The 5,000 square foot, three-level spa blends contemporary style with modern French influences in an open and airy space lit by a combination of natural and custom lighting. Sothys houses an inviting retail/reception area, one-of-a-kind hydrotherapy room with a skylight and a café modeled after a French Bistro where clients can enjoy a beverage or light lunch.

Our estheticians are trained by estheticians from the Sothys Institut de Beaute in Paris and are the ultimate experts in the Sothys technique, giving the New York spa the utmost authenticity.

History

Established in 2005.

In 1946, Sothys was a beauty institute in Paris, where a list of exclusive customers enjoyed fine French products created by Dr. Hotz, a medical biologist. Sothys was acquired by the Mas family in 1966 and chairman Bernard Mas decided to add to the Sothys range and increase its availability. By 1970 Sothys had entered the United States market under the direction of esthetician Christian Garces. Sothys became an instant hit for estheticians looking for a professional, results-oriented product line. Over four decades later, we continue to be one of the forerunners in an extremely demanding industry.

In 2005, under the direction of Christian Garces Sothys USA opened its flagship store in the heart of midtown Manhattan.

When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly woman sitting in the front. Yes, the locker room is small, but it’s really not so bad… I guess because there weren’t too many people in there. The facility is very clean and the bathroom is clean and I changed in there instead of changing where other people can see me. Janna did my facial. She definitely asked me what my problem area was and was very attentive to seeing if I was comfortable and OK during the process, plus she did not speak too much, which made me enjoy my time more. However, she definitely could have done more extractions. I know it is spa week so they probably feel like people who come to spa week just don’t want to pay the full price and come back once and then Don’t come again, but that wasn’t the case and me. I would have came again but I felt like it wasn’t a superb experience. I think Janna is very nice but I felt more extractions could’ve been done.

Came 10 mins early as requested and waited around 10 minutes past my appointment time. Receptionist was nice, but neglected to ask if I wanted coffee, even though she asked all the other waiting guests. The women’s changing room is, as other reviewers say, very small. I had a European facial with Janna and it was a very relaxing session. She asked me what type of concerns I had and what type of products I currently used. She was attentive, always asking if the steam temp was too hot or if I was cold. I only half wish she did more extractions, but sort of glad she didn’t because it was so painful. She was very efficient though. She also recommended me a product for my skin type, which felt nice, but I eventually passed on. Downside, I wish the hand massage lasted a little longer than a couple of minutes before she put the mitts on. Overall, it was a nice experience and I will definitely come back again for a facial with Janna.

Enjoy an excellent facial with Janna who was very knowledgeable. My skin looked great and I was very relaxed. Rose did a great pedicure. Very meticulous and relaxing. Can’t wait to return. Barbara the receptionist couldn’t have been nicer!!! Everyone as very professional and nice.

Jasmine is an exceptional masseuse and very professional (respectful). By exceptional I mean that her massage style is one of a kind in a great way, in the sense that she adds a little touch of her own inspiration to everything she does, and you’ll notice it.
Onto Janna for my facial, today. Janna has a ginormous heart. I’ll say it again… Janna has a GINORMOUS heart. She cares about you the minute you walk in. We need more people like that.

I had a very disappointed unsatisfied experience at this business. It’s a total waste of my money and time. Today I had the top worst spa in my life. I arrived right on time for my 5:00pm appointment. By the time I changed clothes in the small narrow no privacy locker room it’s a little bit over 5:00pm. I was greeted by an old big tall lady, she does not speak english well but it’s ok if she can keep quiet and let me to relax. Well instead, she nonstop asking me personal information the whole time and trying to be funny with her broken english. Once we got in the room, I was rushed the whole way through. She told me because I was late she will cut my spa time short. By the way, the price I paid is double the standard NYC 60mins massage. Her massage skills is untrained and she doesn’t know what she is doing. It’s either she punched me everywhere in my body to hurt me or light touch with no pressure. Her attitude is careless and casual. It’s inattentive and rough service. I recall this massage experience is like a joke. I can say she has no knowledge of acupressure at all. Or she doesn’t want to labor by giving pressure. Why I paid $$$ in a cold day to this fancy ambiance place to get light touch or caress? I told her from the beginning I’ve been having this shoulder pain that needs to take care of. She didn’t listen or give special care. She is friendly but whole time her service is lousy, it’s not a proper trained massage and I felt rushed through to get over. She is unskilled and should stay home. She finished my service by 5:55pm. So total I only got 45mins service.

Loved my facial with Janna! I’ve had plenty of painful deep cleaning facials. She was so light yet effective. My face looks and feels clean without the red irritation. The price is also right.

