Rose prices by over 60% practically overnight. Got a rip-​off beard trim with the barber insulting my hair trying to pressure me into getting a haircut too.

It’s a good barber shop and these young barbers seem to be much better than the two older ones who I think co-​owned it for about 15 – 20 years before possibly selling out? I’m a senior so I get a haircut today for $ 12.00. When I first started coming here in ’68 I paid $ 2.00 plus .50 cent tip. When I feel in the mood I will say to the barber in mocking tones, ‘I should get a break in price because of the few hairs I have!?!’ Their standard response, ‘yeah but it takes longer to find ‘em!’ Wise guys. But good barbers.

I had a very bad experience here, the person who cut my hair was not personable. He zoomed around my head as if he was trimming a hedge. Despite that I still gave him a big tip. A few days later I noticed a lot of jagged edges on the sides. So I went back and asked him to fix them. First he said it was over two weeks since I had been in there and acted pissed off that I would ask him to fix the obvious mistakes. He then said he remembered me and and that when I came in the first time I asked him to keep it long and that now I was asking for a new cut. I remained patient with him and explained that I was only looking to have the mistakes fixed.

Solid haircut. The barber gave me a relatively quick haircut, and made sure several times that he was cutting it to how I wanted it. Small place with TVs on the side provided a nice level of comfort. And for $ 14, it was an awesome deal!

Awesome walked in waited 5 minutes and had a straight razor shave at working man prices not at trendy hipster prices. $ 14 straight razor shave. 2 hot towels gentle but clean straight razor. — how can you go wrong. Its just great to find an honest to goodness old fashioned barber shop in NYC with great service at great prices.

Such fun guys. My favorite barber shop in the west village. Super cheap too, only $ 14. Def recommend it.

Good Barber shop. Went here for the first time, walk-​in, and got my cut from Alex. He cares what he is doing and gave me a very nice 1 blend, better than most places in Manhattan I’ve been to. They recently raised the price he said, but still $ 14 for a professional cut.

Ok so i have been here several times now, the guy that sits you on the far left is good, i don’t know his name but he doesn’t speak good English but man he cuts good, he takes his time too.
On the other hand this other guy that sits you next to the window, he’s really bad he doesn’t know what he is doing. Last time I was there, he cut my hair so bad he ruined the top of my head, insisted if he cuts more it will be spikey then i said I use gel it’s fine but he still didn’t cut enough. They both don’t shave your back but this guy especially ruined my neck as well, when I get home my wife was like what happened to your neck. You know how they all show you your neck with a mirror, I was like ‘man you missed it here and here‘ then machines that areas but then he didn’t show me my neck again. He’s straight up bad either bad or just lazy! (i didn’t give him any tips at the end)
I am not really sure what’s up with giving tips to a barber anywho, they are clearly own the place and you’re paying for the service. It’s not like a restaurant where they work for $ 2 an hour.

I find it interesting reviewers seem to either love or hate this place; there are no 3-​star reviews. I started going here about once a month in October. Half a year later, it seems to be the new barbershop I’ve settled into since the one I used to frequent in Sunnyside closed down. The Queens place did a better job, but they weren’t open late enough. West Village Barber Shop has good hours and, now that I’ve had cuts from three different men there, it seems like the quality is consistently very good. It’s convenient to where I work, and the longest I’ve had to wait in the 5 – 6 times I’ve gone was about 10 minutes. 2 – 3 times there has been no wait at all. And the price is hard to beat. They have TVs as well, so you can watch the news while you get a haircut.

Okay, one of the barber doesn’t know what he’s doing. I gave him my usual 2 simple instructions. 6 around the side and back and ¾ in. off the top. He doesn’t want to cut my hair spikey when it’s normally spikey. When he does cut it, he simply ruined the top of my hair. He made my hair look like a square.
The guy simply didn’t know how to trim my hair to the style I walked in with. Worst haircut I’ve gotten. I’m looking for someone else in that barber shop to cut my hair.

