Very friendly and helpful staff. For the variety of goods they carry, you can find most of what you need. I actually just bought a cast iron skillet and they had the same skillet for about half the price.

When I used to visit my folks in PCV, this is the neighborhood place I’d go to get anything hardware-​related. The store’s bigger than it seems on the outside — so with two levels, two adjacent rooms, and stuff stored «in the back» and downstairs, too — there’s a wider selection of items than you might think. Sure, they may not carry absolutely everything, but you almost always can find exactly what you need. The people who work here were always friendly, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable — and very helpful too, even when this place gets crowded, which it sometimes does. There seems to be a mix of family as well as employees. Do yourself a favor, whenever you can, stay away from that huge monstrosity at the other end of 23^rd, and bring your business here instead.

I worked at Vercesi during my high school years in the late 80’s. It is so nice to read all these positive reviews and to even hear some of the names of guys I worked with. Great people who are knowledgeable problem solvers and love helping the people who come through the doors. I have been through the ‘secret’ screw room door many times and it is true that if you need something rare it is probably back in that room.
If you are looking for a fun place to check out or have specific hardware or houseware or paint needs go and check this place out.

I’ve been going here since I was a baby. They have had the same staff for over 20 years. Joseph, Ping, Jonathan and the rest of the crew are practically like family. My father also loved coming to Vercesi to visit his pals. They always have GREAT advice and suggestions. This is the best place, ever. Sure, they don’t have everything. But, who does. They do have an awful lot, tho. And super nice people really sway me. There are 2 other hardware stores that are closer to me, and I still make my way to Vercesi.

A great amount/​variety of products are amazingly crammed into this store. It took a little while to find someone to help me, but once I did I received friendly service. They had exactly what I was looking for (new closet handles/​knobs, spackle, putty knife, and plastic tubing), and a decent selection. Prices on the few items I looked at seemed reasonable.
Also, important to me as a female — the guys here do NOT treat me like a «stupid girl». They totally respect me and don’t act as if they know better… even though they really do!
I’ll definitely be back should the need arise.

Vercesi is a really great hardware store. The prices are great, the customer service is unbeatable, the selection is fabulous.

Simply put… The Best Hardware Store In Manhattan! Incredible service. They actually answer your question. What a novel concept. What’s better is that they never give you the bums rush.
Vercesi’s selection is vast and their prices are low. A staple in the neighborhood for decades. Lucky to have them here. What a local mom & pop business should be. If Home Depot visited Vercesi, they’d skulk-​out in shame.

This is a very good hardware store. It’s not the cleanest or best organized place in the world but they have a good selection, helpful staff, and amazing prices.
I slightly prefer Town & Village Hardware Inc on 1^st between 19^th and 20^th but I do Vercesi recommend this as one of the better options in the area.

I’m no mermaid, but Vercesi Hardware makes me flip.
After spending all this time in psuedo-​modern cardboard IKEA furniture stores and shiny, clean Bed, Bath & Beyond over the weekend Vercesi Hardware provided a much needed reality trip back to the old school grit of the city.
Smack dab on 23^rd Street, the outside façade makes promises that the inside delivers, and more. Ugly neon lighting, walls packed with whosits and whatsits galore. They copy keys, sell special «urban» hardware like street carts and dole out advice at a reasonable price. While I wouldn’t go out of my way to shop at Vercesi, it’s worth a peek if you’re in need of household basics and agree that Home Depot is the fourth level of hell.

Although now it’s called 23^rd Street Hardware — same great people, and service. No need to go elsewhere… unless they don’t have what you need.

Stopped in today for some vinyl tiles and a drill bit.
They came up short on the vinyl tiles, but had a good drill bit and didn’t rape me for it. Only 2.29.
This place also makes keys, so that’s convenient.
Just a good centrally located store, with a very helpful floor staff, and efficient register operators.

In the grand scheme of small hardware stores in the city, Vercesi (or I guess they’re calling themselves 23^rd St Hardware) is one of the best. Very organized, they carry pretty much everything, and reasonably priced.
The staff was friendly and fast, made some keys that actually worked perfectly the first time — Home Depot has some serious learning to do here!

Good location, they are the only ones on the block. So there is no competion… which is usually not a good thing. But I will have to tell you, those guys are good, orgonized and know what they are doing. Everything is very easy to find, plus you can always get help there. I have

I love this place the staff is amazing and über helpful. Things run at decent prices (for the city). And this place has those much needed granny carts! I will return for all my apartment needs as this place is much better than more recognizable hardware stores with nasty employees attempting to sell broken and defective goods.

Can’t believe I’ve not written a review for this place. When I had to make keys for the new office and trekked all over the city to find a place that could make them, this was the only place that could make me keys as the ones I was replicating were «special» and no one had keys large enough. And that was after going to 2 other «key» places.
When I wanted a cast iron skillet, where did I go? Vercesi. And how much did my skillet cost me? A fraction of what it’d cost me anywhere else.
When the electric fuses in my apartment burned, where did I go? Vercesi.
You get it. I go to Vercesi when I don’t know where I’d find something. And they have the most random but useful selection of stuff from vaccums to (I kid you not) electric owls to scare away pigeons if you happen to have that problem (I didn’t even know such products existed!!).

Five Stars. I used to come to this place as a kid living in manhattan. It has been there for a very very long time. I support this place. We used to buy cheap flashlights from this place to go to boy scout camp and they had the cheapest master combination padlocks in the city. I used to think they loved kids because they were a ten year old shoppers dream. I could afford items here that elsewhere were beyond my reach but were necessary. A flashlight for camp, a lock for the pool, and not those cheap locks but a master. I love this place still. Support them!

I’ve been frequenting Vercesi Hardware for almost 10 years now and have always been very happy with their service and prices. The staff are all extremely knowledgable and helpful, and always have a smile. They’re good about giving you personalized service if you need it, but they let you be if you’re in a rush and know what you need.
The store has 2 floors with the typical hardware stuff (nuts, bolts, screws, lightblubs, etc.) on the ground level and the housewares (shelving, garden, flooring I think) upstairs. It’s a little cramped but they are always happy to help you find what you’re looking for if you can’t locate it.
So there you go. Vercesi Hardware rocks, and I hope it sticks around for another hundred or so years! Now go buy some stuff!

Awesome! Huge selection and really friendly staff. I needed four really odd screws, and after disappearing behind a secret door for awhile, the dude emerged with exactly what I needed, and instinctively knew why I needed them. («Let me guess, you’re installing a replacement deadbolt but the screws that came with it are too small and just slip out?»)
There’s another hardware store farther down 3^rd Ave (I forget the name) which is definitely a little more neighborhoody, but whatever.
