Ordered take out from here. Never again. The chocolate cake was awful. Don’t even get me started on the $ 3 scoop of ice cream, literally, a spoonful of ice cream that a hamster could eat in less than 5 seconds. Stay away. An absolute joke.

Visited this Upper East Side go-​to diner a few times over the past year and have always come away a better more fulfilled person. Mainly because they always manage to offer good service, reasonable food and ok prices. It’s a diner. Clean, friendly and prompt with the food.
In comparison to a few of the other diners in close proximity, this one seems to stand a foot, or a least a couple of inches, above.

Don’t do it. UES prices and food with less flavor than any place I have ever been for breakfast. At the table we had an omelet, a frittata, and a bagel with cream cheese. The bagel with cream cheese was by far the best thing at the table and did not hold a candle to any other bagel in the city.

This place sucks. I’ve ordered from them a few times and they ALWAYS get my order wrong. The food is so-​so. Not worth the time and money. I will no longer be ordering from here anymore. Take your business elsewhere.

As a runner, I love food. And what is more satisfying than going to a diner that is close to the finish of a race from Central Park AND has good food for a reasonable (for Manhattan) price?
So after our 18 Mile Tune-​Up race at Central Park, my team and I of 10 people (+3 a little while later) came to this diner, conveniently located on Third Ave between 88^th and 89^th Streets. We had called the night before to let the manager know that a big group of us would be coming so as not to cause mayhem for the other customers or the establishment. I was pleasantly surprised to see a long table set up for us. The waiter had already placed menus on the table for us to browse and big pitchers of water were waiting for us. We all ordered coffee, which was promptly served, and then he took our orders in an efficient manner. Note: one of my team mates and I had big bags with our dirty clothes and whatnot and the manager, Stratos, moved them out of our way. How nice!
I don’t remember how long it took for the food to be served, but the waiter was also very efficient in serving us our plates. He had brought us the condiments beforehand so we didn’t have to ask for them later. Throughout the meal, he refilled our coffee and made sure we were well accommodated. We really enjoyed all the food and the atmosphere. We sat by the entrance where the windows opened to the street, so we had a nice breeze blowing at us. The other patrons flowed around us and seemed to be regulars as the workers greeted them like friends.
The best part of the meal was when the waiter brought out three ice cream banana boats. We were not expecting that, but we ate it. Lol. Thank you for that delicious surprise!
All in all, a great meal and good vibes. We will definitely have to come back after another long run or race at Central Park. :)

Stargate, who is the man at the register today at lunch? My family always enjoyed your food. We give you slack on the slow service at times. We commend our waiter who was one of the only ones that shows up for work during a blizzard in Winter! In fact we commend you for opening your doors and serving the neighborhood on those rough days!
My dismay is due to my daughters upset when this man at the register accused her of having a fake $ 20 bill today. She just went to the ATM at Chase!
He insisted. It was old and worn. The water markings were there. He said the presidents hair wasn’t right! Please! Now she tells me it will be a long time before she goes to Stargate again! For her the fact that she enjoys the food does not make up for being disrespected. And made to feel like a criminal!
I do admit I got worried that the place does not appear to have the crowds waiting for a seat the way I remember long ago. If you are the owner you need to adjust your attitude. If you are an employee the owner needs to beware. You are driving people away.
My thanks go to our waiter and the other wait staff that did an excellent job today. My meal was great. I left happy. You lost my daughter. Your popularity rating is 50% for our experience today!
I’ll bring a friend next time and see if you like my $ 20.

Went there last week, since the place was empty my friend and I decide to got in for a quick. We got seat very fast but the rest of entire meal was so slow. Service was very very poor and SLOW !!! Sorry to say, I definitely do not turn back again.

Yes the service isn’t the best, but you’d think the food would make up for it… Nope! The food was horrible!!!

What happened? Poor customer service, a MIA-​waiter, undercooked eggs (EGGS!), old toast and oily bacon made for a very disappointing brunch. There are plenty of places to have breakfast in New York City. This should not be one of them.

