The Evolution Store

Definitely a unique shopping experience! After viewing the photos for Evo on Unilocal I was super excited to buy my seahorse-​obsessed friend with an actual seahorse that I’m pretty sure was sealed in resin. But, alas, there were no seahorses to be purchased upon my visit. I realize that Evo doesn’t have normal merch, but I was still a bit upset. However, the store is virtually a mini museum of animals and bones and other non-​traditional gifts. Definitely worth a look-​see but don’t count on specific animals being avail! (for obv reasons, haha)

This has been one of my favorite spots in the city for years. It is entirely unique in its coolness, of which there is no shortage.

Just wow! This place is amazing. Didn’t think it gets better till I found out they had a second floor. Can be costly but they do have a lot of little things you can buy. I would no doubt go back.

Not sure why I thought this is a place I could buy NY souvenirs, so I was pretty lost looking up and down the store. However I was pleasantly surprised the moment I moved my head upwards to the ceiling. The artwork and prints are gorgeous.
This is The Evolution Store, meaning you see skeletons of mammals, dated fossils, pieces of meteors from centuries ago, and beautiful insects. This is like a museum!!! To think I was sick of seeing the same modern/contemporary/I-don’t-know-anymore art in NY, seeing the historic specimens here is awesome.
Definitely would return!* It’s two floors with a LOT to see.

I visited the store yesterday and I liked it very much, but the rudeness of the girl at the counter next to the door made me lose my interest. I was looking at the t shirts behind her, and she got upset as if i was looking at her ! And she has nothing to look at

Some of the employees are people you just instantly know are going to be awesome. Others… less so. Still, this place is something else. If they ever get peacock ore, I’ll be first in line.

I like to visit the store whenever I’m NYC — mainly to ogle the human skulls that I hope I can afford to buy someday. It’s also a great place to pick up interesting (and relatively inexpensive) trinkets to give to friends and family. The only bad part is that it’s ALWAYS crowded — it’s become a tourist spot, and rightly so.
The online shopping experience and customer service is freaking flawless. I bought a little something to send to my redditgifts match and had requested some ridiculous shit in my comments/​notes box during checkout. I didn’t think they’d pay much attention to it.
I was so, so, wrong.
Ryan the Shipping Magnate, who is a god amongst men and has the patience of a saint and a really good sense of humor, indulged said requests (except gift wrapping, which they don’t do… yet.) Check out the photos, as they say it all.
The turnaround is super fast: I ordered on June 2, everything was ready to be shipped by June 4, and they kept me up to date regarding status. Seriously, so awesome.
So next time you’re in a bind and looking to buy something unique, this is the place to go.
Now, is anyone willing to buy me a lovely bat skeleton hanging from a branch, under a glass dome? Totally putting this on my wish list.

love the world of taxidermy! The fantastical life of circus freaks! Anatomical jewelry! Scorpion paper weights! Exploding skulls! And botanical posters!!! So… botanical posters aren’t too crazy but they are beautiful.
Evolution is an absolute dream and I want to own all of it… well maybe I would hold off on buying any raccoon penis bones. But the Raccoon was hypnotizing me with his adorable eyes and beautiful fur pattern. How did this animal get to be so ridiculously adorable? He was so cute I almost missed the super cute little squirrel. One day I will get some cute little woodland creature to nest him/​herself on my coffee table or bookshelf.
For now the skull necklace was quiet affordable under $ 30 but does get a little tangled in my hair. Last time I was here, I began to drool over a rib cage necklace. My birthday is coming up and I might just have to splurge on this cool little accessory.

This is one of the coolest stores in NYC, hands down. Now you have to understand my version of cool — I’m interested in anatomy, skulls, science, and things of the like, so this place is like a candy store to me (minus the actually eating stuff aspect). I’ve purchased a few books, bracelets, and wall prints during my various visits and everyone is always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Things can be a bit more on the expensive side, especially for the unique items, but that’s to be expected. There’s still enough reasonably priced things here that it’s a must-​see for every NYC visitor and resident!

I fricken love the evolution store. It may be the coolest curation of objects and gifts in the US. While it’s not cheap, the quality and obscurity of the items available is pretty awesome and garners a HOLY SHIT type of reaction if and when someone is lucky enough to receive something from here. I quite literally make it a point to come to this store every time I’m in Manhattan and because of that I have acquired a pretty massive butterfly/​moth collection.
If you’re looking for a unique gift or object for your home and are lucky enough to go to soho — go here.

