The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel

We came to check in, and our room wasn’t available until 9:00 PM– which is ridiculous. The staff was completely unaccommodating, the room was dirty, and we actually left and got a room at another hotel. I will never recommend this to anyone else, and I am horrified that a hotel of this caliber would do this.

We were greeted nicely by every staff member and the hotel was clean. The woman that cleaned our room was so wonderful and even run down the hall with something I forgot when I was checking out. On the other hand, our TV was broken and although they got us a new one it took hours for them to come. The bathroom was tiny. There was nothing in the room with any information about the hotel services. Although they have a filtered water machine on each floor the one on our floor was not working. Lastly not to be too picky, but I will have to add that the toilet handle kept getting stuck down and the drain was broken in the shower.

Actually deserves 3 stars from me not 4 being that it had more cons than pros.

My husband and I only stayed one night in this hotel, and that was enough. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, centrally located to theater district, Times Square, and Rockefeller Center. The bad… everything else.
Front desk was poorly organized, slow elevators, room was very old and dirty. There was definite water damage in our room, and the bathroom was small and unclean. I didn’t want to take a shower in there, and I walked around the room with my shoes on.
Overall, I would not recommend staying here.

What is resort fee??? :)
I am staying this hotel for 5days. First day was awful. Room was so small. They didn’t clean well. A lot of dust ewwwwwww.
Most disappointed thing is they changed resort fee and deposit when I checked in first day but they didn’t talk about resort fee. I was surprised when I check my card account. They didn’t tell me anything. I am so disappointed. Be careful when you check in. Be careful! !

Although the room was small, it was very clean, the staff was very helpful and it is an excellent location! Great experience!

Three stars for location and the fact that we had a groupon and paid significantly less than the regular rate… The quality of the room is not great, it’s clean but old but hey, location location location!

I’m standing in line at reception to check in. There are literally about 100 people waiting to check in. It seems they overbooked — I overheard some people saying they didn’t get rooms. Regardless of that, we’ve already been waiting about 20 minutes to check in and I’m guessing it’s going to be about 40 minutes more if we even get our room. So far, not so good.

Pros:

1. Disorganized check-​in service
2. Rooms show EXTREME wear (carpeting, towels, linens, wallpaper, molding,
3. Limited TV channels
4. Inability to control air conditioning
Most of the cons listed above are forgivable when taken with the excellent location, but there is one thing that simply cannot be overlooked:
There was a baited mousetrap in my room beneath my air conditioning unit. Because of this I was forced to sleep with the lights on.
Unacceptable pricing point for a fleabag mouse house.
Sorry. Don’t stay here!

If you’re expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel, don’t stay here. This is a decent 3 star hotel, and you have to go in with your expectations that way otherwise it will be disappointing.
I made the mistake of booking the hotel (paying the cheaper non-​refundable price) before looking at reviews online, and I freaked out. That being said, some people wrote in saying the upper floors were terrible, while the 5^th floor was renovated and had nicer rooms. So, I called ahead about 3 weeks before my reservation and requested a renovated room on the 5^th floor. I received the requested room. I didn’t go to any of the upper floors, but I can only image how terrible they are from reviews on Unilocal.
The room was nice, just a standard hotel room. Nothing special, but it definitely wasn’t terrible. The bathroom wasn’t renovated, so it was a bit older, but there weren’t any legitimate problems with the bathroom. It was perfectly in good working and cleanliness order, just a bit older.
Grab and go breakfast was great, and William was especially nice and friendly.
Location is great. Right in the center of mid-​town and walking distance to many major attractions.
Mattresses were a bit firm, but they were fine. Pillows were good. Would have been nice to have an extra blanket in the room, but it was ok. We just turned up the heat.
Didn’t have the experience of paying extra for wi-​fi, as other people have mentioned on Unilocal.I logged in to wifi on my phone and wasn’t charged anything extra.
Elevators were terribly slow. Being on the 5^th floor, we had to walk downstairs a few times. The elevators go to the top floor first then work their way down. So being on the 5^th floor, especially in the mornings, many times the elevators were crammed with people and their luggage when going to the lobby to check out. So, we had to take the stairs a few times — and it kind of stunk because the door at the bottom of the stairs goes outside, not to the lobby. So we had to walk around the block to get to the lobby.
TL; DR: If you want a clean and nice room, request a renovated room on the 5^th floor when you book this hotel.

