Very reasonable price for Omakase(sashimi/sushi), one of the best Sushi in town. Cooked food is also delicious! Strongly recommended.

This is decent sushi, I’d go again because they were quick and the price was right but didn’t taste as good as a 4 star but it deserves extra points for the reasons above.

Too much expectation could mess you up. Don’t come, very noisy. Don’t like it… the uni is BAD!

3.5. Lol, am I being an asshole here? I’m not. I swear. Excuse my profanities, but I don’t know exactly know how I feel about this place. Deliberating on whether I should 3 or 4 star it & really wishing that Unilocal at half stars here. I had a lot of food here and everything was good but nothing was explosively amazing. Everything was classic, good, fresh, and apparently/perhaps/maybe imported? But there are some cons along the way… First things first. Interior is in the style of classic Japanese restaurant, with slightly closed off sitting tables on the outlines, which gave the middle area(where we sat) mysterious closed off rooms to look at. My friend and I had the following: Sea Urchin Chawan Muchi(essentially uni with egg custard. soft, yummy, clean) Miso Soup(basic, flavorful broth but not much anything else) Crab with Spicy Mayo Roll Wrapped with Avocado and Spicy Tuna, Tempura Crunch on Top(good and fresh roll, a bit overpriced) Fried Oysters with Anchovy Sauce(good, crispy, nicely presented) Beef Tartare(meat was good, though a bit chewy. the sauce was not flavorful.) Salmon Tartare(basic tartare, very smoooth avocado topping, but seemed a bit lacking) Hakodate Rice(fresh uni + seafood, but missing something…) As I said, everything was generally good, but nothing was particularly memorable. Now, let’s discuss the CON of this place. The service was god-awful! I felt like I was being nagged by my parents the whole night to hurry my meal and get out of the place. Every single time my friend or I placed a single spoon or utensil down, it was immediately taken out of our sight. At times… even when we weren’t even finished with the dish yet! I understand efficiency, but I was particularly annoyed several times throughout the night, when the waiters asked us for the 100th time…“are you done yet?”. No, I’m not done yet… I’m trying to reconnect and have a conversation here puhleaseeeeee. They forgot to give me seared salmon with ponzu sauce, and after explaining multiple times, I became frustrated and asked for the check(as they had been pushing me to do so). I think the waiters should learn to be more patient and give the patrons more time to digest the menu + meal, as well as finding the particular medium where they come to the table less often. Also, another factor of annoyance was the menus. I had 4 menus given to me, 2 drink menus and 2 food menus. Why were there so many pages? Flipping through the pages and holding all the menus while being constantly nagged to order was a bit tiring if i say so myself. Final deliberation: Perhaps if you’re rushing for lunch this is a good place for you.

Pretty good lunch specials. The place rushes you a little bit and is kind of loud, but overall the food is pretty good — espeically for the price. $ 25 for a spicy tuna roll, 4 pieces of tuna and salmon sashimi, gyoza, veggie tempura, salad and miso soup. A really great deal.

The best sushi joint for quality sushi without paying an arm and a leg or dealing with the hassle of reservations/longass lines. No frills with the interior décor or presentation but the sushi is always fresh and comes in thick slabs with a satisfying fish to rice ratio. Get the sushi or sashimi combos for a good-sized, delicious meal for less than $ 30. Bonus points for strong green tea and high quality chopsticks that don’t splinter. It’s about the little things.

I may have found my new go-to sushi restaurant. Despite living so close to it, I was finally brought to Sushi Tsushima on a date, and I love everything about it! The décor is modern and inviting. Sitting at the sushi bar means omakase only, so we had reservations in the dining room. It’s a great date spot because it’s intimate and not too loud. We started with the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño, which was delicious. I’m not a chef but I think it would be even better with some ponzu sauce. We then shared spicy scallop, spicy tuna, and salmon avocado rolls. All the fish was insanely fresh and the rice was served at the perfect temperature and stickiness. Our drinks and service were also great! Overall a fantastic meal… Can’t wait to come back and try more.

