Skin Spa – Midtown West

I’ve never been treated so unkind or so rudely by a masseuse. I actually got up and got dressed and left. I’ve been coming to 57^th street skin spa since it opened and skin spa for almost 5 years. Have a monthly membership and have always loved the people there. The unprofessional massage therapist name is Omar and trust me stay away! Terrible attitude and really negative vibes. Yeah, like I want to lay down for 90 min in the dark having this person seeth hate all over me. It was so obvious from hello this person had zero concern whatsoever in my comfort or happiness. Actually said to me «I don’t want to interact just remove your clothes and turn your phone off if you have not already»
NO thank you. Very sad. Was really looking forward to much needed massage.

I’ve been getting my Simply Swedish massage from Leah and she’s absolutely fantastic! This place is always very clean and the staff is also very nice. A great experience every time!

Barno is seriously amazing at everything she does including waxing. She will take her time and go above and beyond. I’m seriously tempted to stop going to my other (closer to home) waxing place just because of her.
I’m not crazy about the cancellation policy of this place, though. Fifty is a bit steep.

I have been to Diana a couple times for Brazilian, eyebrow and facial/​microderm. I normally go to the Midtown West location (where she sometimes works), but was happy to find out her main location is the Upper East Side location. She always makes me feel comfortable, even though I get nervous every time I have to get a wax. The front desk staff at both locations (Upper East & Midtown West) are also very helpful and patient with me when making appointments and helping to answer my questions. I think the Midtown West location looks nicer, but either location you should have a great experience. Sign up for their email blasts — they generally have a lot of last-​minute deals and sales that I usually take advantage of. Regardless, I will continue to go here. Thank you, Skin Spa!

If there was a zero star rate, I would definitely choose ZERO. Cause the customer service people is totally RUDE. Be careful about their groupon deals, there is a tiny word without any bold or underline saying «New Client». I got phone calls from them after groupon purchase and someone told me «Since you’ve been our location before, you are not considered as New Client». And that is not true. I further asked them to put any my visit history as proof. Lately, the lady come back to me, saying «Oh, even you never came to our location, you’ve been to other locations». That gave me a feeling like they never accurately define the New Client or had a clear policy. LIAR! I asked them to cancel and give me a compliant number, the lady impatiently said «you can simply go online for that». And you know what? They gave me a cancellation call one hour before my appointment. SO, DO NOT THAT SILLY AND CHEAP PLACE, THEY DON’T DESERVE THE PRICE, EVEN A PENNY.

So I started with a groupon and had an amazing experience with Ulyana! I got lucky! Im on my 5^th facial her now. I had a bad experience at Skin Spa Soho, where it was the same facial but half-​assed and the facialist kept pushing me to do services I had no interest in. I should not have cheated on Ulyana lol This location is so much better! Ulyana really listens to you and gets the job done while making my experience so relaxing. My skin is very congested so extractions are a must. Extractions are going to hurt anywhere you go but I cant handle the pain and she gets to every nook and craney. My skin always looks amazing after!

I love love love this place! The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I ran late to my last appointment, significantly late and the staff still serviced me in a shorter timespan like the full service time. They even made accommodations to my package so I wouldn’t lose money. Love them!

Since I first started going to Skin Spa, I’ve been very happy, and have recommended to friends. The masseuses and facialists are very professional, and the price point is perfect for my budget. I always buy a package, and have had new treatments, I might have not tried on my own.

First time customer here. Was going to purchase a groupon deal for a brazilian wax but they honored the same price in-​store. Ulyana was my waxer (hope I spelled her name correctly)…she was extremely pleasant and made me feel as at ease as one could be while getting a wax! Would recommend her and this spa! It was clean and very zen.

I just had a massage with Leah. She was amazing! She knew just how to work my knots out and still make it enjoyable. I’m looking forward to my new massage soon!

