We had the place to ourselves. Seeing it so empty should have been a hint to us to go elsewhere, but we were lured in by the $ 5 lychee Sangria. I had white lychee Sangria and my girlfriend had red lychee Sangria. I thought it was very good. I saw it made fresh at the bar. The only thing I thought was odd was that they garnished the drink with an orange slice. I think it would have made more sense if they used a lychee fruit to garnish the drink. The service was superb. Of course we were the only people in the restaurant with the exception of the two young ladies who came in for take out. Trash was cleared immediately. Water glasses were filled constantly. I got a bento box(although they called it something else) with shrimp Teriyaki. The portion was very generous. For $ 22 I had 6 shrimp, a little broccoli and carrots, 6 steamed shrimp dumplings, a California roll(which didn’t look fresh, the avocado was already browning which meant to me that it was cut earlier in the day), rice, and tempura vegetables & shrimp. I wasn’t happy with my Teriyaki shrimp. The sauce tasted a little burned and it was super thick. My girlfriend got a «Rainbow Roll» which she enjoyed. I’d go back, but I wouldn’t be a regular.

A friend and I stumbled into Sushi Mora for a quick bite before attending a show at the Joyce theater. I noticed the A-grade from the Health Department posted in the window, and thought the place was sanitary to dine — it was. I ordered shrimp shumai as a starter and a spicy yellowtail inside-out roll with brown rice. The shumai was prepared well; it was succulent and had the right amount of salt. The yellowtail was fresh and tasty. The brown rice was cooked perfectly, not under or overcooked. My friend ordered a sweet potato roll, which was fine. I have yet to dine at a sushi restaurant that is able to jazz up sweet potato rolls or tempura. The only qualm I had regarding their food was the garden salad. It was pre-made and had been sitting in the fridge to keep cool. The mesclun greens were limp, the carrots had zero life and the cucumbers were turning translucent. Need I say, we did not eat it. Salads should always be made to order to maintain its freshness. I recommend their lychee martini… made with their house vodka and lychee juice(no added syrups… A+ for that). The waiter was friendly and not over bearing; he checked on us the right amount of times. We enjoyed the drinks so much that we went back after the show. I was impressed with the interior design, which offered a modern/simplistic look. I ate here in the afternoon, but could tell the ambiance was elevated in the evening. Nice place. Would eat here again when in the neighborhood.

First and foremost, and definitely most important: the sushi was just not that great, at. all. And it didn’t just stop there. The waiter barely spoke English and couldn’t tell me how one roll I wanted to order was prepared. He had to call someone else over to explain it. When I said I didn’t want spicy mayo on either roll I ordered, one of them came smothered WITH spicy mayo on top. The translating waiter walked by and saw that, apologized and remembered how I ordered it, so he took it right back up to the bar. It came back in a few minutes but was so sloppily prepared. I understand it’s probably annoying as hell to get a dish sent back for something as stupid as spicy mayo and have to throw out the whole thing and make a new one, but the new roll that came back to me was just unacceptable. The seaweed was barely hanging on each piece and there was actually a huge piece of iceberg lettuce sticking straight up out of another piece. Sloppy sloppy sushi! Nothing worse than an ill-prepped roll. Presentation, along with freshness and flavor, are just about the most important, if not only important things about sushi. That brings me to the next downfall. Fresh it was, but the flavor was just not there. The soy sauce was a bit off-tasting, too. It took us forever to flag our waiter down for our check and for whatever reason, the folder with our check and credit cards was passed to about three different people(we actually saw this happen) before it got opened and our cards were swiped. Décor is ultra-flashy-modern/cheesy, too. $ 20 for two rolls(and I didn’t even have a specialty one, those are about $ 17 a pop). My friend who took me here was raving about it but I’ll be skipping this one next time.