I suspect that many, like myself, came here after being turned away at a fancier(read: better rated) sushi restaurant around the corner. The sushi here was fresh, delicious and the service was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Great food — amazing spicy edamame, great sushi– best fish selection and love the special rolls — labeled by the Letters. Also great deal with some small $ 4 rolls.(this is coming from a sushi lover in NYC) Only negative — service — sometimes the service is slow and the rolls are brought out at different times, and other times it could feel a bit rushed.

Came here for the Tuesday chirashi lunch special that comes with miso soup. You get«happy hour» pricing of the special if you come between 11:30 — 12:15. Clean place and attentive service. Seemed like a lot of business people come here on their lunch break.

Got some casual lunch here. I arrived at around 2 which should be near the end of its lunch service(3:00pm). The lunch set costing $ 19 is a great value choice. I chose shrimp tempura, salmon sashimi and eel. It also comes with miso soup and salad. The whole set was well made, tempura being hot, crispy and juicy. Eel was tender, with a good combination of fat and chewy. Will go again if I got a chance!

This sushi place is awesome. First of all, it’s a Michelin star rated restaurant, so if you try to come right after the gym, you’ll get some looks… That being said, we were still seated and served promptly. We had the grilled octopus and tuna tartar as an appetizer. The octopus was so fresh and you get to grill it yourself on a hot stone that they put in front of you, which is a lot of fun. The tuna was on point! It was also amazingly fresh and they had it marinating in some kind of sauce, that was just delicious. I had two rolls afterwards, that were also excellent. I wish I had noticed that on the back of their menu, there is a «specials» section that has some pretty good deals. Definitely will come back to try one of those specials.

Loved the sushi here — v good quality and cuts of fish! We came here on a Friday night, after having made a reservation earlier that day. The restaurant was pretty full(especially for midtown) on a Friday, and we were glad to have made a reservation. To start, I tried the sea urchin chawa mushi(egg custard with uni on the top). The custard was so delicate and the sea urchin so flavorful. For dinner, I tried 10 pieces of sushi and the squid & cod roll. Most memorable was definitely the fatty tuna that just melts in your mouth. Everything really was good, and we left satisfied. Four stars because the restaurant was a bit loud/noisy, and because the service was good but slower towards the end when the restaurant got busy. Perhaps next time we will stop here for lunch!

blah. The sushi tasted bland… my soft shell crab roll did. no flava! Their fried oyster and crab something was bomb though — makes up for everything else we ate. My friend ordered soup and he wasnt happy about it at all… tasted like cup o’ noodle soup(4 for 1.00). the staff were ok, some friendly some didnt want to be there. Towards the end i felt rushed to get out. I think they had another party coming in. blah

The Unilocal description called this a divey place, but divey it wasn’t. It was a lovely restaurant, with private screened tables, if desired, a separate sushi bar room, and regular table seating. Even though we had reservations, we had to wait a while for our table. Dishes were very reasonably priced. The sushi was fresh & delicious. Had the seabass appetizer, which was cooked just right, not overcooked. The chicken wings were also very tasty. Service was good, but because we were in one of the screened tables, it was harder to get attention to refill teapots.

Excellent, authentic, luxury sushi! The sushi just melts in your mouth… hear the mozart starting to play in your head. $ 39 Chirashi is served bento box style with sashimi and rice in separate compartment. This way the sashimi stays cool while rice topped with salmon roe stays warm to fully enjoy the combination. This is a steal considering the quality is as good as sushi served in Ginza area in Tokyo, Japan.(Ginza is 5th Ave equivalent of New York city). You come here for the real sushi, so go ahead and order Chef’s specials, not california rolls with tempura. There are several omakase’s to choose from to suite your appetite. If you are skeptical, go for Chirashi. You will not be disappointed. I am coming back really, really soon. PROS: Authentic high-end sushi. Reasonably priced for the quality and ambience. Waiting staff pleasant and helpful. Only 2 blocks away from grand Central. Sushi bar and cocktail bar in separate rooms. This is great to fully enjoy sushi without the distracting noise. Many izakaya dishes on menu too, meaning you can come here with non-sushi loving friends. CONS: Those who don’t care about authenticity and quality of fish may feel the price is on the high side. But it’s really not. If you are really hungry, there are izakaya menus and tempuras to fill you up.