I went here a few years ago with my best friend, and I still remember this place. I had a package at the time for a facial and one hour massage. Oh my goodness, I felt like i was a queen when I walked in from all the décor. I wasn’t expecting how luxurious it felt walking in.
So when you get there and check in, you place your stuff in a locker, and don a robe. There is a small waiting area that I was drinking a flavored water with a friend. They called us for our massage shortly after. At that time my shoulder was somehow very sore at the time, and the lady who took care of me at the time worked a miracle. I have neck herniation at that time, and she was very accomodating. The facial was nice, but it didn’t leave as big as an impact as the massage did (that i’m able to recall it later). My skin although is in nice shape can be sensitive, but i had no reaction to what they used if that helped. They did try to offer us to buy a product for our skin afterwards, but we turned it down.
Go try out lifebooker and see if you can get a deal. Opt for the massage if you can. There really isn’t a relaxation room perk as other places i went, but good for a massage and some water/tea.

I decided to try Sothys Spa during the spa week and booked my European facial. As soon as I arrived a few minutes earlier (as recommended) I was greeted by wonderful reception staff. I was then taken to the locker room (as many already mentioned its rather small, so more than 2 people is a crowd) otherwise room is very clean and offers a few complimentary products to try or use at any time. My esthetician Iwona was very pleasant and gentle. While she was chatty at moments she refrained from conversation during relaxing stages of facial to allow for a resting experience which I greatly appreciate. At all times she asked if I felt comfortable and never appeared rushed. I wish she did a more merciless job on extractions though:)
Overall a very pleasant relaxing experience.

Great experience from the beginning to the end!
Soon as you enter, the décor, the music just soothes you. The receptionist was very welcoming and efficient. I checked in and was surprised to see a discount. She applied the discount to my appointment as well as my friends (it’s the little things).
We were then taken to the locker loom so we could lock up our belongings and change into our robes. Only problem I had, was that the area was very small. Can’t imagine if it gets busy.
Had my pedicure first, which was divine. Not a lot of colors but didn’t make a difference to me. They had my light grey!
I forgot my technician’s name but she room her time and was very friendly.
Next was my facial/massage …THE ABSOLUTE BEST PART!!!
Iwana (spelling) did an amazing job. She gave tips on my skin care for the future, explained the products and took her time. I didn’t feel rushed or abused.
Next time I’m in NY, I will def stop by!

Booked an appointment on lifebooker for a partial Brazilian, called ahead to say I would be 5 minutes late, and had the desk associate tell me «it better not be more than 5 minutes».
She calls me as I am walking to the spa to tell me that my aesthetician will only have time for a bikini and that they will honor my slot.
I agree, understanding that I am in the wrong for being delayed.
The waxer Janna was polite, professional, and took good care in providing me with a bikini wax in 15 minutes.
When I returned to the desk to pay I was charged for a partial Brazilian, I explained politely that what I got was a bikini wax and the associates confirmed with one another that «no, Janna gave you a partial Brazilian»…I didn’t want to argue with them but I thought it was unfair that they made it seem like it was my misunderstanding about the service I received. I had my briefs on for the duration of the service and only laid on my back… it wasn’t a partial Brazilian. Charge me what you want but don’t treat me like my expectations were met after the fact when I know what the service should entail.

My daughter and I both had massages today. The ambiance was perfect, clean and smelled nice. The staff was very friendly which why it makes me sad to give this rating. The massage was literally the worst massage we had ever had, no exaggerating. The massage lacked pressure and she massaged us both with the towel and sheet more than she actually touched our skin. We had just showered! Maybe a different therapist if I go back.

I always have an excellent experience when I go to Sothys for my facials! Jana has been caring for my face for years, and I get compliments daily on how great it looks. I always carry extra Sothy business cards in bag for when I get stopped and asked where I go. Barbara, who’s usually at the front desk when I arrive, is always welcoming and pleasant. It’s truly a pleasure going to Sothys, and I highly recommend it!

Recently my boyfriend and I side used to have a little relaxing day in the city. Sothy’s is located one block from the park and the plaza hotel, and all the beautiful shops. So we decided to get massages then walk to park and go shopping.
On Unilocal you get linked to «lifebooker» for appointments and the massage is 30% off! So for a $ 115 50 min massage we got it for $ 80, which is an amazing deal
Budget friendly and beautiful this spa had a nice welcome area, a tea room and a changing room.
I would have definitely liked to see more spa amenities like a sauna and a hot tub for the women section and the men’s section but it’s not an all day spa.
My masseuse was Simona, she was very good and got the knots out of my neck.
Will be coming back for more services.

Had a much needed massage at Sothys… here are my thoughts:
– Ambiance is great. The facility is spotless and organized but admittedly bare bones… don’t come expecting a place where you can relax before or after. I was completely fine with the small locker room (as opposed to other Unilocalers) but I was there early so it wasn’t busy.
– Temperature control is terrible here. The room was gigantic and absolutely freezing. The lady doing my massage turned on heaters but it made no difference. I couldn’t focus on anything but how cold I was. Having a Jacuzzi in the same room was odd, to say the least.
– Aside from the temperature, the massage itself was okay although pressure was lacking.
Overall: I won’t return here because I can get a much better massage in midtown at less than half the price. And I won’t be shivering while getting it!