I recently moved to the hood and am a diner junky. I have tried and tried both through coming in and leaving generous tips regardless to start getting some good treatment here. I give up. I have walked out twice of an empty place with servers just ignoring me. Food ok, but slooooooooow and poor service is the norm. Today waited with my wife for 30 min to get order in… then longer for a bagel. They are walking around cleaning tables no one has been at. Watched two other couples walk out after getting no service. Never again. Sad.

It’s my first time at Stargate. The pancakes are really good. The bacon is not too salty which I like. Their coffee is not that great. I will def come back here.

La carta es variada y la comida muy abundante.

We came to this place for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon. I ordered a burger and she ordered a panini, both of which were quite good I might add. My french fries weren’t as fresh as I would have liked them, but we’re still pretty good. Apart from that, I would say the food was on par.
As for the service, it was great in my opinion! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Granted the place was a little empty because of the awkward time, I was still pleasantly surprised by the service. All in all, I would definitely recommend you stop by this place!

Took a recommendation from a jogger at a red light because neighborhood people know best. Such a great breakfast here. It was a Saturday around 11 and it was really crowded, but since we were only 2 people we were seated right away. There were a lot of families with small children, but it wasn’t too crazy eating around them. The coffee, french toast and bacon were all delicious– I practically licked my plate. Our waitress was a sweet Russian lady and she even chatted us up a bit.

Very convenient for 3^rd Avenue and East 89^th area.
Evening Manager is very nice and works to make customers happy.
Great for breakfast.

Came here for brunch today, Marathon Sunday, the place we were gonna go to down the street wasn’t taking walk-​ins. I am not a fan of diners in general, but my friends wanted to go here, so I came along. First off, the service was impeccable. The staff was cool with substitutions and even offered to split our checks at the end. We ordered hot chocolate which definitely hit the spot. The food came fast, and was decent. I had the mexican wrap with potatoes. They had forgotten the salsa, so once that was added, it tasted much better. If you want a quick and inexpensive meal with ok food, this is not a bad option.

If you’re desperate for some diner food, I guess this helps? Well, that was my situation this weekend when I went. I needed some eggs, bacon and home fries ASAP and I had been here before so I figured, why not? It was pretty decent before. It was pretty full around 10 am on a Saturday but my friend and I got seated immediately. I was craving a fountain soda BAD, but unfortunately when it came it was incredibly flat. Flat fountain soda = sad Ali… anyway, we both made our own omelettes and they were pretty dry, as were the home fries. The bacon did hit the spot though… I don’t know, if you’re desperate, go wild here, but meh.

This diner is in SSSLLLOOOWWWW MMMOOOTTTIIIIIOOOONNNN.
Despite the place being totally empty, my boyfriend and I waited 30 minutes for our falafel appetizer. Additionally, we waited another 30 minutes for our wraps. Interestingly, the wraps don’t come with anything (not even fries) unless you want to pay $ 3 extra. Seriously? A diner that charges EXTRA for fries with a wrap? Unheard of. I gave the place 2 stars because the food wasn’t half-​bad. Just expect to wait a VERY long time no matter what you order/​how crowded the place is.

A friend and I stopped by for a late lunch this afternoon after visiting The Jewish Museum, and it was A-​OK!
We each ordered the half-​sandwich, soup, and drink lunch special and for just $ 9.50, we had more than our fill. I chose the pastrami sandwich and the split pea soup, both of which were tasty.
Stargate is a pretty standard NYC diner.

I ate here a couple of times, the first time it was incredibly slow despite not being busy, and the second time I sat within the eyeline of the head waiter, or he stood in my line of sight, and kept putting his hands on his waist like he was irritated. He stood squarely facing me and did this, from about twenty feet away. I gathered that he didn’t like my being there.
There is no one to appeal to at times such as that. I just didn’t go back. Unfortunately I never found a friendly or neutral diner to recommend instead.

I would have given this diner 3 stars, but I now can no longer order the matzo ball soup, as I pulled out a male dark hair out of the matzo ball. Gross. Maybe your line cooks should wear something to cover their hair while working with food? Just a suggestion.
Mediocre diner food, nothing to write home about. But if your hungry and looking for a quick delivery, they’re pretty punctual.
