Good selection of beer and whiskey in a typical Irish pub-​in-​Times Square setting. Food is run-​of-​the-​mill dive drivel. Good for drinks after work unless you’re a tourist, in which case enjoy, I guess?

You can’t buy a beer at the bar without paying for it on delivery, or surrendering your credit card, to some out of sight location. Why? Because we are on Times Square, and I look like a criminal, who bolts without paying for my beer. Grow up guys. Hire some experienced bartenders who know how to work a bar. My guess is the untrained bar beer keepers don’t even understand the value of the multiple selections of Irish whiskeys behind the bar. JS

in addition to being very slow (having to ask for drinks twice, having to ask to order food multiple times, long waits for everything), the staff was extremely rude to our group (to the point someone in our party overheard the waitress calling us assholes to a coworker). the food is overpriced and nothing to write home about.

Firstly, I’m Scottish… as in really Scottish (born and bred). The thing with Scottish restaurants in Manhattan, is that there is not very many to compare. I’ve been to this place perhaps five times and only because it was convenient. The food here is not particularly stunning for the price. Ok, it’s not particularly expensive either. The whole tartan thing, kilts and prints of golfers on the wall is also a little embarrassing… it does not remind me of my home but reminds me of what someone would think a Scottish restaurant should be and not what a Scottish restaurant is. It would have been nice to have haggis as an entrée and not only just as an appetizer. There is another place downtown that has better food and a more contemporary modern décor. St Andrews does have a nice selection of Belhaven beer.

Stopped in this little gem while waiting to meet with my group for dinner. I sat alone at the bar and had a few drinks. The bartenders were fabulous. They kept me company and initiated conversation with me while also taking care to pay attention to everyone else at the bar. The experience was so nice, that despite the number of bars in NYC, I’d definitely come here again!

Some friends and I ended up at St. Andrew’s after seeing a friend perform in a small play in the neighborhood. At 9 p.m. on a Saturday night, the upstairs was pretty empty, and to our advantage. Seven of us were very easily seated!
Noting itself as the only Scottish restaurant in Manhattan, the waiters donned kilts and haggis was most certainly on the menu. We looked at the pub menu, and there were some cheaper choices on that menu, but burgers were still $ 17 dollars. All I wanted was a burger, so… I paid the $ 17. Ouch. Well, at least it WAS a good burger. The fries were passable. Most of my friends ended up getting wings and /​or sautéed vegetables. (The manager was very quick to cater one of my vegan friends and tell her what was animal-​free. Wonderful of him to to!)
As we left later in the evening, live music was playing downstairs, but I was glad to be upstairs where we were able to converse over good food.
This is a nice little respite in the cacophony of the Times Square area!

St. Andrews was a great experience. Coming here during the Christmas season, the food was yummy, there was plenty of space, and there was great ambience. They had a lot of Christmas songs playing, overall a fun place to eat.
New England Clam Chowder followed by grilled salmon with potatoes and asparagus — everything was great.
Fun fact: The waiters are all wearing kilts, which adds to the Scottish feel, and they were super attentive/​friendly. I’d definitely revisit before or after a Broadway show!

If I could give more stars I would! The food is fantastic and the service was spot on! The horseradish crusted salmon was excellent, the New England Clam Chowder was tasty, and even the the ice cream was good. Our server was Oscar and he was awesome as well as the entire staff… they hovered but weren’t intrusive. Highly recommend!

Let’s just start with the fact that I’ve been coming here for about 7 years. Beginning with, their original location a few streets down on 44^th street. The current location is a huge step since the bar area is bigger, they have an upstairs seating area, and the restaurant overall is just gorgeous.
If you are looking for a fantastic beer and scotch collection, this is it. Today, I had a few delirium and the buffalo calamari — which I have mentioned is amazing in a previous review. Today, of course, it didn’t disappoint! The staff overall are very friendly and attentive. For locals, it is a hangout. For tourists, if are lucky enough to find this spot, you have arrived.

Great place for a pre theater meal. Portions are hardy but not too much. That’s a good thing. You want to save room for desert.
So far I’ve had the Classic Turkey Club. Very good. My daughter has had the fish and chips one time we went, and a hamburger another. She was pleased with both.
Desert is the killer! Soooo good! My daughter has Sticky Toffee Pudding. I get the Butterscotch Ice cream Sandwiches. Definitely no complaints!
Service is very reliable. We were neither bothered or ignored. The atmosphere takes me away. I love the feeling of being at St. Andrews. Golf anyone?
If you need a nice pre theater restaurant I suggest trying St. Andrews. I’m never disappointed.

Good was good — what we could get that is. Ordered three different wines and out of them all. Tried ordering two different desserts and out of those too. Service was slow. Overall good we dos have was great though.

