Mary is great! I went in for a deep tissue! I will be going back! Very bare bones but those are always the best massage places. As a former athlete and dancer, I have injuries and my muscles are solid. She gave me a true deep tissue!

Had a deep tissue massage here. By far the worst experience I have ever had getting a massage. The massage rooms are basically multi-​purpose classrooms, with white-​boards and chairs and bright fluorescent lights. The massage therapist brings her own speakers and iphone in the room playing pandora (free version), so there are commercials every 10 minutes about various dating sites, etc. The massage itself was also not relaxing whatsoever. The therapist seemed angry the entire time and nothing about it felt good. In fact, I think i’m more stressed and in more pain after the treatment. Considering the prices aren’t that competitive, avoid this place at all costs.

HORRIBLE… I called to make an appointment, I ask a few questions and the lady says to me,’ you want an appointment or what.” like an idiot I went anyway. The massage was horrible it was like someone squeezing random spots and punching. ohhhh… it was someone squeezing random spots and punching.
stay away to many other places to waste your time with this.

Stay far far away from this place if you’re looking for a strong massage!
Like Gingere, I purchased the massage/​reflexology deal from Groupon for me and my boyfriend. It was the most awkward experience because the ladies working on us were barely working. They did not apply any pressure even though we requested them to throughout the massage. They also did not seem properly trained…

This place is a scam. I went here for a deep Tissue massage and the woman who gave me the massage had no idea what she was doing. She essentially gave me a backrub with some pastey material that did nothing to alleviate the rub. I also wasn’t told that the deep tissue massage was more expensive than the Swedish massage so I switched from the Swedish to the Deep Tissue and was charged an additional 15 for the different services. Totally HORRIBLE Experience. I should have had known that what you pay for is what you get.

I think its safe to say every girl in Manhattan is always looking for her go-​to when it comes to beauty services. I went and got a wax from her — she could not have been more meticulous with the whole process. She did a very good job, and was well educated. I LOVE beauty experts who are very knowledgeable in their fields and are willing to share what they know. Very friendly as well. I will be surely going back to her!
The place itself isn’t ‘high — end’ per say, but I’d rather pay for talent and a job well done than fancy decorations and expensive tile and paint. Plus, it was über quiet inside which I appreciated.

Spring Thyme Day Spa is NOT a luxury spa with fancy amenities. However, it is a place worth going to for an effective massage at a reasonable price (they often run promos on their own website or Groupon). Unlike some of the other more «bare bones» massage places in Lower Manhattan, you 1) receive polite, friendly service, 2) get a private room, and 3) don’t leave feel like you were just beaten up. You will however leave feeling relaxed and without any of the tension or knots you went in with.
(Note: The main reason for losing one star is that my husband and I had to wait 20 minutes past our appointment time, which is a pet peeve of mine.)

Went in here 41 weeks pregnant and really wanted to get labor moving along. Dr Li used just 6 needles in our session and a treatment on some pressure points on my feet. Whatever he did sure worked, I went into labor that same night. Active labor was only 4 hours. Another plus is that he takes insurance. Ignore the simple furnishings and lack of ambience. If you want treatment that is no fuss but works come here.

I came here because it was really close to my office when I worked in the FiDi and they’re open late — so I was able to go after work.
The reviews were mostly positive, but I still wasn’t sure… So I am hoping that this review will put things intro perspective for first timers.
When I go to a salon /​spa /​hole in a wall to get a massage, I have some pretty basic expectations that I look out for:
1) the bathroom cleanliness
2) the overall cleanliness
3) the technique (and the massage therapist)
4) the environment
5) front desk, attitude, friendliness, etc.
Here is how Spring Thyme scored:
1) The bathroom is shared with the floor, it’s awful — it smelled and was extremely dirty — 0 stars
2) The «spa» was not clean by any means: dust & hair were present everywhere; the sheets on the message table were stained with something (I am going to hope it’s massage oil) — I had to ask them to change it before I got on it — 0 stars
3) The technique was OK — not great — my masseuse was extremely strong so that was good — 4 stars
4) The environment sucked, it was dark and it smelled like Thyme — which is a spice that belongs in the kitchen — 2 stars
5) The front desk lady was nice and had a good attitude — 4 stars
The average of all of the above is 2 stars…

My masseuse, SIENNA, was incredible and I highly recommend her. She works Tues– Sat.
Too bad I discovered Spring Thyme the week before I leave NYC! It’s not at street level, so ignore the dingy building, proceed to the 8^th floor and enjoy!

My review is specifically for waxing.
Zori is amazing. She has extremely good technique and explains everything to you. She also keeps everything sterile. They use HARD WAX. I also have sensitive skin and my skin wasn’t raw or anything after it was done.
Greatly recommend coming here if you want to try for your first time! Also just in general. It’s a little pricey, but well worth it.
**update: Zori has moved to another location, but their other aesthetician does a great job too.

We got a couples massage here and my boyfriend and I both had female masseuses. After filling out the questionnaire, we were led to a spacey room with dim lights and the massage started. It was so relaxing, we both fell asleep and woke up an hour later feeling refreshed. I’m sensitive to pain and prefer only a little bit of pressure and this was the first time I didn’t have any complaints. So for those of you who prefer strong pressure to get those knots out of your back might not be so satisfied.
After the massage, they didn’t rush us to get dressed even though it was almost their closing time and were not pushy with their products either.

