Slice West Village

Pretty horrible pizza and expensive. Our pizza was also delivered mashed up (but they did replace it without quibble, which was nice so they get two stars). When the pizza delivery guy came with the replacement he demanded the first pizza back –bit weird as we had eaten half of it because we waited an hour and would even eat a dog’s dinner at that stage, and thrown half in the bin because it was just too mashed up.

This is our second visit to Slice (now Wild)– We first visited back in December and had an amazing experience. In December we were able to order whole wheat crust (no longer available) and the $ 26 pizza’s covered the entire tray (not even half the tray covered last weekend– for the same $ 26!!!). We ordered 7 Pizzas due to the offerings being so small compared to December where we only needed 4. The quality was equal to the old owners, but if they are going to charge West Village prices they better offer more value. I «MIGHT» try again in the late spring when I can see if they have decided to step up their game. Hey WILD– Take a page from Slices play book and charge a fair price for what you are offering.
BTW– The mushroom and white truffle pizza are amazing!

I was looking for a place to get a decent pizza and a glass of wine and I chose Slice because I saw they offered vegan cheese as an option. The restaurant was small but cozy. There was only one other family in the dining room, but it was a Sunday evening and it looked like the restaurant does a pretty good delivery business as I continually saw the delivery guy in and out of the place. I ordered the Advanced Mushroom pizza with vegan mozzarella cheese. It was amazing! The mushrooms used on the pizza were sauteed and the crust was super thin. I have never had a pizza like this before. I also ordered a glass of cab which unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of. It paired perfectly with the pizza.
The service was great. The food came quickly and even though I was the only person in the place (after the family left) the waitress didn’t hover over me. I am excited for my next trip to NYC to visit again!

I read about this place on NY Times list of gluten-​free joints to try in the city.
When we showed up the place looked deserted, with no one outside and minimal activity inside. We walked up to the door peaked in and it took about 5 mins for someone to approach us as if they were afraid to seat us. We opted to sit outside since it was a semi-​nice day and because the inside is a bit small and stuffy.
The waitress was a bit awkward, fumbling with the table settings and didn’t know the menu that well. I double checked with her about the gluten free options and whether or not they had dairy in them; she wasn’t too sure but was nice enough to check.

It took awhile for the waitress to come back after our order. She forgot to bring water for our glasses twice before we asked her if she could get us some.
Pizza came out shortly after and it was pretty disappointing. I guess because I didn’t order cheese on my pizza that it causes it to be drier than normal but to be honest, the gluten-​free flour/​dough they used was so thin that it came out like tortilla chips with loose toppings on top. The «chip» slices fell apart when I tried to yank them off the giant metal sheets they serve it on. Everything was pretty dry and tasteless.
My gf got normal pizza and it looked somewhat appetizing. However, she ordered slice eggplant on hers and that’s not what they gave her. It was some sort of mix veggies pie with extra cheese. At that point we just wanted to get out of there so we didn’t complain (I guess shame on us).
With their prices, I probably wouldn’t go back.

I have been here a couple times on different occasions and had a great time at every visit. They have a great assortment of local brews and wines; I’ve tried a different one every time and they all were refreshing and different! When it comes to pizza, I have a specific favorite, I usually get the «MIKI» whenever I go which has pesto, chicken, goat cheese, and fresh tomatoes. Talk about great pizza that’s actually GOOD for you.
Another great thing about this place; everything is fresh and comes from local farmers (hard to come by being in NYC). The people that work there are also all friendly to talk to and I always have my glass filled, no problems.
A couple friends of mine have taken their pizza making class and say it’s one of the best!
Everything about this place is awesome; I encourage everyone to try it at least once.

