The Westerly Apartments

I’ve lived in NYC for the last 8 years in various apartment buildings. Living in The Westerly was been a horrible experience. I moved into a studio in June 2014 and despite the lobby/​hallways in need of a major renovation, I fell for the ample closet space and large sized studio with alcove kitchen.
The first red flag I experienced was waking up one morning to a man cursing, screaming and being aggressive in the hallway, as I was getting ready for work. I called downstairs to tell the doorman that I felt unsafe and that there was yelling and cursing (my fear was that it was some sort of domestic violence case). A while later, cops were finally called and the man was escorted off the premise. After trying to get answers and feeling unsafe I finally heard from a neighbor that the man was in fact elderly and perhaps senile etc.
Then my direct neighbors ended up having an actual domestic fight where I could hear the man screaming and cursing. When I called down, the doormen didn’t do anything and I get yelled at by a porter. He actually was angry at me that I called down to complain about them because apparently they were a married couple that had been in the building a while! The porter tried to dissuade me from calling the cops because it would be such a hassle to deal with. So I did not call the cops.
Just when I thought this building could get any worse, a professional drummer moved next to me and felt it was appropriate to practice during evening hours. Even after I complained to building management, nothing happened.
Also, god forbid you sign on the wrong sheet of stupid paper for your packages, you will be dead to the doorman. I accidentally did that during my first few weeks and the doorman hated me ever since, would not open doors for me when I was carrying heavy packages, would not let me know if I had packages and generally just ignored me all the time. Super mature and very professional, let me tell you.
I could not wait to move, I have never felt unsafe or disrespected so much by building workers, management and neighbors. Clearly some of the people in this building are rent-​controlled or something because there is no way the residents I ride the elevator are paying the same amount of rent as I do. When I moved, there was a suicide in the building so I’m convinced it’s cursed.
