The Big Quiz Thing

The public events are so much fun. Just the right mix if competition, comedy and irreverence. No need to bring a team, just come and join one (or bring one — very entertaining). As others have said, the corporate events are a hoot. They customize them to make them even more special.

Fun time, but not quite what is advertised.
Show was advertised as 1 — 3 pm, but was really 1:15 until only 2:25. Not great when you’re entertaining a group of kids until a certain time.
Questions were age appropriate for 10 to 12 year olds.
Much lower tech setup than the pictures on website.

I would strongly recommend hiring The Big Quiz Thing for any event! We used them for a department outing and it was a big hit.
Everyone there was organized; they responded to our emails within hours and worked with us to tailor our event. Noah was extremely entertaining and did a great job of keeping our group of 60 people engaged. The trivia was very personalized and he came up with funny company-​specific questions. It was a great mix of challenging, random and silly questions.
Very fun!

We booked Noah from The Big Quiz Thing for our team social outing and
it was quite an evening. Every single member (about 35) thanked me
for booking this event. Noah and his assistant were humorous and so
knowledgeable. It was a definite ice breaker and we all were able to
gain trivia knowledge as well as learn a little more about each other.
Every round was interesting and different. There were so many
categories and we enjoyed each round thoroughly.
Everything from planning the event, to the end of the event was very
organized and The Big Quiz Thing team couldn’t be any more accommodating!
We had already booked a venue and Noah went to the location before the
event to make sure that everything would be able to be set up properly.
They also check with you to see if any topics are off limits as well
as if there are any topics you would like to include. You can’t go
wrong with this trivia party because it truly is so much fun and
unique! Great time had by all!

NOT FOR THE FAMILY! I went to the World Café Live in Philadelphia lastnight, really looking forward to clean night of entertainment. After viewing a few shows online, and reading the reviews I was very excited to try this out.
It was simple at first, no problem, maybe some double ontandras ok. Then came the sexual references, then after a several references to male genitalia and other inappropriate material that is NOT suitable for all ages, my whole group of 10 decided to leave. It really put a damper on it because I had ppl come from DE and other parts of PA that are not so close. We had to take our business else where.
THE BIG QUIZ THING should note that all of the «jokes» and movie clips are not always appropriate for the family and be sure the venue knows this and posts that information as well.

The Big Quiz Thing is absolutely brilliant! After going to one of their Trivia Quiz nights at Sub Culture and having so much fun we decided to host our own The Big Quiz Thing party at our apartment. Noah was phenomenal. We had nearly 60 people attend (some of them professed Trivia haters) and everyone loved it… Noah was funny and engaging and his questions were challenging and eclectic (there were video and audio questions). We had the party catered and no one was interested in the food it was all about the competition!
Keeping an audience engaged and entertained for 90 plus minutes is not easy but Noah made it look effortless. He genuinely wanted this event to be a great experience for everyone and his level of professionalism was second to none. He arrived with his assistant (Thomas) an hour and a half before the Quiz started to set up. When we made our initial booking he also came to see our space so he could figure out the best way to run the event.
I cannot recommend The Big Quiz enough. Go have a fun night at one of their events (different venues throughout the city) or hire them for your own party or corporate event. Either way it’s a really fun night. Due to pressure from our friends we are already planning our Next The Big Quiz Thing party!

My friend won a custom trivia party by The Big Quiz Thing and it was a total blast. It was like playing trivia at a favorite bar, except everyone you’re competing against is a friend. Can’t beat that!
Every round was a little bit different. Asides from classic trivia, there were well thought-​out rebus puzzles (using pictures and letters to represent words) and the staff even created a rebus puzzle in honor of my friend– so cute!
Some of the other cool categories involved the host playing a movie clip with sound from a different film, and you had to name both films. The music rounds were the best– though where three songs were played per question and all three went together somehow. For example, one answer was Rick James, James Taylor, Taylor Swift.
In general, the game was very organized and colorful and the questions were just the right amount of difficult where you were having fun but still challenging yourself.
Also– I know that prior to the event, the staff reached out to my friend to ask what kind of trivia she’d prefer (more pop culture focused, more geeky, etc) so it can pretty custom to your liking.
Really, There were about 30 of us at this party and it was a total blast. Everyone just had such a good time. Definitely a fun, different idea for a party.
Oh, and the staff are sweethearts too! They’re donating a free trivia party (probably just like the one I went to) as a silent auction prize for the fundraiser of a charity I volunteer for. So, not only is it super fun– the people who work here have good hearts.