My wife & I went to Slice today for lunch, and I would *not* recommend it.
Don’t be deceived by the really nice exterior. Despite being empty it took a while for the waiter to seat us, and even longer before he came back to take our order.
The pizza took at least 45 minutes to arrive after we’d ordered (despite the place being mostly empty). When it finally did arrive, the pizza was pretty average… other Unilocalers have covered it well… it’s very meh. I wish I’d read the other reviews before visiting.
But the worst bit was when the check came the server had taken it unto himself to add 20% gratuity for his «service» (of our table for 2). When I asked why, he said «that it is house policy to add 20% to all checks for service».
It’s probably no surprise that I won’t be going back.

Worst pizza in the West Village, wait was super long and it was empty, the staff is curt. I don’t mind waiting if it’s good but the crust was pre-​made, then layered with toppings & cheese then melted. No sauce & tasteless. I’m sure there’s even better frozen pizza at Dags or Whole Foods. Don’t waste your 8 bucks (slice) for this overpriced crap!

Stumbled into this place after a massive fail trying to go to red farm. Pizza is eh. A Good craft beer selection is there only real positive. Had the veggie antipasti with mozz. Veggies were good, mozzarella was bad.
Not really any reason to go here.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE!
While the idea is great and the pizza is decent, the service and delivery is terrible. When you go there, they can’t seem to get an order right even if you are the only customer in the place. When you order delivery, food takes well over an hour at non-​peak times and delivery guys cannot follow very simple directions. They repeatedly screw things up and don’t offer to do anything for their mistakes. It’s unfortunate because the idea of healthy pizza is great… I wish someone would do an overhaul of the staff!

Not much to say beyond a hearty «meh.» Service was friendly and fine, outdoor café seating lovely. Several pizza varieties were sampled between 5 of us, no real winners. Nothing sucked, but most of it came across as mediocre. Slices that sounded intriguing (Master Mushroom, The Bomb) were pedestrian at best, boasting nothing unique or compelling in the way of flavor and a truly blah marinara base.
A good beer list and a selection of Boylan sodas are definite pluses, as is the laid-​back vibe (although we waited a good 30 minutes between ordering and being served).
Sadly, I’d have no real reason to recommend it and certainly wouldn’t go back unless it was the only option in the neighborhood (and it definitely isn’t!)

Slice is a fantastic restaurant with the perfect mix of delicious food, helpful service and great location! I ate here for the first time the other day; and both my boyfriend and I were very happy. We ordered the Intermediate Goat Cheese (whole wheat crust with marinera, caramelized mushrooms, and arugula tossed in lemon mustard vinaigrette). I’m vegan so we bypassed the goat cheese, and still the pizza was terrific! We also loved the edamame hummus. The restaurant was busy, but our server was attentive and so patient and helpful when we couldn’t make up our minds about what to order. I love how the restaurant offers delicious and healthy pizza to fit any diet (vegan, gluten free, omnivore, etc). I only wish there was a location on the UWS!
I’ll certainly be eating here again soon :)

I would actually describe the pizza here as bad. It’s heavy on the bread and doesn’t include much sauce. I also think the pizza was expensive.

This was the most disappointing experience. The food is overpriced and makes a bad name for vegetarian and organic. The personal pizzas were very skimpy. I can only compare their honey wheat crust to the experience of eating matzoh or thin toasted pita. My wife had chicken sausage that was practically non existent. You’d need a microscope to find the crumble of sausage. My eggplant had such thin slices of eggplant and a few olives. For what they charge the pizza
should be plentiful. The flavors should speak. And the long wait! Both of us were with stomach aches and no energy after this miserable «organic» meal. And to charge more for vegan cheese and nongluten crust when your prices are already high. Don’t waste your time and money going to this place

long story short. If you have a legit allergy to gluten, treat yourself right. This place sucks. The employees are nasty. The pizza isn’t all that great. There are so many other alternatives that taste a hundred times better.
I wouldn’t go back unless I was absolutely starving.