Marissa gets the 5* rating, she took the time to call my room and make sure that I was okay, after navigating my way through TS on my very first trip to NY EVER, on Saturday of New Years Weekend. I can’t say I was not a tad bid overwhelmed! MARISSA at the front desk was amazing, and noticed that I was a little flustered. She got me checked in, and told me about a few places to check out. The room was sufficient with a nice view, and the bed was comfortable for my 2 day stay. All the staff were very nice and helpful! Thank You Marissa for making me feel welcome!

The hotel is dirty, the check in staff was rude (Namely Marissa) and overall this place had all the charm of a youth hostel.
Don’t waste your money.

This place deserves –0 stars for not trying. The hallways are absolutely gross, stains everywhere! It’s almost like they want people to see they make no effort. My mom was fooled by their website, with their photos of renovated rooms, sadly they only have one renovated floor and they pick and choose who they give those rooms to. I called in 1 week prior to our check in date to specifically ask for an updated room and they didn’t bother to accommodate us despite having available rooms. DO NOT STAY HERE, there are much better options in the area. And according to the comments left below by management one has to pay extra to get a decent, clean or sanitary room. I thought that was a given.

We upgraded to a junior suite for $ 81 a night extra (plus tax) and it was worth every penny! The junior suites are on the 5^th floor and were built about 1 year ago. They are almost 600 square feet so they are spacious. The outdoor private patio is really nice. The inside is so quiet… we could only hear an occasional siren — no traffic noises at all. The bathrooms had 2 sinks, a shower, and a tub. The king bed was comfortable, as was the sofa and 2 armchairs in the living room area.
The hotel was always clean. The filtered water dispenser for water bottles on the 5^th floor was very convenient, and free.
The complimentary breakfast is just coffee and juice, plus a pastry and a fruit. It’s grab n go style. Mostly croissants and muffins. No bagels. Still a very nice added bonus, considering the same breakfast at Starbucks would run $ 5 – 10.
LOCATION– was excellent. Easy to get on the orange B or D trains, blue E train, yellow NQR trains, or the red 1 train via the 3 subway stations within 3 blocks of the hotel. We took the Q70 from LaGuardia to the E train and got to the hotel in 45 minutes for only $ 2.75 and it was not difficult with luggage at all.
Overall — GREAT place to stay in NYC.

Main light switch only controls the light in doorway which was a bit annoying having to go around whole room turning on like 6 – 10 lamps to light the whole room
Tv was huge and clear big plus for that
Room has more than enough closet space 6 or 8 dressers plus night stand and 2 drawers
Had a 2 bed queen size room
Room came with 2 free water pouches that were refillable great for nyc tours
Cooffe, tea, soap, shampoo, conditioner etc all standard stuff included of course
No issue with our stay

Gross. The lobby is deceiving… it looks like a decent place, but wait until you get to your room. I stayed on the 16^th floor and the moment I got off the elevator the dim, dingy lighting should’ve been a clue — but then there was the stained carpets, scuffed walls, and peeling wallpaper. The room lighting was just as bad… and the furniture looked like it had seen better days — maybe 20 yrs ago. Then the mattress… oy, the mattress. So awful, could feel the springs, just not comfortable at all. Then the room was either really cold or really muggy… nothing in between. I switched between sweating and shivering.
I couldn’t switch to another room because I was in town for business at the same time as the UN General Assembly so all the rooms were sold out… and that’s the OTHER THING… the room was being charged $ 400+/night… which is RIDICULOUS.
I travel to NYC often for business — and have stayed at hotels that don’t bill themselves to be as fancy as this one, but were 1,000 times better. Adding this to my DO NOT STAY list in NYC.