Bought a Groupon for a Swedish massage and purchased a 49 $ facial from the spa itself. Massage was okay, but don’t book a Swedish if you want any knots taken out, it’s literally just a soft rub. Tech was nice but I felt like I need to get another massage because it didn’t do anything for my knots. The facial was the main issue, as she didn’t ask me if I have any allergies or if I take any medications. she did the entire facial without telling me what she was using and or why. She told me my skin is in good condition, but then told me i should get microdermabrasion and a laser treatment next time? After the service she told me my skin is a little pink and I asked her if it was red and she said no just a little pink. I went to the bathroom and almost had a panic attack. My face looked like I had third degree burns. I put foundation over it and ran to the subway because I felt so self conscious.
Later that night I had a birthday dinner to attend and I took a shower and gently cleansed my face (like i told the technician I would) and put a organic toner on and my face blew up. All of the blood rushed to my face immediately and literally felt like a sunburn. You can see the outline of whatever she put on my face… white around my eyes and lips and red everywhere else.
I called the spa the next day, couldn’t get a hold of 57^th street location so I called soho. They told me they would tell the manager right away. 2 hours later I called back at the 57^th st location and the woman said «oh you’re Jackie yeah soho told us… the manager is off today and she hasn’t gotten back to us.» I asked her to go ask the tech what she used on my face and why it is so red like this the next day. After being on hold for a while Dylan (Assist manager) picked up and barely let me say a word. He told me she is in a service until 5:30 and he is leaving at 5:00… I told him I can email him photos right now (it was 4:45) and he continued to tell me «Okay send me the photos but don’t get your hopes up that someone will get back to you. Like I said I’m leaving at 5:00.»
OK what? I work in the hair/​spa industry… if you’re an assistant manager you can stay 30 minutes after you’re supposed to leave. or have the tech call me herself when she was done with the service. He responded to my email saying «ok thanks can you come in for a consultation tomorrow». How is this not at top concern? My face is burned and I still have yet to know what she used and why my skin is like this.
Worst facial experience ever and I’m thankful that I have an esthetician friend who was giving me advice on what to do so I didn’t freak out. And appalled at how the assistant manager handled things. I will never buy a groupon or any sort of deal on a facial again.
2 days after facial and all the blood rushes to my face if i cleanse it or if i use a toner. Literally looks and feels like a bad sunburn. All i can do is use moisturizer to take makeup off and to hydrate after the shower. If this doesn’t go away in a week I’m going to have to see a dermatologist.

I don’t usually write a review but this place getting hair removal saved my life !
also i had really good deal so unlike other friend paying a thousand money i saved so much money to get my under arms, legs and Brazilian ! it was fantastic !!
everyone was nice and professional as asian i have little thick hair and needed extra work but i had Susan who did all my treatment she was such a good job !!!(you know you don’t want to show your down there to many people and she’s professional so i always requested herl) i mean she took a time and extra effort to remove my strong hair after not even 6 sessions my underarm hair is gone totally i’m so happy about it. i was glad i did it before summer and still my under arms are so clean!
I might need little touch up for my legs but i recommended this place to my coworkers they all like Susan how she helped them. also if you never try facial here you should try it!

Good customer service, have been getting Brazilian laser hair removal with Susan. It’s taken more sessions than I would have liked but I’m happy with the progress. The further along in the sessions you go the more painful the laser, just a heads up.

Worst experience ever.
Went for a facial 1.5 weeks ago. The experience was painful and this lady was seriously rude. She didnt like my skin, said it multiple times lol, I mean who even says somthing like that ha?! I should have known better then already!
She said I had too many white-​and blackheads (welcome to life haha!) so she squeezed, with her bare hands, so hard, that she ripped parts of my skin. I told her to stop because it hurts and she said it was necessary as she couldnt do her job otherwise — whatever job that might be. After she had to stop she suggested a power feeling given she didnt manage to complete the extraction. Obviously she could make more money too, which we all know how they love doing that. Anyway, fine with me I agreed — I should have know better — she burnt my skin of course.
I went back two days later to complain and wrote to the headquarters, who never got back. Vanessa the manager saw me and had another skin therapist check my skin. It took her 1min, she wouldnt tell me what she thought and told Vanessa to give me a full refund — if that doesnt say it all!!!
You wouldnt believe what they tried to give me — a empty/​used bottle of serum «to put on the wounds» to hydrate them so it wont scare — A USED BOTTLE THAT WAS EMPTY! Well isnt that kind and sooo hygienic… I denied the oh so kind offer and said I want a new bottle, which is the least they could do.
Till this day I have not received a refund nor the serum.
I have called Vanessa the manager and she is waiting for her manager to approve the refund — which is BS. Seems I will have to stop by again in person to get what belongs to me.
This is just my experience, be warned, and if a lady starts telling you she doesnt like your skin — I learned my lesson LOL — RUN!

On my first visit I had a 10am facial and the facialist was 20 minutes late (Sunday subway traffic?) but somehow we finished on time (aka my facial was 20 minutes shorter than usual). Not a good first experience.
Definitely look up names here on who to book, who you book is everything.
I’ve come back several times since, I was gifted a package and have been happy if not thrilled with my service since my first appointment. The assistant manager Dylan is great at his job. The massage therapist Leah is so nice and really thorough. Barno is a great facialist and does very thorough extractions and peels. A great find in my neighborhood, they always have deals, just make sure you’ve done research on who you book.

My laser technician is Susan. She is very professional and thorough.
Ive heard some terrible stories about bad experiences with laser so I must’ve asked a million questions but she is very patient and makes me feel comfortable. I’m seeing great results and barely have to shave after just 3 treatments.
I just recently had my first facial here and Toota did an excellent job cleaning out all my blackheads. My skin never felt so clean! The extractions were a bit uncomfortable but the results are worth it.
Looking forward to my next visit.