Bats and skulls and moths, oh my! This is such a cool store, selling all the weird things you would see witches use for a witches brew. Frog legs, bat skeletons, wolves teeth.
Of course everything was super expensive. Idk who actually buys these things but it’s definitely worth going to if you’re into those kinds of things!

Amazing store everyone is very helpful I bought a purse from them with their logo (black tote with a skull) that’s how much I like this store! They have really nice t-​shirts too. I also have a sterling silver skull from them also very beautiful!
They’re really nice & everything is organized.
It’s a museum but you can buy the items that they are showing. They have skeletons, skulls, gemstones, animals, fossils & insects. I really like they’re rabbits and deers. They have a lot of taxidermy!!! It’s pretty amazing to see you in front of you!
They’re fully aware that you just want to look sometimes but they help and answer any questions.

Does anyone else feel like this store is so out of place in Soho? Like maybe it belongs more in the East Village, or maybe a dark dirty corner of the LES.
Anyway.
The store is soooo crowded and very touristy. Be forewarned! There is so much to look at here — oddities and eye candy — but everything feels really overpriced, especially all the little trinkets. That said, you’ll find stuff here that you won’t find many places elsewhere in New York, so go ahead. Buy your expensive knickknacks and eccentric gifts. Just don’t block the door.

Amazing place to gain a great sense of enlightenment during your time in Soho, New York! I was very exhausted by the thought of roaming around the most crowded areas and attractions of NYC so Soho suited me well.
While visiting, I stumbled upon Evolution on Greene and Spring St. which had already sparked my interest due to the name and awesome banner.
As I walked in some of the clerks were busy with other guests that were fascinated with the edible bugs and cool nicknacks by the register so I found my way to the amazing bug specimens in the middle of the room. Everything ranging from bugs to jewelry, fossils, replicas, taxidermy, so much stuff it kept me browsing for almost two hours. Besides my amazing experience with this place the employees were awesome, dedicated, and very well educated on everything in the store all of them were also eager to help you learn more about everything and provided great service, knowledge, and facts.
There’s more then meets the eye when it comes to this store. Yes, some things in this store we can’t imagine in our everyday lives but theres so much art, culture, and science it’s a must see at least once. Five stars from me and so far my best experience here in New York!

Walking into this store is like visiting an infant version of the Museum of Natural History without an admission and that you can buy all the bones, animal parts, insects, and all the strange and fascinating mother nature paraphernalia that the store sells.
The store itself has two floors and is not that big but there is just so many things to see in there. It’s the perfect gift store if you’re looking for something different for someone (assuming he/​she ain’t one of those over-​sensitive PETA member as they may find the items here offensive with all the real stuffed/​dried animal, leather, fur, animal parts, etc)
Most of the items are reasonably priced but some can get expensive. I got myself some lollipops with Scorpions, Mealworms, and Crickets embedded which I found disgusting but at the same time interesting. Scorpion ones are at $ 4 a pop and the cricket and mealworms ones are at $ 3.
Downside? Staff may be slightly cold-​faced but I guess I can understand from the daily massive influx of tourists coming in and out of the store without buying anything. They’re actually more than willing to help if you need any assistance.
One thing I found funny is that one of the staff (I think she was French) looked like Alexander Petrovski’s ex wife (if you’re a Sex and the City fan, you’ll know what I mean) LMAO anyways be sure to pop in and check it out if you’re in the area.
Not a bad place to stop by to check out all the cool stuff you probably won’t find anywhere else in the city. Credit Cards Accepted

I love the things in life and death that most people tend to cringe at, so when I heard about Evolution it seemed like a natural place to journey to.
I had a bit of time on my hands to wander from TriBeCa up broadway and do some shopping while I waited for my girlfriend to get off work. The friend with whom I was visiting had mentioned this store and it stuck with me. I needed a thank you gift to give her for showing me a great time in NYC. I spent quite a lot of time looking at every case.
With each case I came upon something more interesting than I could have imagined. Resin blocks with beetles, crickets, stick bugs, etc. Skulls in all mediums, 3D printed, human reproductions, etc. I could have spent thousands in that store. I only wish that this store was in located closer to LA. I found so many things I Wanted to buy as souvenirs for family and myself.
I eventually decided on a pewter bird head, in necklace form. Two of them, one for me and one for myself. All and all I think my friend was delighted with her gift. As well as I receive a lot of comments on that piece as well.
I can’t wait until my next trip to NYC when I can fill in the gaps in my collection.
