Ever hear of giving rain checks to those who waited for a rainout and skipping handing out tickets the following day? Not rocket science My rant:

These people produced Shakespeare in the Park, as well as cutting-edge and new drama year-in and year-out. It’s located off Astor Place, next to the hideous new glass condo building. It was originaly the Astor Libaray, then the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and was turned into the Public Theatre by legendary producer Joseph Papp(creator of free Shakespeare in the Park series). I recently saw an incredible production of Stuff Happens, the new David Hare play, about the run-up to the Iraq war, with actors playing Bush, Rice, Rumsfeld, etc. Its the closest things we’ve got to the British National Theatre here in New York, containing three different theaters in one building, and producing new works, as well as creating new plays. They have student rush tickets, as well as discounts, and half-pricing, so check their website. Also great is Joe’s Pub, the bar and restaurant attached to the theatre, which has great live music and drinks at its light-up glass bar. A good place downtown to see theatre and then enjoy the nightlife. You can pick up tickets here during the summer for Shakespeare in the Park productions as well.
