Tavern on Jane

a lovely neighborhood restaurant. The salmon dinner is delicious. The salmon has a light,
(outer) crust and is simply cooked. I’ve thought about ordering other dishes, in the restaurant, but the salmon is so delicious that I keep coming back, for more. I highly recommend it.

after getting through some bumps on the complexities of what you can and can not change about the fabulous brunch prix fixe option my boyfriend and i had a great sunday brunch here.
so for $ 22 you can get 1 boozy brunch drink, 1 coffee or tea, a choice of 1 entrée from +10 items and a muffin basket. things that you can not do with this option, order a fancier bloody such as the ballpark bloody that i got. i wrongly assumed they would just tack on a few extra bucks to the $ 22, but no… i ended up just having to get another drink. you can not order any of the prix fixe items ala carte. its either the whole nine yards or something else on the menu with an actual $$ price sitting directly next to it.
on to food! the bloodies were great! i appreciated them being served in a normal 8oz sized glass! i also liked the overall menu variety, there was a lot of tasty sounding brunch items to choose from ranging from steak sandwiches, to chicken to waffles, to huevos rancheros. i ordered some chipotle chilaquiles and my boyfriend got the steak sandwich. the portions were huge and came out quickly. we were both in small food comas after completing our meal.
overall the experience here was great. other Unilocal reviews complained out service, but i found the two waitresses that were working to be very attentive and friendly. would come back again for this brunch deal.

Great neighborhood go to. Love the wings, the kale salad and the brussel sprouts are fabulous. Constantly good!

I cam here on a pinch with a group of girls. Not the best brunch spot– it’s just OKAY. I ordered a basic eggs, bacon, and toast. I don’t know how they got that wrong… but it wasn’t all that great!

went here with my family for late brunch over the weekend. i asked for a consensus score from all before posting; the range was 1 to 3 and i’m going at the high end of the group’s score.
everything started great. beautiful sunny winter day, friendly waitress, bloody mary’s — oops, first hint of a problem. our bloody’s all came in glasses just packed with ice. on the refill we asked for half ice, and out they come in these little 7 or 8 oz. like beer glasses. really? to save $.20 of BM mix we get small glasses? issue 1.
we all ordered off the pre fixe brunch menu that included a bloody mary or mimosa. i ordered a ‘sea mary’ that was an additional $ 1 ($ 12 instead of $ 11). when the bill came we were charged full price instead of the difference for my daughters bloody with tito’s and my sea mary. issue 2.
to be fair, food was fantastic. my wife’s vegatable fritata was spectacular, my santa fe benedict was special. everyone loved their food and hence, the 3 rating.
during our meal, the restaurant got a lot busier, and we completely lost our waitress. not that we had to ask for service, i mean we literally didn’t see her again. no follow-​up, no check, gone! my son went up to get the bill, then walked back to the bar to pay and settle up. service went from pleasant to horrible. issue 3.
all-​up, very cute restaurant and food is fantastic. the bloody mary thing was just stupid and left a horrible taste in everyone’s mouth (no pun intended). but the service was really problematic, and really not acceptable for a nice restuarant.
will probably give it another try to see if this was an outlier.

Came to this place after another restaurant nearby only took cash and my group didn’t want to waste time finding an ATM. Already Hangry and tired, we came to this place ready to eat. Our order was taken promptly. I ordered the Creekstone burger which was the most expensive one on the menu. The burger included string fries and a side of fried Brussel sprouts. I was really hoping this burger would be everything the menu made it seem to be. Unfortately it was not. The burger tasted like the quality of a 5 Guys burger. There was no flavor. It’s really saying something when the best part of my dish was the Brussel sprouts.
In the giving mood my group shared food so I also sampled the Kale, Cranberry, & Walnut salad. It had the makings to be great except for the fact that they chose a lemony vingegarette to top it with. The flavor was just so overpowering you couldn’t enjoy anything else in the salad.
The food here is mediocre at best. Given the price ti’s definitely not worth it. If I’m ever around the Jane Street area again, I’ll remember to bring cash next time and go to the first restaurant we tried.

