I’ve seen two shows with The New Group. The first show, Groundswell, was fantastic. The second was just recently and it was Blood from a Stone. In both, the director, Scott Elliot really commands a lot from a talented, and sometimes very well-known cast. I think Groundswell ruined me from Blood because I seriously would’ve taken up nail biting and cigarette smoking together to cope with the intensity this show manufactures. I was in the action sitting in the front row of the small theater. Blood definitely had a lot going for it. Great cast, well-acted, but in terms of drama, their dysfunction had nothing on what I see daily as a social worker. It’s an occupational hazard for me, but my husband who doesn’t deal in trauma, enjoyed the play. Since going off-Broadway, Avenue Q came back to The New Group who co-produced it. I’ve seen it twice already, but The New Group is a happy home for the show. I can’t wait for the next show with Marisa Tomei and Frank Whatley in Marie and Bruce!

Not only were my green tea mini-cakes with vanilla glaze and spiced pumpkin mini-cakes with cinnamon-cream cheese frosting a hit, I believe Matthew Broderick’s new off-Broadway production of The Starry Messenger will be a hit by the opening on Nov 23rd. Not that I found anything wrong with anyone’s performance but Broderick’s and Catalina Sandino Moreno’s(Maria Full of Grace) performance definitely stood out. The show had the appropriate amount of sass and cleverness that kept me captivated. Go see The Starry Messenger before Dec 12!
