I love this studio. Very warm and friendly environment and knowledgable teachers. I studied with Dante, Lori, Anna and Diego. Great experiences with all of them. I had wanted to learn Argentine Tango for years, but couldn’t find teachers or a studio that I liked. While in NYC I stumbled on this studio — and my prayers were answered. Highly recommended.

Triangulo, you ruined my Valentine’s Day!
Anyone know how it feels to plan a surprise on Valentine’s Day, just for them to tell you to go home when you get there?
In the most snooty condescending way, we were asked if we were beginners. And in the most patronizing tone we were told, «This class isn’t for you…»
WELL THEN WHY IN THE WORLD would you write «All levels» on your Course Horse page then???
Not only am I upset they ruined my surprise plan for Valentine’s Day, but I hate them more for making us feel unwanted and making me feel like it was my fault for not knowing better.
Feel free to go tango off a cliff, thanks.

We’ve taken lessons at two other dance studios, but decided to settle down at Triangulo for an extended stay, since it’s the best we’ve found for tango. The instructors we’ve had, here (Carina, Dante, Laurie, and Diego) are top notch — beautiful dancers who are also unusually good at pedagogy. The space, a single room for group classes, is about as large as you’ll find in Manhattan.
It’s true that on occasion some classes are oversubscribed, but after the first week of a month, most classes drop to a manageable size. (Students can switch to other classes of the same level on other days of the week.) On occasion, the follower-​to-​lead ratio is off, as well, with far more followers than leads. But large class sizes do allow you to work on your milonga style, which is meant for use on crowded dance floors. Theses are the real world circumstances you’ll dance with/​around if you ever attempt to dance outside of a class.
Carina, the owner and founder, is an outstanding teacher. She is both laid back and precise, a great combination for teaching. She’s wonderfully clear in her instruction and always encouraging. If anything, I wish she’d be more critical, since I have a thick skin and could benefit from criticism. Dante is clear, patient and wonderful with beginners. If I had time on weekends, I would take every single one of his classes. We actually followed him here from a different studio. Laurie is technically precise and really helps us clean up our technique. Diego is fun, funny and patient.
There always seem to be «senior» students (higher level students who have taken a gazillion classes) on hand to help guide the less experienced ones. At first, we found their presence a little disheartening, since they are often ridiculously good and seeing them makes us realize how bad we really are. But they help less experienced students learn so very much more than we would otherwise. It’s a great pedagogical move. There are people I really get excited about dancing with because they teach me so much.
Obviously this is a shifting pool, but in our experience, our fellow students have been nearly universally a pleasure to learn with, as well.
The only real criticisms I could come up with are these:
(1) There’s an occasional imbalance of leaders and followers, which most teachers attempt to correct ASAP;
(2) The computer system for class sign up is a pain in the ars to use. Just be patient with the danged thing; and
(3) It can feel slightly cliquey at times, since there are some students who take Every. Single. Class. (Or just about.) So they get to know one another. But don’t worry. It’s not closed or snotty, and after about two months of classes, you’ll find yourself snickering at the inside jokes, too, and cracking some of your own.
Overall, wonderful studio, wonderful people. We feel as lucky as if we’d won the lottery in finding this space in NYC.

I have been going to Triangulo for more than a year and a half. I have taken classes from the beginner to intermediate/​advanced levels and have enjoyed my whole experience there.
If you want to take group classes, this is a great place to do it. They are one of the few places that offer group classes from absolute beginner to advanced. They are dedicated to Agentine Tango. The teachers are knowledgable, warm and caring. They are also very passionate about what they do.
And while individual private lesson are available, you will never feel like the reason they have group classes is to sell privates.
I absolutely love Carina, Dante, and Laurie. Carolina and Andres are spectacular. They can help to imbue you with a love for Argentine Tango: a dance with a rich history, wonderful music (often enjoyed by even by non-​dancer), and a thriving and dynamic worldwide scene. You can’t go wrong here.

I have been dancing tango for a couple of years, and I have to say that I think Triangulo is one of the best spots to learn. Everyone is warm and welcoming (especially to beginners) — unlike the snobby atmosphere I have encountered at other studios, where everyone is just trying to one-​up each other. Carina is a wonderful teacher — she won’t let you slack off in class, but you still have a lot of fun. (No joke– when some leaders have asked where I study, and I tell them Triangulo, they literally said «oh, Carina turns out such great dancers’! Everyone knows her.)
So get your butt over there!

I’m now in my second month of lessons at Triangulo, and it’s safe to say that this place is great!
It’s also safe to say that I have caught the tango bug! Once you have taken a few lessons and get the hang of tango, you’ll understand why tango is truly a dance of love. But don’t worry, even if you don’t have a partner (my husband refuses to dance!), you’ll be fine. Each lesson involves switching partners every other song, so even if you come with a partner you will probably not dance with them for long during class. Although at the outset this may sound worrying, it’s actually good for your development and understanding of the dance as you’ll get the opportunity to dance with people of varied experience levels.
This is the only studio in New York that is dedicated exclusively to tango. The people here live and breathe tango, and the weekly practicas are great fun. The studio is adorable, comfortable, and inviting. Moreover, Carina, the owner and main instructor, will take the time out to teach you the steps properly.

i’ve never taken a dance class before so i don’t have a lot to compare this to. i took the beginners tango class. there were about 10 pairs of students of all age ranges. the space was too small for that many pairs as while we were doing a simple pattern, people kept on bumping into each other.
the atmosphere is very inviting and there is a wed practice session for beginners (and really of all ages) to come in and learn of of each other.
classes seemed to be an hour long.
