We are proud of Stephen Wise Free Synagogue as a spiritual home, nursery school, religious school, high school, serious study of Torah, sermons, and other adult education programs, Jewish music, and clergy led life-​cycle. History

Established in 1907.

Stephen Wise Free Synagogue was founded in 1907 by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise as The Free Synagogue because he wished to express his thoughts freely from the pulpit and for the pews to not be reserved by congregants. Rabbi Wise passed away in 1949 after his Zionist dream was realized in 1948. Rabbi Klein took over immediately afterwards and until 1980 remained the senior rabbi. Rabbi Brickner took over in 1980, and today Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch serves as the senior rabbi.

I’ve attended several Friday night services and have been more than pleased I found the music (with actual musicians) to be a real treat. This synagogue is known as a reform Shul, but there are quite a number of traditional melodies and prayers. The cantor is amazing and the Rabbi wonderful. Turnout on Friday night is light and I’ve yet to go on a Saturday but I always leave felling spiritually fulfilled and humming the melodies all the way home.

This is THE synagogue to make you want to go to schul.
This is the most Progressive you’ll ever find: Online streaming video services content, Rabbis’ sermons on You tube, an incredible 6-​piece band-​ensemble, known as ‘Hallel,’ to accompany services, an high-​caliber, established yet polished congregation, gorgeous, modern sanctuary, Kiddish with connoisseur-​level yayn and healthy sweets and treats to keep you in the mood of shabbat, family programs and torah learning galore.
