The Penny Farthing

We came to The Penny Farthing after walking by and being drawn in by the atmosphere on a Saturday night. The ambiance was dim and intimate, with a young but mature 20’s crowd. There was a bar, outdoor seating, and also booth seating on the main floor.
To begin, my boyfriend and I split the buffalo mac ‘n cheese meal as an appetizer. The buffalo sauce definitely added a kick, but the meal was delicious. Highly recommend splitting this with your group! We also ordered drinks, which were good and up to our standards. I ordered the caesar salad with grilled chicken and avocado. It wasn’t memorable, but overall good and tasty. My boyfriend ordered the steak frites with mashed potatoes, which was really delicious.
Our waitress was very attentive and friendly the entire time, and was really helpful with all of our questions.

Lets summarize this in quick words… MEH
Nothing great about it, just another Tavern with decent food and good beers, don’t know if they have any happy hours, but I wont break a sweat trying to figure it out.
Will I return, SURE why not if I am in area.

Tuesday late afternoon seems to be perfect time to come here to get some beers with a group of friends.
They have very nice selection of beers and drinks. And huge menu: we got selection of sliders, buffalo wings, shrimp dumplings and buffalo Mac and cheese. I tried same of them and they were all ok.
Other than it’s a good place to hang out with your friends it also sport spot. There are at least 4 tv which shows different games– copa America and baseball were on.
One restroom only?!

Came here for after work drinks! Great place to meet up with friends and relax. Drinks are great. They have a 20 dollar min when you use a credit card which I didn’t like it at first but you can close it out without spending the whole amount. I am definitely coming back here!

Awesome chicken mozzarella sliders highly recommend, and great chicken sandwich with fries. Good service.

Loud on weekends. Went for a birthday party on a Saturday night recently. Wasn’t too bad when we got there but by the time we left, it was loud and tough to get through. Music is good. I have no idea how much drinks were as I didn’t pay

Good restaurant with reasonable prices in the city. The lentil soup was delicious! The salmon was cooked to perfection, moist and tender. Wait staff was a little slow on seating us but overall a good experience. I recommend it!

You can almost always get a seat at Penny Farthing. Happy hour is a delight with great wine specials ($ 5 per glass). It’s a favorite for weeknight happy hours.

Really nice place with decent prices. Definitely go for their brunch; the French Toast is beyond delicious. All entrees on the brunch menu also come with a drink (coffee, tea, Mimosa, or Bloody Mary).
I had a friend’s birthday party here once and they made it really easy and accommodating. We were seated in the center table for brunch and decorated with balloons and streamers.
The staff is friendly but sometimes it takes some time for the food to come. Otherwise, pretty good spot!

Great place to grab drinks with coworkers after work. Came here on a weekday and was surprised by super cheap draft beer (that wasn’t Bud Light), and the amount of room surrounding the bar. Makes for a great venue to sit/​stand/​talk with the team and unwind after a long day.
Definitely will be back to grab a few pints of $ 4 Rebel IPA!

The Penny Farthing as your typical 3^rd avenue bar — serving typical fried bar food and average beer.
On the positive side, the place is extremely roomy and gives you generous space — so you’re never cramped. Servers are professional and pleasant.
On the negative side, the beer selection is really pedestrian, relying heavily on tired, unimaginative mass produced beers. I had Goose Island IPA from draft that was fresh.

We went here for brunch on a Saturday. Very good and attentive staff. Frankly, they make the place.
I ordered the Irish Breakfast but unfortunately when it came, everything was cold.
It felt like all the Food was left standing and went cold, and when someone ordered the «Irish Breakfast» they just threw the cold standing items together and served it.
I would not go back there…

Came here for drinks after a meeting one day (on a Monday around 7 PM). I really liked the atmosphere and the light background music. However, the service was horrible. We waited for 25 minutes before someone finally came to our table to give us a menu. Then we had to go to the bar to order the food and drinks. It was quite a confusing set up. We ordered the waffle fries which were average. As we got up to leave around 8:30 PM it did start to get a tad bit nosier. Overall, I don’t think I would want to come back to this bar for happy hour.

