century. They they gave the job to IRINA.
She is the artist of alterations.

Rude and obnoxious!!! Stay away!

The ladies at Silhouettes and Profiles are great. They helped me alter and redesign my mother’s 1976-​vintage home-​sewn wedding dress over the past month, and the process was a breeze. Irene’s ideas for how to update the gown while staying true to the original design were brilliant. The ladies recut the neckline, redesigned the sleeves, let out some seams in the torso, added lace trim to add to the length (an inspired move – beautiful and easier/​cheaper than letting out the hem) and added a new bustle. Four visits in all, but totally worth it. I am so pleased with my dress, and the final bill was beyond reasonable.

I needed major alterations on a floor length bridesmaids gown that didn’t arrive until 2 weeks before the wedding. Not only were they able to get me in the same day I called, but were extremely friendly, professional, and made me feel at ease. Two fittings, and a week later, the dress was perfect! I will never go anywhere else for alterations, and highly recommend them.

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!
Granted, I’ve only been here once. I actually went to have the sleeves shortened on a coat. Now this wasn’t just any coat, it’s the coat my husband got me for our one-​year anniversary back in September and it is hands-​down the nicest (and priciest) coat I’ve ever owned. I was terrified to get it tailored! Let me tell you, though, S&P did right by me. The alteration is PERFECT, and I couldn’t be happier. I will definitely be returning there for all alterations on my most treasured items.
If you want to know how I chose S&P, I actually read an article online and found out that S&P did all of the alterations for the movie Black Swan. If it’s good enough for Natalie and Mila, I figured it was probably good enough for me!
Oh, and just so you know, they only take cash and checks. Not a big deal at all, but worth mentioning.

Sewing, especially correcting a finished garment, is not easy. The women at this company, however, altered my gown skillfully. Their work is not cheap, more like moderate to expensive, but I found the price spot-​on for their talent and location. Nice work, ladies! They turned my size 10 frock (a lined full-​length dress with train) into a perfectly fitted 6÷6÷10 (yes, a 6 on top-​waist and 10 at hips), taking in multiple seams, adjusting zippers, and trimming the extra length. The turnaround was 2 weeks, and yes, I paid for every little adjustment (extra work is still work, afterall), but it was worth it! FYI: I paid by check, maybe because CCs weren’t accepted… best to ask before you get started.

R had one of her jackets altered here, and they did a fantastic job. Give them a try.

I came here in need of a quick alteration for my bridesmaid dress. I called first and when I arrived they greeted me fast and knew who I was. I tried on the dress, asked them if they could correct the mistake and was out the door in no time!!!
This will definitely be the place to go when I am in need for alterations!!!