I have been attending The Big Quiz Thing on and off for years. It has moved to different venues in the years so check their website frequently for location.
I love how fun this trivia game is. There are video and audio rounds which are my favorite rounds.
No other trivia night I’ve attended thus far anywhere in the city or Long Island can measure up.
So why 3 stars? When I started years ago admission to attend this trivia game was only $ 5. It slowly crept up to $ 7, then $ 10 and now $ 12. I am unemployed so $ 12 for admission alone is quite steep.
Even worse is there is a minimum purchase instituted by some of the venues. I saw, as of late, a minimum purchase requirement of $ 15 which is okay if the food is any good but it wasn’t.
Please don’t let this review deter you from experiencing the best trivia game ever. I just wanted to warn you of the flip side.
I would have given The Big Quiz Thing a 5-​star if it wasn’t for the steep admission and minimum purchase requirement at venues with less than mediocre food.

Look, there’s really no substitute for the real thing. The Big Quiz Thing is now a NYC institution, and rightfully so. It’s not «bar trivia,» it’s a real contest that actually challenges and, holy cow, teaches. If you fancy yourself a trivia buff and you haven’t been to this show, well, you’re, um, not.

ok, let me start by saying that this is a fine trivia quiz. it’s well run, the questions are fun, the pace is good, etc. the host is funny, and overall i had a nice time.
here’s what wasn’t so spectacular. it’s $ 10 (you knew that). and for $ 10, your trivia quiz better be many times better than the many, many free pub quizzes around the city. this one just isn’t. it’s good, but not $ 10 better.
but you’re probably thinking to yourself, «hey, there’s prize money. my team could walk away with the $ 200 for first place.» let me break this to you gently. you won’t. the quiz is about 70−80% regulars — guys who come every week and always place in the top 3. so unless you’re friends with those people, you’re just going to be out $ 10.
still, it’s fun and i enjoyed the smart ass points. but there are plenty of free pub quizzes that are just as fun that i’ll probably go to instead.

We hired The Big Quiz Thing for a trivia event at the Google office in NYC for about 70 people. From the time I first reached out to Noah, he went above and beyond to provide the best experience for our group. He asked me a lot of good probing questions in order to create a show that would appeal to our audience and offered to customize it accordingly. He was always quick to respond to my emails and generally really easy to work with.
The night of the event, we had some technical issues, but Noah and Eric were total pros and made it work at the last minute. The purpose of our event was to bring people from different departments together to get to know each other and we had a lot of people who had never done trivia before, so it was not an easy crowd. However, Noah and Eric got everyone pumped up when the show started and kept the energy high throughout.
I’ve been to around 10 different trivia shows at different bars, but this was by far the best and most entertaining game I’ve played. Noah is a real showman and has great rapport with Eric; they were really genuinely funny and never veered into cheesy territory. The game itself was fantastic, with creative questions and some non-​traditional rounds, like a video round where they played clips from movies but the audio playing was from a different movie and you had to guess both movies playing at once. The wide variety of questions was really valuable, as we had a really diverse group and it kept everyone engaged and feeling like they had something to contribute to their team. Between rounds, they played music and gave people enough time to mingle and grab more drinks and food, and the timing of the whole thing was perfect.
We’ve had a lot of events like this at Google but this had the best response of any that I’ve organized or attended. People really had an awesome time and asked that we bring The Big Quiz Thing back for another event.
Whether you’re looking for a really fun and special event for your office or want to go out and play with a few friends, I can’t recommend these guys enough!

Even if I really like something, I tend not to hand out Five Stars all willy-​nilly because it just cheapens the accomplishment, and 99 times out of 100 there has to be something greater to aspire to. But the Big Quiz Thing really is as good as it gets for NYC trivia events.
What the BQT is NOT is ‘just another trivia night,’ and for the price of admission, you’re getting an evening of entertainment at cool venues and a real mental challenge that ends up feeling more like you crashed the taping of a satisfyingly cerebral game show.
Worth It!

As far as trivia nights go, this show takes the cake. A friend invited me last Monday, and whoa… it was sssssssssssssuuuuuuuuuuper crowded. Oh, and there was a $ 10 cover. Harumph. I kind of felt like purchasing some food and drinks should perhaps lend to an ever so slightly less cover charge, but truly, this was a ton of fun. And very well put on. In any event, I ended up on a team where everyone took things quite seriously indeed. I almost felt that letting my geek flag fly was nothing in comparison to these folks. But don’t let my feelings of inadequacy keep you from having a rollicking cerebral time. Oh, and you get bonus points for smart-​ass answers. SOLD!