Very nice portions. Reasonable pricing. The seabass appetizer was delicious & much larger than expected. Not a dive like described by another reviewer. Very comfortable. We were in semi private alcove with sliding Japanese dividers. Sushi was fresh and tasty. Spicy tuna roll was the best. I loved the mashed potato salad that came with the teriyaki chicken. Not too much mayo & smooth like mashed potatoes.

I go to Tsushima once every few months because the everything is incredibly fresh. I generally get this bowl with uni and ikura or the regular sushi platter. This isn’t the kind of sushi spot I’d go to for a spicy avocado spider lava roll, but they definitely make specialty rolls. I guess, what I’m trying to say is this sushi is authentic.

The food is amazing, really. However the bad attitude from staff kind of ruined the overall experience. They’re open till 3p and welcomed us for a lunch at 2:30p. However at 3:10p they’ve just gave us a check and refused to serve us anymore claiming that they’re already closed.

Finally tried the Happy Hour lunch which is such a good deal !!! I would give a 5 star if it was just for it. I came here on a Thursday and had the soba + mix salmon/tuna over rice and both were incredibly good. The special lunch happy hour works before 12:15. –Tue: Chirashi -$ 15(instead of $ 19) –Wed: Ramen + special rice bowl — $ 14(inst. of $ 17) –Thu: Soba + Tuna & Salmon over rice -$ 15(inst. $ 17.5) –Fri: Ramen + special rice bowl -$ 14(inst. $ 17)

High prices but good quality. I got a side of uni($ 8) and a salmon don(salmon sashimi over a bowl of rice) $ 18.50– it comes with a salad, miso soup, and mochi for dessert. The uni was really good but I love most uni. I thought it was pretty fresh and average price for uni. The salmon don came with a decent amount of salmon sashimi. Overall I was pretty satisfied. Beer drafts are only $ 2. I tried the salmon avocado but it came with sliced salmon sashimi and not whole pieces… it was ok. My friends ordered from the sushi sheet and she got an egg sushi but then they brought the wrong one(she already ate one– it comes in sets of two). The waitress brought another egg sushi but only one slice… I thought this was not ok because it comes in sets of two and they were the ones who messed up the order in the first place… Besides that mishap I thought this place was decent for sushi…

Wanna taste attitude with your meal? Tsushima’s the place! The food here was great but I’m not here to give a one star because of that. My friends and I had a terrible experience with a waitress at the restaurant that effectively destroyed the meal. It was a busy weekday for a friend so he came late to the table and we ordered first. The waitress with glasses was visibly in a bad mood but we ordered anyways. When our friend finally came really late the rest of the table nearly finished. With a very condescending tone the waitress groaned«We don’t normally let customers do this.» Wait…you don’t normally let customers order and enjoy a good time at your establishment? We ordered alcohol and food while we were waiting and your restaurant wasn’t even full house. So what’s with that pissy attitude? We settled the bill which took forever and brought our late friend to another restaurant next door willing to give better service. I thought Japanese restaurants especially at your caliber and price range set the bar in standards of service but i guess you are no better than some chinese takeout ready to shove customers out the door.

