Sweet Life Pastry

What an adorable little spot! I could barely pull my eyes away from the case of delectable cakes to look at the chalkboard which has all the basic Mexican savories you could want PLUS breakfasty items like all sorts of french toast, pancakes and huevos rancheros.
Our ravenous selves ordered just too much: a steak quesadilla, a steak torta, the red velvet/​flan/​chocolate cake slice (all that in one! yes, it can be done! — this is my homage to dr. seuss), and the tres leches strawberries slice. The food, made fresh, takes a bit of time, but it is hot and tasty when it finally arrives.
The steak is more of a braised flank steak here, a bit stringy, but flavorful. The version that comes in the quesadilla, which is likely the same as the taco, is better than the torta, where the steak is battered and fried. The torta comes topped with just a tomato, some stringy Mexican cheese and sliced avocado, and coulda used more freshness from lettuce. We would probably skip this next time. However, the quesadilla is a fun mess to eat, a crisp tortilla moon filled with steak, topped with shredded lettuce, avocado slices, chopped tomato and crema. I doused each bite with the yummy tomatilla sauce for a burst of freshness and a hint of spice.
The cakes are really great. The three flavored cake is well done and balanced in flavor — if you want to go wild, there’s a four flavor cake which has a layer of the tres leches which I highly recommend. The strawberries tres leches is a dessert of my dreams, like if a strawberry shortcake had babies with tres leches, this would be it, and I would inhale that baby with a few swift bites. So moist, with the right amount of sweetness coming from the chunks of fresh, strawberries and whipped cream. Instantly enamored, I ordered a cupcake (which isn’t iced here, so I technically call it a muffin which I saved for breakfast), and an Oreo cheesecake. I cannot wait to devour that in the name of research later today.

I kind of wish this place didn’t exist because it is way too tempting for me to order lunch instead of being good and packing something homemade.
Everything I’ve ordered has been delicious. I’m a particularly huge fan of the huevos rancheros and the veggie burrito! Biscuits are fabulous and soft and the goat cheese scone is also a winner. My coworkers have sampled all the quesadillas and enjoy them immensely.
Very fast delivery, even to our weird work location, which gives most other delivery places a bit of a headache to find!

Don’t be fooled by the name – Sweet Life has the best damn tacos in Washington Heights.
$ 2.50 a pop for dank steak tacos (or chicken, pork, whatever you like) filled with all the goods you could want. Pour their homemade green sauce liberally and squeeze lime for the full effect. Two is a meal, three is a feast. Sweet life indeed.
ATTENTION WHITE PEOPLE:
When you eat at Sweet Life, please do us all a favor and tip $ 4 or so. This meal is easily worth $ 10 to you, and we want to make sure this place stays in business as more and more of us non-​Dominican transplants move into Quisqueya Heights. Your dollar is a vote – if you love this neighborhood, this is how you preserve it.

Their upside down pineapple cake is the best I’ve ever tasted. They usually have it out to sell by the slice but it goes so quickly I never get a chance to buy it. So, I’m forced to special order an entire cake. I also order it to bring to any special occasion. It’s always a hit.
Also recommended: the berry bread pudding, reg flan, and the German chocolate cake.
I keep getting told the huevos rancheros are great. That’s next on my list.

Sweet Life Pastry is my new go-​to for good Mexican pan dulce and cake in while by Columbia. The staff is always so pleasant and the offerings are always fresh.
There is a variable menu of special products as well as some great stable core items. The dulce de leche and tiramisu are great but what I really come here for is the pan dulce (in the cabinet left of the counter). It definitely is the best in the area and comparable to those found in Corona, Queens.

This is a gem in the neighborhood. This is amazing food, and not just for the neighborhood. It is really a hidden gem!

This place is awesome. Super cheap, family owned, everyone is really friendly, HUGE MENU of Mexican food and pastries. Also, literally the best huevos rancheros I’ve ever had.

Nice little bakery located a couple blocks away from the hospital. Cheap eats, good food, and extremely friendly staff. What more can you ask for?

Ordered breakfast and lunch! I like having these kind of options available to me in the neighborhood. Quite and quaint place with a very friendly staff.