Really fun place to go at night! The set up and environment reminds me of Hair of the Dog a lot. The beers are cheap, and the rest of the drinks are priced well too. It gets crowded but its definitely a great location to go with a group of friends if you’re not looking for a crazyyyy wild night.

I like to consider myself a semi-​pro brunch eater and THIS brunch was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I recently came here on a holiday trip to the city, I was with my fiancé and a group of his friends. No sooner than sitting down did we have a mimosa and bloody marys in front of us and we ordered our food. It was really hard to choose because it all looked so good. I landed on one of the eggs benedict choices and my fiancé ended up with a french toast. The entire table had what looked like delicious food and the drinks just kept coming. This was such a good day and such a great spot. I’ll most definitely make this a MUST DO when I’m back to NY.

I went to The Penny Farthing last night (Friday!) at around 11 and it was a blast. The crowd was mostly twenty something year old yuppies. The whole place is pretty big with lots of ample space — bar area, tables, and a small dance floor with a DJ. There’s also a small basement area — picture a dark alley way with the bar and couches on the side filled with people either standing around or dancing. The only thing I bought was a beer and that was $ 8 which isn’t bad at all. Overall, this place is a really chill place that offers you the stand & talk + dancing experience.

Man, do I still wish I was 21 and could enjoy this bar like it deserves to be. This is your quintessential college youths bar with top 40 mixed with oldies (Ace of Base? I’m pretty sure people in college now have never even heard of them). Bar service is horrifically normal for this city — expect to shove your way through assholes. Get here early as it gets very, very crowded around the 11pm-​midnight mark.

So this is our first team gather together after a whole year of tough work — supposed to be a long one with small bites but big drinks. Everyone is well prepared to get drunk and planned to not show up tomorrow AM.
This place was perfect in a sense that it indeed provided a huge place to accommodate large amount of people. However the food it served here was mediocre to the best. I liked the fried chicken burger and the sweet potato fries; however the steak burger was flavorless and thus lackluster.
Really hope they could have a larger food selection. Drink list was good on the other hand.

A-​OK… that’s it. If your here it’s probably because of the NYU crowd that creeps after dinner which is well and good for finding your next date. Food is average for brunch, nothing you can’t get from any other bar in the city.
Their Brunch comes with a beverage (as the rest of NYC does) different server every weekend. Come for a beer and to watch the football but the food and service go to ANY other option on 3^rd Ave.

Go to the bar downstairs, it’s sooooo much more fun.
It has different music, more dancing, and it’s easier to get a drink.
The overall bar itself is pretty nice, it’s not a sticky grungy floor type of place. They have a few big tables you can stand near, and overall the bar is pretty open.
The crowd is typical EV, and the drinks are expensive, but strong.
Solid choice for a night out in the EV where you don’t want to feel like you either might get robbed or have to pay half your rent on drinks.

When your plans for the night turn random, have a friend pick a place, then when you get there you realize you’ve been there multiple times, and have had that exact scenario happen with the same place multiple times, you know this place falls right in the middle. It’s nothing awful to remember, and it was nothing great to remember.
I’ve hit up Penny Farthing a couple of weekend nights and nothing was ever that memorable, and I’m not saying due to the alcohol. That happened later.
It’s a good spot to meet up and start the night. They have lots of televisions. Some decent bites to eat. Multiple floors. I highly suggest hitting up the downstairs bar once the upstairs one starts to get a little more crowded. It even has a pretty good selection of beers.
Once the hour hand starts to go around more, you may want to have the next spot lined up already. You are on the border of bro central. Thus as the night continues it gets packed with more and more kids who can’t handle their liquor, don’t know how to conduct themselves, and make me cringe.
In all, come through early to start your evening and get out when the time is right.

Today my friends food arrived a good 10 minutes before mine and the waitress had to ask me again what I ordered.
