In December during the holiday season, I had to go to a cocktail party/open house hosted by my minister. Even though I wasn’t required to bring anything I thought i should bring something so I came here for a few bottles of wine. Considering the area I thought I would pay a little more but I happened to spend under $ 20 for 2 bottles of wine.

Average selection, decent prices. Claim they deliver, but they really done. Looking for wine? Go to La Vid on 6th ave.

I wouldn’t shop here if you are a person of color and want to be uncomfortably followed around the store. It’s more hilarious in a sickening way yet confusing because the guys running this shop are colored folks.

This liquor store’s location is very convenient for me. It is no where near as big as the one on Broadway near Astor Place which has incredible selection and a cheaper cost. The customer service here is fine and they are open til midnight on weekends.

Now that the terrible store on Laguardia closed, this is the closes wine shop to my digs, and it’s great when you need a quick bottle. Seems to be open pretty late. Selection is decent for a store this size, with plenty of value options(hello, Gato Negro!).

$ 37 for a tiny bottle of Absolut? I felt pretty ripped off, and then even more so when my roommate bought a bottle of the same thing here a few weeks later for significantly cheaper– what in the world?! Totally sketch.

Finding a good wine store in your neighborhood is like finding a great coffee shop; you don’t know what you’re missing until you have it right in front of you. Thompson Wine is two blocks from my apt and will meet all your wine, champagne and general spirits needs. While I’ve only purchased the occasional bottle of wine, I find the staff incredibly attentive and sweet. When grabbing a bottle of champagne for a birthday bash, one of them will swoop in and ask if i’d like a chilled one. Why yes, that would be nice! If I can’t find the wine I’m looking for they’ll search the ends of the earth for it … or at least make an honest effort to dig for it. Finally the prices are incredibly reasonable with a large assortment of under $ 15 bottles. They cater to the NYU crowd and tend to check IDs so be sure to bring proper credentials before you stroll into this wine wonderland!

Came here for a quick margarita ingredient refuel the other day(what can I say, when it’s summer*, I pretty much stick a Jose Cuervo IV in my arm.) Clean and well stocked they had everything I needed to be the best guest ever at the roof party I was rocking over to. Armed with my mix, tequila and salt(Insert your own rim job joke here. I’m waaaaaaaay too classy for that type of thing) I was about to trot out the door when I hear: «Miss! Miss!» Thinking maybe I dropped my sunglasses or forgot something I turn around and the chap behind the counter goes: «How old are you?» Um. Mind you I had already paid and was literally out the door with my bottles of booze, but I appreciate the fact that this is a law abiding shop(hear that NYUers?) Luckily I passed muster and was on my way. Definitely a handy neighborhood liquor store if you live in the hood or are stopping in at a partay and want to bring your hosts a little sumpin — just make sure you have your ID — or at least look older than I do. *Or any other season.