Even after pointing out several hair style examples, which are displayed on their wall, this guy completely screwed up and another barber had to salvage what was left. It was clear on my face I was not content, yet they still had the audacity to charge me full price.
…Never again.

After moving to the city I tried several different barber shops across the city before finally finding this one. The barbers here are top notch, clearly putting 100% into every cut and making sure you are satisfied before you leave. One of the best deals in town

When you get a great haircut in 15 minutes from a friendly expert in a charming barber shop and it costs you $ 12, you hand that man a Jackson and you walk right out the door, looking fresh as a spring day.

Very friendly, quick, and excellent service — Went in during lunch and got a perfect cut while watching a movie. :) You can’t beat this place.

For $ 12 I got a perfectly fine haircut. Alan, the guy cutting my hair, got what I wanted, cut my hair that way, was perfectly pleasant, and I got to watch The Avengers while having my hair cut.
The end result was just as good as the $ 40 haircut I got last time. This is my new spot.

First time here but great experience and great deal. Got a haircut and shave from Elvis for $ 22 plus $ 10 tip which he more than earned. Took his time and very attentive to detail for a 45 min cut when there was a few other customers waiting. Will be coming back.

Given that the majority of men on both sides of my family were bald by my age, I happen to be very protective of what hair I’ve got left. And because I find my limited time remaining with my thinning locks particularly precious, every four to six weeks, I make the arduous journey into Jersey, all for the sake of trusting a stylist I’ve gone to since I was a child to make my mop look semi-​presentable.
This trek includes:
— A subway ride to Port Authority (more commonly known as Satan’s Butthole)
— Hopping on a NJTransit bus
— Getting picked up by my parents in a shopping mall parking lot
— Borrowing their car to go the salon (yeah, I said «salon» — shut it)
— Eating dinner at «home», and therefore, inevitably arguing with my mother about something completely insignificant
— Sleeping over so that I can wake up and take the bus back into Satan’s Butthole, so on and so forth, wash, rinse, repeat
However, once in a blue moon, due to a busy personal schedule one way or another, taking this adventure is simply not in the cards. My hair becomes unmanageable and unsightly and I must resign to the fact that I will have to go to someone else this time around. My palms get sweaty, I feel like I’m being forced to cheat on my wife, and if you haven’t pegged me for crazy just yet, I’m sure you do now.
Enter West Village Barber Shop.
Now, I used to take the PATH twice a day when I lived on the other side of the Hudson and, I admit, I barely gave this place (a stone’s throw away from the Christopher St. station) any notice. It’s a far cry from the female-​operated, suburban Jersey salons I’ve treated myself to all these years, a hole-​in-​the-​wall establishment, out-​dated and dingy enough to ensure a strict sausage fest. But I took a leap of faith when a co-​worker recommended the joint to me some time back, and thankfully, it’s been my go-​to Plan B ever since.
First off, these barbers score points just for dealing with my paranoid, incredulous facial expressions of inspection with every snip and whir. The TV at each station (I believe there are three chairs total) actually helps calm my nerves every visit. And these guys honestly take the time and effort to make sure no hair is out of place, which is certainly refreshing service to receive from a no-​frills, low-​key, old-​school, walk-​in establishment like this. There may be a lot of rapid scissoring and probably an over-​reliance on the buzzer along the way, but the end result is not too far off from the salon quality I’m used to, which is especially impressive when you consider the cost at a whopping $ 12.
And that’s really the kicker. Sure, the boys club vibe with a hot shave on the menu to boot is all well and good. But the ability to score a surprisingly decent haircut at that low-​ass price in one of the most expensive zip codes in the country? Man, I’m even convincing myself to make that trek out to Jersey less often…

Surprisingly, I’ve received compliments for my hair. At first, I thought it looked pretty bad. But it doesn’t look bad. It’s also easy to maintain short hair.