The full story — showed up around 7 on a Wednesday as a party of three. We were seated by a somewhat hipster-​ish waiter who gave us menus promptly and then just kind of disappeared. This is a small place but he was amazing in his ability to avoid contact of any kind with our table. After waving him down to order a bottle of wine after about ten minutes of being seated, we had to flag him down ten minutes later to order food.
When the pizzas finally arrived, we noticed they gave one of us the wrong pizza. We were starving at that point and ate anyway. The verdict on the pizzas, once they finally arrived? Yeah, I’m all about thin-​crust pizza, but this crust was so thin it was almost like a cracker. And the cheese, though it is all natural/​organic, was sloppily melted on. There was wayyy too much cheese on such a cracker-​y crust. It was, in essence, a glorified cracker pizza. Could have made that in my own toaster at home. At least the bottle of Finger Lakes Cabernet Franc was pretty good…
And then there was the nearly impossible task of getting our check. The waiter had maybe five other parties to tend to between the small indoor seating area and the outside tables. Not a huge deal, right? Apparently he was really busy and totally avoided us — weaving in and out of tables, looking the other way — COMPLETELY ignoring our presence. I finally waved the check in the air with the credit card in hand to get him to take our bill so we could get out of there. I’m not sure why everything took so long if there were only a few other parties dining.
Overall, a mediocre experience for the taste buds and displeasing service. Next time if I wanna be healthy I’ll try Z Pizza on Bleecker, or just go big and eat at Keste. Now THAT is worth my time and money!

I haven’t managed to get over to their west village outpost yet, however I was lucky enough to taste their delicious pesto vegan pizza at the Unilocal Country Club event this past Monday. It is really excellent stuff. Reminds me a bit of Sullivan Street Bakery’s vegan pies. Really tasty flatbread with olive oil and pesto. I’m sure there were other delicious ingredients in there as well, though I can’t name them.
My advice to you, vegan or not is get your a$$ over there and try them.
You won’t be disappointed.

So I heard about this place from my coworker and decided to meet a friend here for afterwork dining.
I got the mushroom pizza and added caramelized onions. I think I made a super good choice adding caramelized onions because it hit the spot. Totally forgot what my dining partner ordered but she added goat cheese and loved it. We both thought the food was healthy and left us satisfied vs. wanting to lie down — so kudos to slice on achieving that goal!
The west village venue is really cute and on one of my favorite streets in ny. We sat by the window, which was wide open.
I took a star off because you can only order bottled drinks and they aren’t my favorite.

We ordered same thing again but they didn’t deliver the quality we loved unfortunately.
The Miki — the basil pesto was not fresh so as the tomato.
The Buru — the marinara sauce was not tasty as I remembered.
I guess it is a life having ups and downs???

Slice, the perfect food opens up its second new location in West Village about a week ago. It is warmly welcomed!
Their pizzas & salads contain ingredients like whole wheat, organic, gluten free, vegan, all natural… you name it. Their cookies & brownies are vegan as well. Get where I’m going with this?
You can order individual slices or whole 20″ pies. I ordered my pizza to go… and tried a slice of their novice pesto, herb crusted atop with sun dried tomatoes, pesto, mozzarella, the slice itself was conveniently cut into 4 little triangles. It was absolutely delicious. It’s a gourmet pizza, so this cannot be compared to a traditional thin slice greesy pizza you find elsewhere in NYC. It’s a slice of pizza you can feel good about eating. They have some innovative toppings and I want to come back soon the next time around to try the «intermediate», with honey whole wheat crust, marinara, caramelized onions, arugula and goat cheese!
It’s a cute little joint, appropriate for parties of 4 or under. The service seems a bit disjointed but it just looks like they need to adjust and get use to (really quickly). I like the bar seating best, so it’s time to grab a friend and get to it. Take a new perspective on eating pizza, because it’s a new health-​nutty way to eat.
For a $ 20 dinner special night, you get an appetizer, a slice of pizza and two glasses of organic wine and your choice of brownie or a cookie. Stellar deal. Not sure if it’s applicable to the West Village location but it doesn’t hurt to ask?