Delicious food. Small portions. High prices. This restaurant reminds me of why I lost so much weight when I lived in Japan for two months. I came here on a double date, and I must say, the portions are definitely better to share among 2 than 4. We tried a lot of appetizers: beef w/radish, mushrooms + asparagus, avocado + tomato salad, beef tongue, Okonomiyaki, chicken wings, sea bass, edamame tempura, and tomato tempura. My favorites were the sea bass, which was glazed with a sweet and savory sauce; the beef w/radish, which was just so tender that it melted in mouth; and the Okonomiyaki, which was topped with a perfect amount of Japanese mayo. The beef tongue was shockingly quite rare, and the avocado + tomato salad was quite possibly the most American thing we could have ordered. The tomato tempura was more soggy than crispy, while the edamame tempura was quite the hit at our table. As for our main entrees, we just had sashimi. I was a little disappointed that the sashimi wasn’t presented in a decorative boat. They were simply put on a white plate, not very pretty in comparison to sashimi platters that I’ve had at Japanese restaurants in Japan and Hong Kong. Regardless, the sashimi was super fresh and just DELICIOUS. My favorites were the salmon, yellowtail, and snapper, though I really can’t imagine going wrong with ANY of the fish here. If you’re not into the authentic Japanese sushi /sashimi experience, DON’T WORRY! Because there’s also an American section of the menu with plenty of westernized sushi options, like salmon avocado rolls, tuna avocado rolls, etc. etc. In fact, if you don’t like authentic Japanese food, then you will end up spending a significantly lower amount of money! The interior is awesome. I felt like I had walked into Japan. There are a ton of private rooms on the side, and they require you to take your shoes off and sit on a mat on the floor, what an experience! Finally, don’t forget to try the sake! Tldr: great option for dinner near grand central, especially if you don’t mind spending a little more for the sashimi.

A small hidden spot in Murray Hill that serves up different lunch sets daily. My lunch crew and I dropped by here one Friday, just before noon. The décor is very simple with white sheets, light wooden barriers, and furniture. Most of my lunch crew got the ramen with the char siu. The one piece of char siu was so soft and full of flavor from being slow-cooked beforehand. It just was the perfect amount of fat and meat! Sushi rolls are a guilty pleasure of mine. They’re not exactly authentic but I was really craving for it. I tried the Yellowtail Scallion and Salmon Avocado. The fish meat was really fresh! Every piece just melted in my mouth! The side ginger was sliced extra thin and it was refreshing! Lunch combo comes with salad and miso soup. On the side note: Managers could have also been less rude and learn how to adapt to changes. I thought customer service should be your highest priority instead of blindly exercising rules that leads to a hard time upon yourself. Did I also mention speaking badly about a customer right in their faces to each other is rude?

The best sushi in New York! Such good quality fish. You would never think it would be this good. Try their basic rolls like the salmon avocado or spicy yellowtail. It melts in your mouth! Haven’t tried the other stuff on the menu but the sushi is definitely one of the best.

I think I like this place more than I should. I work in the area and always come here on the weekends… like I’ve been there once every weekend for the past 2 months type of deal. I’m very very picky about my sushi because I come from a sushi family and I can say this stuff is good. It’s incredibly fresh and done simply. The reason I come on the weekends is because it’s cheap…$ 4 for rolls cheap. For the quality, the price is fantastic. I just wish everything was seasoned just a little bit more… that the spicy rolls were a little bit spicer and whatnot. But I can look past that for the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Update: I returned here on a Saturday night dinner and the service was AWFUL. The wait staff was so rude and condescending and it was such a terrible experience because I also had guests from out of town with me. Based on that, we tipped accordingly. They had the audacity to chase us to the door, demanding a higher tip. For food that is always decent, but never mind blowing to be paired with this type of service… I question if I will really ever return here. Such a shame.