We booked this hotel recently for NY comic con. It was an inexpensive hotel in their reserved block and now I know why. First off its not a terrible hotel, Ive had much worse, but Ive had much better.
Ive seen a ton of reviews that outline bedbnugs. I did not experience any. If i did this review would be filled with swears. The lobby is ok. Its scarce though. There is no bar. I typically expect most hotels to have a bar, none here. Not a super huge issue since theres bars EVERWHERE in Times Square.
second the elevators are ALWAYS jam packed. 8 am= packed. noon= packed, midnight=packed, 3 am= packed. they take forever and when you ride one its with 26 other people. Its odd.
Ive been in much much busier hotels with much emptier elevators
The guests here are mostly foreign or low on cash. Its a no frills type hotel and attracts no frills type guests. so be aware of that if it bothers you.
Some staff are nice, others are just annoyed. We had to stash our bags in a room since we arrived long before checkin. upon retrieving the bags later, I handed the luggage desk the receipt card and said «I wanted to get the bags we left earlier». he looked me dead in the face and said «Yeah, i know what this is for, you dont have to tell me» and then annoyingly stormed off. Theres no reason for an attitude if your business is «hospitality»
The rooms are mediocre. not great, not terrible. they could use a professional cleaning. Theres tooons of dust bunnies and grime if you move a table or desk to look for an outlet. I found a power strip hidden behind a nightstand that looked like it might catch fire from all the built up dust on it. Plus we found old socks left behind. So its obvious the cleaning staff has never cleaned behind anything.
the AC is rigged. we tried to lower it since I like a cold room and set it to 60. 5 minutes later when we realized it wasnt getting cold we looked and it had reverted back to 72. We tried multiple times (15) but it always automatically resets to 72 after a minute or two when you forget about it. Its rigged to do this to save the hotel money we assumed. even when we did drop it to 60 for a minute or two, it still only blew out room temperature air. Plus if you look in the vent youll be sure to find inches of dust and trash since it has never been cleaned. We ended up opening the windows to let in cold air and turning off the AC since it was set to always make the room 72. Only problem was the street noise the next morning. It wasnt too bad at night, but the mornings were very loud if you open the window
the bathrooms are ok. would be nice to have fans to vent the shower steam but whatever. Otherwise its a decent bathroom with plenty of clean towels
beds are comfortable enough. pillows not so much. They seemed like KMart pillows you buy on the cheap. Sheets were clean and not scratchy.
TV had a weird feature that auto dims. The brightness dropped by 50%-75% after a few minutes of watching. You cant correct it at all. It reverts back to normal if you touch the volume though then back to dim after a few minutes. huh? weird powersave feature maybe?. Its still a good HD tv. Most hotels have HD tvs but standard service. this hotel has HD service. so that was good.
Walls are thin, expect to hear conversations clear as a bell
Check the locks on the «linked room» door. Ours was unlocked and someone could have easily just walked into our room.
the hallways are clean. A bit outdated but otherwise clean. A lot of wall and door scuffing though.

um… thats not free internet access. thats $ 20 internet access. Would be nice not to be screwed right to our faces by semantics.
Ice is accessible, as well as «filtered» water. If you want to drink it is another story. I filled a water pouch supplied in the room, with filtered water by the ice machine and upon drinking it my mouth was itchy. Like there was dust in it or something. Could be a fluke.
Location is great depending on what youre in town for.
The website promotes a lot of great looking photos. Just dont be fooled by them. Its a NO FRILLS hotel. If I could describe this hotel best it would by by calling it a high rise «Motel».
Its not worth the money but thats NYC for you. drop the price by $ 100-​$ 150 and its the right price for what you get.

Its extremely helpful that this rat pit is only walking distance to many sites because you will want to find multiple attractions to keep you busy and out of your room.
This place is horrific. Have you ever stayed in a hotel where you have to leave your clothes on in bed to avoid sleeping directly on dried bloodstains? Or maybe a place with such thin walls you can actually hear the guy in the next room grunting while in the bathroom? If not, and you’d like to have that experience (along with a door that clearly has taken a gun shot — but to its credit has been poorly repaired), then check out the Manhattan. It’s quite thrilling.

