The L.I.S.A. Project NYC

On Mulberry St., between Broome and Canal, is a small stretch of street art worth taking the time to explore. If you’re not paying attention, you may even walk by some of the art without noticing. There are many different styles to see. I’ve attached a lot of photos to this Unilocal page, because as the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

If you’re a native (or at least resident) New Yorker, you probably view Little Italy as Times Squares tanned, greasy, dark-​haired, garlic-​breathed little brother, and avoid it for the tourist trap that it is. Well, now you have a reason to venture back down to this neighborhood, because the Little Boot now kicks culo, thanks to The L.I.S.A Project NYC.
L.I.S.A stands for Little Italy Street Art, and is a project created by Wayne Rada, with some additional creative direction from RJ Rushmore (founder of Vandalog– famed art blog). Together they have created NYC’s only mural district, by bringing together an amazing group of local, as well as international artists. Some of the contributing artists include (but not limited to) Hanksy, Ron English, Tristan Eaton, Hottea, Beau Stanton and Buff Monster.
This is one of the few spots where legal murals seem to even get respect from the local taggers, as they tend to leave these pieces be. There are numerous, incredible works of art there that really need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Word has it, that 2104 should be their biggest year yet, as they are hoping to expand south into Chinatown. You’d be a wiseguy, if you were to head to Mulberry st, pasta* Broome st. towards Canal, and take in some L.I.S.A.