Came here for Saturday lunch with my friend from out of town who was feeling authentic sushi. The restaurant is definitely authentic in décor, with traditional Japanese tables(seats on the mats) and traditional service(we pretty much closed down the restaurant long after our lunch and were not disturbed at all). The restaurant was not too crowded at 1:30 and my friend and I enjoyed catching up in such a nice zen environment. I got the lunch special where you basically create your own Bentox box: miso soup(very good), salad with carrot dressing(very good), spicy tuna roll(plump, not too spicy), salmon/tuna sashimi(fleshy and fresh), and perhaps Surprisingly good the BBQ eel which I don’t normally like. The box also came with tempura, Which was a standard shrimp and vegetable. Good. And a good value for quality around $ 20 or so. They offered rice, I declined. My friend went for the cooked items and got The pork curry katsu, which was a lot more curry than meat but it seemed good… and thick. Her meal came with the same starters the salad and the miso soup but it ended with a really interesting but good banana mochi ice cream. Overall I don’t think it’s the best sushi ever had but it’s definitely good quality and very authentic at reasonable price point and there’s a bunch of variety given that they do both sushi and cooked items such as katsu and teriyaki and noodles… But I would definitely stick with the sushi here. Definitely worth returning if I’m in the area.

After a work social, I went with colleagues and my boss impromptu at around 6:30pm. It wasn’t that packed yet and they took down my name wrong. I had reserved the place only 45 minutes before, so I don’t want to be a pain about it but it was a bit odd that my Japanese name was miraculously changed to Jodie(and hence, they told me there were no reservations for us). We were promptly seated and we ordered at least half the dishes from the appetizers menu and some sushi for all four of us to share. Frankly, I can’t remember which exactly dish we all got since I was a bit tipsy — we also had bottles of hot sake there, which was pretty bomb too. I liked the atmosphere — quite cozy, and it was mostly businessmen still in suits. I wouldn’t say that the sushi/sashimi was top notch, but it was pretty decent.

2.5 star. I used to go to tsushima for lunch all the time when they were at the old location. I have not try their lunch menu at this new location but I have tried their dinner twice and both times were very disappointing! The only reason I came back is because they are one of the only place you could go on a friday night in midtown without reservation and still get a table. Both times I was here I tried different food from their menu, everything tasted bland, nothing is really good and nothing is really bad either. Their sushi was just ok. I had the seared salmon with lemon and I did not get the charred taste from searing the fish… Somehow their food looks good but they are all missing something… The pprtions were ridiculously small, its ok to have quality over quantity but their quality are just so so… The only saving grace is the uni chawanmushi. Service was pretty bad too, consider the restaurant is relatively small and they had like 5 servers the night I was there, somehow their service was so disorganize. There is an old asian male waiter who is particularly rude. We waited a long time for our appetizers, when our main sushi entrée came, we inquire about our appetizer. He looked annoyed and said to us «we are very busy today, you can eat your sushi first» and walked away. Also most japanese restaurants give you a cup of tea with the check before you go. He came to give us the check and he asked«you dont want tea right?» He should be working at a fast food restaurant instead of in a restaurant that charges pretty steep price. I really hope he is gone if I do decide to come back.

I really enjoyed my second visit here, so I think that warrants a 5 star from me. Having already tried their sushi and sashimi, I decided to try their other offerings: Shrimp Croquette — This was one of their $ 5 appetizers. It comes with two, both cut in half. The croquette is essentially fried mashed potatoes wrapped around shrimp. It was really light and not oily at all. Great starter to share for two. Grilled Salmon Collar w/Salt — Another one of their $ 5 appetizers. It seemed small and dry at first, but the meat close to the bone was really delicious and fatty. I wish I also got to try the Grilled Amberjack Neck. Futomaki roll — At $ 15, they give you 8 large pieces. I really love futomaki rolls. The combination of pickled vegetables, egg, and eel just really appeals to me. I think there could have been more eel in this roll, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The egg was so large and fluffy. The ginger they give seems better than average. Really fresh and not to pickled. Mackerel and Ginger roll — I tried this off of my friend’s plate. It is fresh, but it has a really strong fishy taste that needs some getting used to. I didn’t dislike it, but it wasn’t one of my favorites. Sunday seems to be the day to go for a nice quiet atmosphere. I guess this wouldn’t be considered the absolute best Japanese restaurant in the city, but it is very reasonably priced. The staff is mostly all Japanese. Their English isn’t great, but they are all very courteous. Definitely a place I will frequent more than once.