I went back this weekend for my second visit for 3 reasons:
1– I realllllly needed a massage.
2– my experience with Martha was great the first time.
3– I had a 20% discount!
I recommend you go to this spa ONLY if you go to Martha. You have to be vocal about what your needs are and what you’re looking for. And be friendly! Just because you are paying someone for a service doesn’t mean you treat him/​her like a servant.
I do have to warn you though… outside of the massage room being comfy and relaxing, the place is not that great. Its not a dump but it could be better. They definitely need to empty the garbage can in the bathroom which smells like urine!

I’ve never been more disappointed with a massage in my ENTIRE LIFE. The one star is for the receptionist whom I felt very bad for because she was super nice.
My masseuse was MARY, and if your a regular massage goer looking for a proper massage she is definitely not the one to see.
1) there is no changing area nor do they offer robes.
2) Mary had the window of my room open and I heard all the noise NYC has to offer… Not what I wanted .
3) I spoke with Mary prior to my massage explained my trouble area and informed her of my pressure preference. (Which is very strong)
4) There was no technique I felt as if they pulled her off the street and gve her a job.
5) There was no pressure she is NOT an experienced professional. Rubbing someone using a whole bottle of oil is NOT a massage.
6) my 5 year old niece could have done a better job walking on my back.
I felt insulted by Spring Thyme for even allowing her to work on me.
Long story short I i had a 75 min Signature massage purchased from Groupon… I stopped her after 40 minute and told them to give my remaining minutes to my friend who was getting a massage there as well. I def will not return!!! I wish Unilocal had negative stars.

It was easy to get an appointment and everyone was nice and friendly. It just felt more like a gentle rub than a massage although she did apply pressure around the neck and shoulders. The foot reflexology was barely a rub. Maybe I was just too tired, at one point I was so relaxed that I wished she would just stop and let me sleep.
They did offer to give me the same groupon deal if I came back within the next month. It’s unlikely that I will take them up on the offer. I feel bad because the girl was so sweet but it just wasn’t for me.

I’ve been to a few acupuncturists in my life but none were as good as DOCTOR WEI HAI LI. He is amazing.
My symptoms cleared up immediately.
I used a groupon but I will def be a returning customer. I think they even take my insurance.

I am so happy to have found this spa and that it is so close. Just had a wax with Zori, and by far the best I have ever experienced.
I did not have to wait more than a few minutes before Zori brought me to the private, spacious room. The lights were dimmed with soft music, so prepping myself for what I thought was going to be another excruciating experience (my last wax at a different salon was awful) was pleasant and relaxing. Zori took me step-​by-​step through her processes and explained everything thoroughly: from the type of wax she uses and why. She was warm and made the experience almost pleasant. Even after the wax, Zori was sure to explain how to care for myself in the future, and allowed me to clean and redress myself in privacy.
This was the most painless, comfortable waxing I have ever received. I know I will be going back, and be sure to ask for Zori.

I had a Groupon for a 75 minute massage/​reflexology treatment. When I booked the appointment (I had no problem getting the time that I needed and they were very pleasant on the phone) they asked me to arrive 10 minutes early so I could sign in and get ready before the massage. I was running late and didn’t get there until my appointment time but they made no fuss about it at all.
I was led to a clean and comfortable waiting area. Its not super posh but its calm and quiet and clean and for the price, not bad at all.
My masseuse came out to get me and took me into the room, looked over the form I filled out and talked about how he could adjust the massage to focus more on the areas I had marked were bothering me. I think his name was Ilyia? The woman at the front desk wrote down his name for me but I can’t find it now :(
I know I’m usually in the minority with this but I hate deep tissue massage. I had put in the comments section of my form that I didn’t want deep tissue (I hate when they try to dig out a knot and I spend half of my relaxing massage wincing in pain) and he made sure to adjust the pressure so I’d enjoy it. It was an absolutely FANTASTIC massage! The entire thing from beginning to end was wonderful and I left feeling recharged. Another thing that is nice about this massage is after he is done with each «section» he uses a hot towel to remove the excess massage oil so you don’t leave feeling greasy.
I liked the massage so much that I walked out of the massage room and straight up to the front desk to book another one!
I felt no pressure to tip like some previous posters reviews. I even had to call the masseuse back out into the front room once I had finished booking so I could give him the tip.
The only weird thing about this place is when they take you into the massage room they talk to you for a minute about the treatment and then leave so you can get undressed and onto the table but there is nowhere to put your clothes. No stool or table or hook or anything. I ended up just piling them on the windowsill… still, for a great massage, I’ll deal with it…

I just got back from my 50min Deep Tissue massage, and oh my god, this was one of the best massages I’ve ever gotten.
I am not sure about some of the bad reviews here… maybe is the different masseuse…
My masseuse was Marina and she did an excellent job.
I’ve never felt so relaxed…
I already made a second appointment for this week.

I just got back from my massage at Spring Thyme. I had an amazing massage therapist named Phillip. It was a strong massage but I did not wince in pain or feel like I had just been beat up. He asked a few times if the pressure was good. The massage was very thorough from head to toe.
It was a great deal with the groupon. I would definitely go back, but am not sure if I would pay the regular price of $ 120 for it.