Solidly good food AND crayons to draw on the tabletop paper? I’m sold. I’ve been to Tavern on Jane a few times, and have never been disappointed. There are always several good vegetarian options on the menu, and the drinks are great. Prices are reasonable given the location. Service is not particularly attentive, but that works out just fine for those meals where you want to linger for awhile talking after finishing your food.

You cannot go wrong with the pork chop and fish n chips as dinner entres. I recommend pairing the pork chop work the carignan wine from the Russian Valley. The mussels were a great appetizer as well.

I came to Tavern on Jane for my friend’s bridal shower. The bridal party found a spot that had a private dining room. Well, semi private (there isn’t a door but it was still enclosed) but intimate for a close friend’s gathering. Always a plus since it’s hard to find a decently priced private space in NYC, right?
Service was fantastic. Our server was very attentive & was always around to help the bridesmaids. That another is a plus. Check!
Food was pretty good. We were served mini muffins & croissants w/​jam, preserves & butter to start. Everyone also had an entrée for brunch. I opted for a veggie omelette, which you can’t really mess up. My eggs were slightly runny, just the way I like them. Some people did say theirs (overeasy eggs) were slightly over cooked (same goes for the steak in the steak & eggs).
Overall, Tavern on Jane was a decent brunch spot, especially if you’re looking to chill out w/​a group of friends :)

What can I say? It’s our living room. The food is all American home deliciousness. The bartenders know how to make drinks, make sure you the customer is happy and they know how to serve food. They remember the locals, their food choices and drink choices. Hands down — the best Cobb salad I’ve ever had — but we substitute spinach for the lettuce and cheddar for the blue cheese. They have hearty chili and solid light pizzas and tacos. The kitchen closes around 1 and the bar stays open until 4, every night! It’s a locals bar and you’ll occasionally see a local celebrity.

Such a lucky find! I was with a group of 9 girls (bachelorette party) on Saturday night and we had just finished up a Watson Adventures High Line scavenger hunt. We were hungry, but also dressed in matching hot pink bachelorette themed t-​shirts, so obviously we were not getting a table anywhere in the MPD. A quick Unilocal search later we found Tavern On Jane. We called and they said we could be seated right away, no problem. 8pm on a Saturday night. Wow! This both amazed and pleased me.
The menu was diverse enough to satisfy the carnivores, the vegetarian, and even the picky eaters. Complimentary bread and butter. Quick service. Price point was great, too– dinner and drinks came to less than $ 50 per person! A steal for this area.
While the meal was far from memorable I was very content with the overall experience and would happily try this place for brunch!

This is my 2^nd time coming here, but my first time for Brunch. I wanted to give this place more stars but the service was so bad. We had a reservation for 9 at 12:30. It was surprisingly empty. Maybe one or two other tables had customers. We were seated in a room around the corner from the main dining area.
There appeared to be only one or two people serving. After our group was all seated, our waitress disappeared. One of us had to leave the table to get her to come take our orders.
After our tea, coffee and bread baskets were brought out, the server quickly went out of the room without asking we needed anything else. He hadn’t brought out enough plates for everyone to eat the pastries and some of us wanted honey and cream for our tea and coffees. The server finally came back so we can ask for it.
All of our entrees came with toast but only some of us received it. It was also brought out one by one on separate plates well after we started eating. We had ask them to bring out a jug of water to leave at the table so we can refill it ourselves because they kept taking so long for everything. I should also add that at one point the server was reaching over the table to hand my friend her mimosa and some of it spilled on the table and on my other friend’s shoulder.
So overall I thought the food was good – not great and the service was poor. I felt bad for the server who was clearly overwhelmed but, I don’t think I’ll be back to give them another chance. Frankly, I think I’m being generous by giving them 3 stars.