I give this small café five stars for exceptional service and friendliness.
I got a cappuccino … not the one with latte art on top… but a $ 1.50 espresso/​milk drink that was served with a smile.
As I walked out somebody brought out fresh out of the oven conchas from the bakery in the back. I learned that is a sweet bread. «Did I want to taste ?» I was asked. Absolutely! So so good.

All the sweet stuff here is incredible, I could eat the key lime pie all day, alllllll day. This morning I decided to try the breakfast, I had eggs with bacon cheese and avocad on a biscuit and it was the best breakfast sandwich of all time this week. The biscuit was super flaky and delicious and the rest of the eggy stuff was perfect. Conclusion– everything here is amazing, they are wizards. Also, PS, they have crazy magic hybrids like a chocolate red velvet flan cake, all 3 in one, and a spinach cheddar muffin that’s the best muffin you’ll ever have. Go now and order everything.

Family run establishment. Don’t be fooled by the name. Not only is this place top notch for deserts their authentic Mexican food is out of this world. Order out or eat in. You will not be disappointed. Their prices are extremely reasonable. I would recommend this place to anyone. Ignacia, the owner is a wonderful woman. :)

My favorite place to get green juice! Order their french toast you wont regret it soooo yummy! Super friendly, fast, and delicious food.

My go-​to bakery in Washington Heights! I lived nearby when they changed management around May of 2014. They reopened and started warmly, hospitably serving delicious pancakes, with blueberries, served in a small sitting area. The mom made some mouthwatering cakes, which we bought by the slice to take home for a special treat. The daughter was always so proud of her mom’s work, it was just heartwarming to go there, whether for take-​out or a sitdown pastry/​coffee shop with my husband. The pastries kept a good variety, too, so I never got tired of going there. That mom seems to have an endless supply of great Mexican
cake recipes in her keeping. Daughter and coworkers are bilingual, Mom had only Spanish. Wonderful place.

I spend ½ of my time in New York. Because of so much traveling, I simply do not have time to cook. I am not ashamed to say that whenever I am in the city I order from this place EVERY DAY. Yes, every day… or at least every other.
They are so consistent and provide so many delicious options. I always crave the tacos when I am out of town, they are incredible. The donuts are wonderful (I should lay off of those for a bit however :) …) Fresh green juice, orange juice etc. Delicious coffee. Order everything! I am a loyal Sweet Life customer. I am very grateful that I found them via seamless web.

I have some great experiences here! The breakfast, the coffee, the entrees! Absolutely delicious. The french toast is amazing! Can’t wait to try another item on the menu.

The most adorable family-​run bakery. I was craving flan and found this hole in the wall business. The minute you walk in you smell FRESH pastries; you can see people baking in the back, cupcakes/​buffins on the cooling rack and options, lots of it.
I tasted the flan and chocolate mousse cake and it was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back. Prices are reasonable, $ 5 credit card minimum which is great.

I LOVE this place, I normally order here on the weekends it’s my tried and true favorite neighborhood spot to order from. They have phenomenal food and the prices are great. They have several vegetarian selections. I love the tacos and the flourless chocolate cake is AMAZING. You can order through seamless and it’s arrives really quick.
It’s great to experience a family owned business. If you’re ever in Washington Heights try it out.

They have inexpensive, good espresso. Pastries are fantastic, both Latino (flan, Mexican sweet breads) and non-​Latino (scones, custard doughnuts, German chocolate cake). The cakes are beautiful. The owner and her staff are hard-​working and effortlessly polite.
If you want to patronize a high-​quality, family-​owned business, this is the one in Washington Heights. Highly recommended.

When you come I ask for a paper menu, it is FAR more comprehensive than the chalk boards.
1. Iced coffee– tasty, normal iced coffee. They have Splenda and equal as artificial sweeteners. Only two bucks for a good size though, which was nice.
2. Pancakes– they serve breakfast all day. These pancakes were oddly tart and not sweet. I honestly wouldn’t do them again.
3. Cook time– takes a while to be honest, but the people who work there are nice.