I bought a laser package on gilt for 6 sessions. This a review of my session last night (¹²⁄₁₆) with Susan.
Showed up at 6:50 for what i thought was a 6:45pm appointment. Apparently I had written down the time wrong because they informed me my appointment was at 630pm. I apologized profusely as it was an honest mistake. They told me I did not have time to do my full appointment (legs, Brazilian & underarms) so I opted for just Brazilian & underarms without complaint — as I said it was my mistake for getting the time wrong. Seriously, my bad.
Susan was completely rude from the get go. When i saw her I AGAIN apologized for being late and told her I thought my appointment was at 645. Her response: a gruff «oh.» She didn’t say one word to me the whole time and was rude from the start. She took me in the room at 6:55pm and I was done in 10 minutes. I timed it. She did both Brazilian and underarms and when she was done she literally THREW a towel at me and left the room. I still can’t believe she acted that way. I was in shock as i was getting dressed and then i started getting pissed. Yes it was a gilt deal but I still paid a lot of money to be there. Laser isn’t cheap and it’s not that easy to pay that much up front.
Anyways, it was 7:10pm when i went to checkout. I asked the receptionist how long they usually allocate for the 3 services i had booked. She told me they give AN HOUR AND 45 MINUTES. So by that Susan had another HOUR and 5 MINUTES in which she could have done my legs. Clearly if she could zip through the Brazilian and underarms in 10 minutes, an hour and 5 minutes was more than enough time to do my legs? Is it necessary to be so rude? When i pointed this out to the receptionist stared at me blankly then said that each technician works at a different speed. Correct, I said. And Susan is clearly one of the faster ones. Blank stare again.
And THEN she asked me to tip. $ 40 – 65 tip (let’s not even get started on their ridiculous tipping standards). You really think I’m going to give that for 10 minutes of such rude behavior? I said i would get her next time and walked out. The only thing I feel bad about is the poor girl behind me waiting to pay that had to listen to this awkward interaction.
The thing is, I was completely fine with not being able to do all 3 areas. I get that i was late (even though it was a mistake) and i am fine making a new appointment. However the rude attitudes really sent me over the edge. i can NOT believe how rude both Susan and the receptionist were.
I’ve been calling and trying to talk to the manager and surprise surprise — getting rude attitude from the receptionist. Clearly she knows I’m calling to complain…

First visit here, waiting room is not crowded and they provide sparkling wine, water etc. Staff at front desk is nice, location is good. I had a Brazilian wax with Teuta, friendly and good bedside manner. I took a star off as I have to wait 25 mins, they told me it is unusual but again, when I stepped it the front desk told me it won’t be more than 10mins wait, so 25mins is stretching my patience but overall I like Teuta and her work, not her fault.

So I started going to Skin Spa back in March for laser hair removal. On my very first appointment, I had scheduled it @ the Midtown location but was going to Chelsea. I had just moved to Jersey at that point and didn’t know the city very well.
So I showed up to Flatiron on time and they couldn’t find my appointment. At this point we realized I had scheduled it @ Midtown, but they said it wasn’t a problem. I was charged the $ 50 fee for not showing up to Midtown.
So I called and the guy said yep, no problem, we’ll refund you. That was back in April.
So 4 weeks later when I went back, I still hadn’t been refunded. I told the manager there. She said, no problem, we’ll reach out to corporate and get you a refund.
And then nothing.
So my next appointment 4 weeks later, I bring it up again, she says sure let me make a note of it and we’ll get you a refund.
And then again. Nothing.
And so I’m sure you can see a pattern. I brought it up all 6 appointments I had for my laser hair removal. I was told by every single person no problem we’ll get you that refund. I was told there was already notes in my file about it. Every single time.
I called TWICE. so I brought it up in 6 appointments and 2 phone calls. Same thing.
I sent an email two weeks ago. No response. Sent another email 3 days later at least asking them to acknowledge me? No response.
How the hell is it taking them over half a year to give me back $ 50. This is ridiculous. I’m 21 and work a ton so $ 50 is way more to me than it is to this overpriced spa.
Maybe 6 in person complaints, 2 phone calls, 2 emails and a Unilocal review on every single location will finally get someone to stop BSing me.

I had a groupon which I had tried to use a groupon on March 15 at 12:00pm. I showed up but the masseuse didn’t. No call or anything. I rescheduled the appointment on line. I had been to skin spa about two years before and had an acct. I accidently made the appt for 44 th st. And wasn’t told until after my massage tht the groupon was for 57 th st only. Fine. I remade my appt for 57 th st online and in the comment section I put down that I had a groupon. After my massage today I was told that groupons are for new clients only and was charged an additional 34 $. There were three chances for you to tell me I wasn’t able to use this groupon. 3. Instead I was told its my responsibility to read the fine print! Not very good customer service.