After strolling the Highline and grabbing coffee nearby, we were ready for a hearty dinner. We wanted somewhere nearby that wasn’t too expensive, loud, and we could get a seat without a long wait.
The Tavern was exactly what we were looking for. It’s spacious, laid back, feels like a neighborhood destination for locals, and has a pretty solid menu of typical tavern fare.
I had a beer and splurged on their $ 20 aged burger. It was worth it. The burger it self was extremely juicy, topped with bacon, and had a mountain of thinly fried potato shavings on top. For the side it came with fried Brussels sprouts that were unique and addicting. My girlfriend kept stealing them. Naturally I took some of her tacos which were really good for a tavern!
I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for somewhere laid back with great food.

Nice place! We made brunch reservations with some friends who have a 1.5 year old. This restaurant is definitely family friendly. They had a high chair and a kid brunch menu available which seemed really helpful to our friends (the parents).
It was really easy to make reservations, the service is really good, and the food is good and it’s an excellent value for what you get. The brunch has a pre-​fixe menu which comes with a drink, food, and a basket of muffins and croissants which are delicious.
The ambiance is nice as well. This is a great spot!

I came here with my girlfriends about a month ago, celebrating bachelorette weekend! I emailed the manager to make a reservation and they were extremely accommodating! The food was great, it’s a cozy space, we had a great time!
Next time we are in New York we will be back!

I came here with my family on a Thursday evening by the recommendation of fellow Unilocalers. While I wasn’t completely enamored by my meal, my parents were satisfied with their short ribs and steak respectively; I venture to say that their buffalo wings are the best in the city. They possessed a perfect amount of heat and crispiness that I found myself craving ever since. Most wing joints in the nearby area cannot hold a candle to how fantastic these are. While I wouldn’t suggest Tavern on Jane for a remarkable sit down dinner service I will absolutely rave about their wings for happy hour to anyone who’s looking to be buffalown* out of the water.
*Sorry. Really, really, good wings can bring a bad pun out in a girl.

Lovely place! I quite enjoyed the ambiance here! Cozy, inviting, and just a nice place to be. The tables have white tablecloths and there is a layer of white paper on top where you can draw whimsically with colorful crayons.
The fried brussel sprouts with small amounts of bacon, and apples was very tasty. A different way of eating those sprouts.
The banana fudge ice cream was really good as well, and unique. Smooth texture and neither banana nor fudge flavor stood out, rather it was blended well together.
I like this place! Relaxed vibe!

This was a very interesting place and I feel undecided on how I feel for it. We wanted to go for dinner at a place that was less touristy and had its own feel. We definitely got that part! The place is very lovely and staff treated us as if we were around the block.
The meal was great and fairly priced for value. Table was simple and had drawing paper over it with crayons for ppl to draw. :) first I thought that was strange but its amazing how one starts drawing during a conversation.
Only thing I felt against it was how there was a character split between diners and groups at bar there for drinks. Place was extremely loud towards 9pm and many were standing about. It became uncomfortable was playing against the neat ambiance it set up.
Perhaps it’s all about the right time right place for this tavern. Cheers!

I probably wouldn’t have figured this place out if it wasn’t for friends organizing a brunch here.
And then of course, I looked on Unilocal to see how people liked it. And one thing lead to another, and I found a 50% off deal on Scoutmob.
We had a large party of 9 and they easily accommodated us. We had reservations for noon and were able to sit down immediately.
There is a pre fixe brunch menu for $ 20, which comes with a basket of muffins and croissants, coffee or tea, an alcoholic beverage to your liking and an entrée.
I made the mistake of not ordering any alcohol (as it was included in my meal), but honestly, I needed a break from drinking. I ordered the Eggs Benedict.
Some of friends ordered the brunch burrito, and Banana Foster French toast. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, and the French toast plate is big enough for 2.
My brain must have been in the OFF mode and somehow I forgot that Eggs Benedict could possibly have meat tucked in. Luckily, I was able to just put aside the Canadian bacon and continue to enjoy the eggs. My dish was solid, no complaints here.
And when we closed out the tab, I was able to apply my coupon to the table. Only one coupon could be used, but hey that’s still $ 20 off. Sweet.
Would definitely recommend this place for a large party, service was decent, food solid and the place isn’t crowded and also has a nice fireplace.