You have to love The Big Quiz Thing. Well… not legally, of course, but in theory, you gotta love it.
5 rounds of smart, entertaining trivia surrounded by some of the smartest, most competitive dorks in NYC. Let’s face it… you’re probably never gonna find the Cash Cab, and this is the next best thing. You got to stay in one place, maybe win some cash, and maybe even get a little buzzed. Sounds good, right?

I’m so happy Quizmaster Noah finally brought the Big Quiz Thing to D.C.!! It was a small crowd, but super fun. And I’m not only saying that because my team won. The questions are the kind that are entertaining even if you don’t know the answers. And Noah has all the mechanics down, too — he runs the game fairly, explains the rules clearly, all that stuff. It’s easy to hear him. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to be trying to play a quiz and not be able to hear what’s going on. Does this complaint make me sound old? Oh well. Noah rocks. Go play the Big Quiz Thing. Good times.

I’ve been coming to Big Quiz Thing off and on since 2003 and the event is always consistently fun. I you don’t have a team, you can show up and find one, but having a regular team is part of the charm. There are team names (some of them probably not Unilocal-​safe) that BQT just wouldn’t be the same without.
There’s always an audio and video round plus assorted trivia about the news, pop culture, sports, history, the arts, NYC, anything and everything. I personally get maybe 1 or 2 questions per time, but I still have a great time because there’s such a variety of things asked and people are just genuinely into what they’re doing. Some teams/​attendees are more competitive than others but I wouldn’t say it’s cutthroat.
At $ 7, it’s a cheap night of fun and you are guaranteed to learn something. You will also learn that things you think you know might leave your brain at a crucial moment or random facts may be resurrected. When you do know an answer and no one else on your team does, you get to feel like a rockstar. There’s a community to this event, from Noah and Eric and DJ Gretchen to the fellow teams and a friendly spirit, even when it’s down to the wire at the end when the top 3 teams compete. I’ve always enjoyed BQT and like their trivia format. The show goes on for about 2 hours, which is perfect timing; longer would start to feel like too much. You also have the chance to win random treats for «smart a – » points (funny answers when you don’t know the real one). They’ve recently added a «not so secret secret clue» where you can check their Facebook or Twitter the day of the event. Pop culture lovers will especially enjoy this event but anyone who thinks they have some knowledge should stop by. Get there early for seats because it fills up fast.

Quizmaster Noah Tarnow puts so much juice into this bi-​weekly show that you’d have to be a total grumpy jerk not to have fun. The questions and categories here are so much more comprehensive than any other trivia show in the city, and the stakes are yummier — cakes, cookies, muffins, etc. If you can come in the top five here, you are among the best in New York City at trivia, my friends.

I don’t always win money at The Big Quiz Thing, but I always have a good time.
Bar trivia events are plentiful in NYC, every night, every borough (perhaps even Staten Island), but there are some that rise to the top of the pack. Have you ever been to such an event, and though, «this is amateur hour!». Well, you know what, that’s really mean, someone worked really hard on that. But rest assured no such thought will cross your mind at the end of your first BQT experience, the gold standard of NYC trivia.
Quizmaster Noah Tarnow– and his sidekicks EDP and DJ GB– put together a show that is equal parts professional, fun, and nerdy as all heck (apologies for the potty mouth). 5 rounds of trivia, including one audio round and one video round, all team-​oriented. The questions can be intense, but plan ahead… clues and tips are available on the interwebs. And you can win $ 200 and/​or cookies!
Let’s face it… you and your friends were gonna go out drinking after work on Monday anyway. Why not do it in a setting that utilizes those precious brain cells before we drink them away?

I came here with a friend of mine, and upon arrival we were immediately intimidated by the crowd. We’re in our early 20’s amongst a crowd of nerdy (yet awesome) adults anywhere btwn 10 – 20 years older than us, with a hint of people around our age.
As you walk inside, you pay the lady $ 7, grab a good seat, I’d suggest the front for a better view of the projector screen, and walk up to Noah (host) and grab a quiz sheet. Be prepared to answer 5 rounds of what felt like the hardest questions in the world (study before hand). You’re playing for points, and a grand prize of $ 200. Although my team, was sadly, in last place, we had a really fun time. And I got to meet a couple of people and made some friends.
1. Come with a GROUP of SMART friends, or not, but you’re guaranteed a good time.
2. Be prepared to answer questions from pop culture to politics and history.
3. $ 7.00 to play
4. The crowd gets very intense
5. Host is hilarious
6. If you don’t know the answer you get points if its a «smart ass» answer
7. The rounds not only involve questions, but video and pictures.
8. Having a drink and playing trivia with your friends is a lot of fun.

10. I left smiling and felt the need to go home and study, and not for the next game, but for myself. felt a little dumb after.