Sushi Mora has nice décor… But that’s about it. Yes they have great lunch special deals but there’s a reason for the low prices and the empty tables. Luckily I didn’t have as bad of an experience as other Unilocalers have had, but it was enough for me to not even finish eating what I ordered. So, I ordered the lunch special — chicken teriyaki bento box, to go. I honestly don’t even know what I had, but it surely did not taste how normal chicken would taste like. The texture was awfully too mushy and it was drenched in teriyaki sauce, so it was obvious that they were trying to hide something hideous. Was it really chicken? Was it old meat? I don’t know but I don’t want to really know. I ended up eating the other items included in the bento box but the chicken for lunch, and was hungry two hours later with a headache at work.

I was there on Monday with my friend, since I live in the area, we decided to check it out: it was horrible, my friend spat one of the kind of sushi out, the service was horrible, I had to fight each time get service, it was slow, my friends main corse arrived ‘14 minutes before mine, then it was a wrong one(chicken tarryaki instead of tofu. When it finally came I had to take it to take out, since my friend had finished a long time ago. When we complained about the bad sushi, we got no reaction. Also no apology for the non existing service. And the check was $ 51.17 with no liquor ordered. Worst sushi, worst service, that was our experience.

FOODPOISONINGWARNING This place is cheap and gross but pretends to be fancy. OK – the décor is nice but COMEON! I feel like that is the only reason others have ranked this establishment well! When I walked in, my date and I agreed it smelled of bad fish. As a hungry vegan in a rush, I dismissed it. I wouldn’t be eating the fish anyway and with all of the empty tables I knew we could get in and out quickly. This is maybe a full star down. And also a point I will learn to watch out for in the future. The waiter served me the wrong soup. Not the end of the world – when I brought it to their attention they offered to switch it for me. It was just a little annoying – half a star down. As we were waiting for our food, I noticed a few flies on the chair next to us. If it were summer with open windows I would understand. It is the middle of winter – there should be no flies. That is a full star down. I left a photo on the Unilocal page too. Finally, starting about 1.5 hours after we ate there my stomach began to hurt. I didn’t want to forfeit new years though, so I committed to not drinking alcohol the whole night and still going to a friend’s. Within four hours after eating I couldn’t take it anymore and went home, and by 7 hours after the meal I was emitting profusely. The other meals I had eaten that day were home cooked – I maintain a clean kitchen and have never been ill from my cooked vegetables. Bad service, bad smell, flies and got sick. DONOTCOMEHERE!

Good sushi, decent prices. All the rolls we ordered came with 8 pieces as opposed to the traditional 6, and they let us customize some rolls. Also, if you come for drinks, they do have specials, so make sure you ask because they don’t always advertise them.

Sushi Mora– surprised us for Saturday lunch. Sushi like pizza is often dependent on the hand that makes it. The food was good. Lunch specials abound under $ 10 Ate: Sushi bento Surprised soup came with the bento. Bento– nice spring green salad with grape tomatoes– good dressing. Tasty and– not overcooked shumai. Fresh tasting sushi with sticky rice. Quite a good lunch value and super– tasty & fresh. Chelsea rocks!

Im a vegetarian so I dont know if it qualifies me to write a review on a sushi restaurant, but I will anyway. The reason I want to write a review on this place is that I am not only vegetarian, but also incredibly fussy, which makes it difficult to eat out where there are limited vegetarian options. The chefs and wait staff were very helpful, and made me a variation of a dragon roll, which was delicious. Fish aside, I found the food here great, food presentation great and the staff helpful.

Nice décor inside, trendy modern but good mix of people. Really nice presentation on their sushis. We ordered a bunnch but my favorite was the fatty tuna Metal roll. Pretty much ordered everything from that category the Eart Wind and Fire I think. all very good. Yum still thinking about it. Oh and good service too! Prices were reasonable, can get expensive but then again it’s sushi!