I stumbled on this place one cold night while I was staying nearby at the Marquis. What a pleasant surprise. It’s not even like you’re in TImes Square (confirmed by my friends who live in the city that I have brought here).
The food is decent. Good pub food. Always love a good fish and chips, the curry chips are yummy, and the burgers will fill you up nicely. Good beer selection, friendly staff (in kilts), and always a nice crowd, but not too crowded.
My only wish is that the stairs up to the bathrooms weren’t so steep. Eek. But such is the nature of small city restaurants…
Definitely a good escape from the madness of Times Square when you are to tired or cold to venture too far elsewhere.

To date, I have not eaten here, but I’m a fan nonetheless. As others have clued you in, St. Andrew’s is a haven amidst the chaos that is Times Square. I’ve never come in and found it teeming with types or as annoyingly overcrowded as its neighborhood is renowned for. Whenever I’ve visited, it’s got just the right amount of buzz, if not closer to empty, thus allowing for actual conversation. While here, I naturally capitalize on the chance to experiment with scotches and relish over the bartenders’ accents. It’s not cheap, for sure, since they have to pay rent somehow, but it retains a character worth the price point in my opinion. And it certainly beats having to trek blocks and blocks in either direction to find an equally good atmosphere when entertaining visitors who just had to see Times Square.

I have stumbled upon this place next to Times Square twice now. Once with my father on a college tour of the northeast and another when my fiancé and I were exploring the city looking for a drink. The food here is okay but it is reasonably priced especially for the location it is in. I have stopped at the TGI Friday’s nearby and the upcharge for that particular restaurant is absurd just because of its location next to Times Square.
However back to St. Andrews. I enjoy this restaurant it has a cool pub vibe. It has an assortment of alcohol. However they do not have Irish Car Bombs which I was disappointed in however it is a Scottish pub in their defense. We had the fish and chips and they were very good. We also had a few vodka tonics and jack and cokes they were strong and good.

A friend of mine and I discovered this place a few weeks ago after a convention nearby in Times Square (I know, Times Square, we’re terrible New Yorkers!). We work close by, but always travel uptown/​towards 8^th avenue for after work drinks – so finding this place a few blocks away was great!
We’ve had lunch, dinner and drinks here, and all have been done well. Their burgers are great, and easily customizable. Together my friends and I have had their quesadillas, fish & chips, shepard’s pie, and oysters (a fav!). They have a large bar area as well as seating, so you can choose what type of mood you and your group are in.
The waiters and bartenders are all very kind and extremely willing to help you decide your best option for food/​drinks, especially if you’re up to the challenge of trying one of their many, many scotch options (I believe they have 200!). I don’t know all the bartenders by name, but they’re all collectively very nice and attentive, especially when the after work crowd is at full swing. One of the bartenders, Chris, is very nice, and willing to work with you on what suits your palette best if you want to try something different than whats on their menu. Overall, a great place in midtown to stop by for drinks and eats!

Without Unilocal,we would not have found St. Andrews in the jam-​packed streets of the Theatre District. Quite a find it is, too, and it has quickly become one of our regular haunts on our trips to the City.
The bar itself is luxuriously long and inviting. With be-​kilted bartenders and warm lighting, this is a great (even romantic) place for a pre– or post-​show cocktail.
Most recently, we stopped in for dinner. Mr. M rated the shepherd’s pie a «5» and I rated my grilled chicken sandwich a «2.» Most regrettably, the chicken was over-​cooked and the focaccia was stale. Happily, the super delicious hand cut fries and artisanal pickles compensated for the sandwich’s deficits.
Notwithstanding these imperfections, we will return because we like St. Andrew’s vibe, convenient location, general absence of tourists and the kilts :-).

I was lured here by the promise of good Scottish fare and waiters in Kilts. I was not disappointed.
The bar was crazy crowded on a Friday evening, so we opted for a table. They took us upstairs which is great if you want to hear each other’s conversations. The drinks were awesome – good Dark N’ Stormy, and if you want a good Cider, you need to try the Koppaberg Pear Cider. Big bottle of sweet, refreshing cider to wash down your meal with! The dinner menu was a little extreme for us, so we asked if we could see the pub fare menu – to which they kindly obliged. Awesome!
You need to order the Chicken Pot Pie – thick, creamy, and homemade goodness. I’ll definitely be returning for this. If not for the pot pie, then for the fall-​off-​the-​bone baby back ribs – intense flavor and moist. These two items are enough of a reason to return, that is, if the waiters in kilts isn’t enough of a reason already. Easily 4 stars, a 5^th if they had any drink specials which I wish they could have extended to us. Regardless, I will be returning for some mo’ pot pie.