Absolutely awful, unsanitary hotel. It looks so nice from the outside, but you really cannot judge a book by its cover.
Never in my life have I ever experienced bedbugs until coming here for only one night. I got bitten probably 14 times and am hoping that it was only bedbugs and not scabies. Itchy as all hell.
I think this place should be shut down and exterminated – especially after hearing of others getting fleas here, and seeing countless other reports of bedbugs here.
Something needs to be done.

Después de asegurar Expedia que solo pagaríamos 2.90 $ por persona y noche (tasa turística), nos encontramos con un suplemento OBLIGATORIO de 21.78 $ por noche que incluye: gimnasio, agua, WiFi y llamadas. Ascensores: más de 20 plantas, 4 ascensores, de los cuales, uno estaba inutilizado. No exagero, la mayoría de las veces esperábamos unos 20 minutos para poder cogerlo, porque había demasiada gente. Estábamos en planta 8 y muchas veces decidíamos bajar andando. Habitación: «limpia» aparentemente, porque a mi chico le picó un bicho que le inflamó todo el cuello (no subo foto porque es asqueroso) y telarañas. El techo del baño tenía agujeros y la puerta raída. La puerta de entrada estaba descuadrada (al abrir, arriba rozaba con el resorte y por debajo, una rendija enorme, cabía un mano entera). El aire acondicionado se ponía solo y cuando queríamos ponerlo, no funcionaba. La cafetera daba verdadero ASCO, si hacía café ahí, podrían salir tortugas ninja de dentro. El personal de recepción: brusco. Tuvimos que pedir 2 VECES que mandaran vaciar los cajones de las mesillas, porque tenían CONDONES dentro (abiertos). Nos llegó un paquete al hotel y al recogerlo, en vez de comprobar si estaba, dijo directamente que no, que allí no había nada. Tuvimos que insistir en que por favor lo mirara. Al final, efectivamente estaba el paquete. Los guardamaletas a pocas nos tiran las maletas por la ventana, las tratan fatal, son bordes y encima quieren propina. No vale la pena, de verdad.

We have stayed here before but I will not come back.
The hotel location is obviously great, easy access to all attractions. I stayed here because nothing else less than $ 350 was available for my short visit since I booked too late. The size of the room is for NYC pretty generous and the bed is very comfortable. These are the good features (therefore 2 stars).
Now the bad stuff.
I swear my AC was alive … it was so loud that I woke up several times during the night. Turned it off but woke up because I was sweating like crazy … so back to moody AC. The phones did not work. One of the lights on the window did not turn off, I had to unplug it to go to bed. The hotel room doors close so loud, they would wake King Tut up. Every time one of my neighbors opened/​closed the door, I woke up … great if you have to get up early in the morning (this trip was for business, I didn’t appreciate the bags I carried under my eyes all day). Only 2 bath towels, no hand or face towels in the bathroom.
The gym! I’m not sure if I’m the only crazy person working out when in the city … because I was told nobody else complained so far. None of the TVs worked on any of the equipment, the water cooler emptied, no bathroom. None of the ellipticals worked, the treadmill almost killed me since the touchscreen didn’t accept my frantic pushing of the «STOP» button, yelling at the screen didn’t work either. I just hope nobody from the Novotel on the other side of the road watched me (ahhh Novotel, why didn’t you want my money?). I called the reception, they apologized — saying that a 3^rd party is responsible for the gym. I get that, but goodness, this stuff wouldn’t break over night at once, shouldn’t the hotel still check up on something that is being advertised as hotel feature? I gave up after 30 minutes and left frustrated.
Last but not least, picking up my luggage in the afternoon that has been stored in the hotel after I checked out. I was waiting for one of the employees so I could give my luggage number in order to find my suitcase. While waiting, an employee passed me with one of the hotel suitcase carriers, on the way to the elevator. My suitcase on top. I followed him, asking where the heck he’s going with my suitcase, he said upstairs storage. My response «no you are not». My suitcase had no luggage tag on it anymore, they must have lost it. He was hesitant giving me my suitcase, I guess he also noticed that there was no identifier attached anymore. I’m not trusting the hotel anymore to keep my luggage safe.