I eat at Sushi Mora every week — usually on a weeknight. The space is beautiful and the waitstaff are very pleasant. I love the Chelsea Roll special, and no matter if we have ordered hot or cold food, everything is always perfect. $ 5 lychee sake sangria doesn’t hurt either! I’m always amazed the place isn’t packed…

I’ve wondered about this place since it opened. I have a general rule that I don’t go into sushi places that are never crowded and this place fits that description. However tonight I decided to give it a shot with a friend from out of town. I reinforced my belief in the sushi rule. The miso was just ok, but I was still hopeful. The sushi arrived and it was all over. The fish tasted like something you’d expect on a Monday at lesser sushi restaurants(this was Saturday night). The saki came luke cool and was mediocre at best. I don’t often worry about getting sick from eating sushi but some of the pieces left me wondering if I should have spit them out. We left a number of pieces on the plate and later when I got home I heated up some leftovers to satisfy my hunger. This is among the worst sushi I’ve ever had and I will not be back. Oh and to top it off there’s a big TV behind the bar and in a restaurant that should be a red flag, from now on that is another rule to live by. When I see five stars for this restaurant with such banal text I assume it’s the owners posting or hiring the 50-cent-army. Because really if you like sushi you wouldn’t give this place five stars.

A nice local sushi restaurant in the neighborhood of Chelsea for lunch or dinner. Affordable but the sushi doesn’t stand out nor is it creative. You’ll get your usual standard choices of rolls and sushi combinations. I went with the sushi and sashimi combo and the fish was fresh. Came here for a work function and the spot doesn’t really cater towards groups. We were kind of cramped. Try out the lychee drink though. Really thirst quenching.

Went here on a Saturday for a late lunch. Ambience: Pretty cool looking place, I’m guessing it’s nice at night. They opened the front window so we sat basically right outside. Food: Average sushi, the rice wasn’t really done right and the fish was on the back end of fresh. The bento box came with some nice sides and the miso soup was actually pretty good(I would avoid the akadashi miso which was bland) Service: one guy for the entire restaurant, but he was pretty on top of things.

This is a great place to bring your date as the décor is dim and romantic and plus the play lounge music. Came here once and I ordered the salmon teriyaki combo box. The shumai is great, the salmon teriyaki is cooked to perfection, deep fried tempura is just awesome and the sushi is great but the rice could be better. The only complain that I have is the service might be a little slow since there is only one waiter working on a Saturday night. And the business is kinda slow too, not that many customers.

Funny enough, when you click on two starts it says«meh. I’ve experienced better» Ironic, since I now refer to this place as «Sushi Meh.» I wanted to like this place, I really did. It’s beautiful, although it gets lost in the abundance of other Japanese and Thai places on this strip of 8th ave(seriously, when did that happen?) Edamame was bland, at best. The waiter had to come back not once, not twice, but THREE times to ask me to repeat my order. I ordered 3 run of the mill rolls… um hi? The sushi itself, while very fresh, didn’t blow me away. I will say the Miso soup was very flavorful(i’m sure because it was loaded in salt, but i digress). I was disappointed that such a «trendy» establishment didn’t serve brown rice either. Cocktails were ok, but again. nothing outstanding. Fairly reasonable, but again, «meh» :-/

Such a gorgeous sushi restaurant. In the back, there’s a waterfall in front of a marble wall, and it looks so pretty. The place is very simple… well designed, in my opinion. The food? Eh. I’ve had better. Nothing to drool over. Our waitress seemed kinda clueless. A Philly roll is the same thing as a Philadelphia roll, how do people still not understand this? Also, when it came down to the bill… I said I didn’t need change, and she just looked at me like I had 7,000 heads. It definitely wasn’t the language barrier as she spoke perfect English. The tuna tartare that I ordered for a friend to try had some weird lighting effect going on, covered by some stringy material. It was freaky. Not sure if my friend enjoyed the ceviche I had her try though, lol. That’s okay, more for me! The $ 14 sangria for two was a great price though, and probably the best sangria I’ve ever had to date. It’s the only thing worth coming back for.

Pretty so-so Japanese. Rather flaccid, mushy vege gyoza with dried out edges that left me wondering, what the heck IS that inside? Unagi sushi serving was generous but sauce way too salty and heavy handed. Udon soup was pretty unremarkable. For unremarkable but tasty sushi you’re probably better going to Blue Ginger down the road.