Treated myself and my mom to a spa week special at Sothy’s Spa. Upon entering we were treated by the super friendly staff who showered us with compliments. The staff informed us that the ladies locker room was full and she would place us in the men’s locker room. After a private chat with a manager we were instead brought to their cafeteria and was served tea and Cookies. The confusion didn’t add to the overall spa experience I was expecting. Facial was relaxing but the lady wasn’t informative about my skin.

For a 70 degree day it was rather warm inside the facility.
The locker rooms are super small so not good for girls spa day

This Spa is really huge. Every time I come here, I wonder how they can afford such enormous space in the very center of Manhattan! The place is nice, but it feels a little inpersonal and empty. I like Iwona for facials, but it will be my last Spa week experience with them, as the service seemed rushed.

I cashed in on a LifeBooker deal and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and service at Sothys’. Great mid-town location with a peaceful and serene environment. My massage was soothing and relaxing, I left Sothys on cloud nine, I would definitely go back and would not mind paying full price for their pampering services.

Here’s the thing with spas. You go to them to relax, to indulge, to be pampered. You don’t go to be lectured.
I came to Sothy’s for a body scrub and massage. I had the same woman for both, and while she was nice enough, she would not stop talking about my body. She kept advising me on how to take better care of my skin, how to moisturize, how to avoid tension in my shoulder muscles, etc, etc. If that weren’t distracting enough, the advice was also bad. Telling me I should take a dip in the ocean once a month? Um… how? Or advising me to bathe in tea? WTF? I finally had to tell her as nicely as possible that I would prefer not to speak. She did stop, then, but the experience was more of less soured for me.
It’s unfortunate too, since Sothy’s is not only beautiful and luxurious, it’s super convenient to me. But with so many other spa options in the city, I just don’t see the point in coming back here for the same subpar experience.

I went to Sothys for the first time yesterday for a European facial. I had an excellent experience with Vera. Tip– book your appointment on
which has a nice discount on their facials. Vera was very personable and gave me a lot of helpful information about my skin type and tips. The spa is very luxurious and the receptionist was very friendly. I will definitely go back for Vera– and again go to
for a cheaper rate on their services. Also– they only accept tips in cash– I had to run to the ATM and come back.

Wow wow wow! This place is absolutely magical! Got the cherry blossom body treatment and the full body massage and I am a brand new person. The service is absolutely wonderful, they constantly offer you beverages of your choice and want to make sure you feel happy relaxed and at peace. I had to buy a few products because I just couldn’t resist! I only wish they had one in Miami. I may just come back to New York or head to Paris just for this place!

This place is always great but I thought I’d relay a story to you.
I scheduled a facial here for this morning through Lifebooker. When I got there everyone was incredibly polite and friendly and I enjoyed a nice cup of green tea after coming in from the cold. Anyway, my specialist was delayed by the trains and I had to wait about 40 minutes. No problems, but they key was the manager kept checking on me to see if I needed anything and then comped me the facial. I thought that was over the top great customer service — something we have seen decrease in many retail stores despite the recession. I’m just a regular customer who gets a few facials a year but they treated me like a VIP. It’s not needed but I really appreciated that.
BTW, the facial was great. Albina was very attentive and I’ll make sure to ask for her again. I’m also so pleased by this experience that I’m likely to give Sothy’s even more business than usual.

I had a package from Gilt I wanted to use for my birthday, brought the hubby along for a massage as well. The space is lovely, bright and very clean. There was a bit of an issue with my service (you need a doctor’s note to receive a massage service if you are pregnant-now I know!) so they were nice enough to give my husband the massage portion of my package which worked out fine.
The facial was nice. Not life changing, but nice. No skin-shamming or heavy product pushing and the accompanying massage was awesome.
The ***only*** thing (and I think I’m echoing this from previous reviews) is the locker rooms. For as nice as the facilities are (not to mention the prices of the services) the locker rooms are itty bitty, i.e. one toilet for all to share. My husband commented that the UPS guy was in his locker room using the one bathroom… I’ll leave it at that! That said, I would return (with another deal) in the future.

My mom and I had a massage here today for Spa Week. Simona did our massages and she did a nice job. She made sure we were comfortable the whole time. The spa itself felt elegant and clean which was a treat.
A few things could be improved:
–They had only one masseuse. Wish my mom and I could have had one at the same time. The receptionist suggested that I change and have a drink in the «café.» However this left me pretty cold because I was in a robe sitting having tea for an hour waiting for my massage. I would suggest keeping your clothes on until you’re about to go in for your massage.
–I wish they changed the café into a room with dim lighting and beds to lay on. I’ve been to other spas like Red Door where they have this type of relaxation room while you can wait and it is a nice touch.
–Changing room was so small so people were getting in each other’s way.
–The massage room was cold and the room was pretty bright due to the skylight.
