I came here after seeing the stars on Unilocal,and its location near NYU. I had recently had my blonde hair touched up [at a different salon] and ruined and I had put two box colors of brown over it so I could be seen in public… I was very traumatized. When I walked in I saw Kevin and wasn’t even sure what I wanted or was asking for… I didn’t want to be charged a fortune for corrective color but I also didn’t want dead black hair. He put some highlights around my face to brighten me up and did a hot oil conditioning treatment. He also cut a little of my hair off because the brown box color I had done had dried my hair out. When I left I felt like a human again who liked her hair. I’ve been coming back now every week for a few more highlights and a deep conditioning. No one would ever know what my hair was like before seeing Kevin, who was amazing. I highly recommend him to anyone, but especially people who have been to salons that can’t handle complex hair situations. The fact that I had bleached my hair and then put two box colors on it within 48 hours didn’t stop him from doing EPIC work to give me hair I felt good about after having been through all the trauma that comes with having a terrible hair experience! Kevin is the absolute shit. Thank you WS & see you next week =]

Love my long layered look Kevin gave me! Came out really natural and complements my bone structure

Very nice people, but I’m quite unhappy with my recent haircut. I asked for long layers and instead, I only received layers in the front near my face — the rest of my hair looks child-​like — it’s cut straight across with no body or layers. Worst of all, there are multiple chunks of hair that were cut to eyes-​length, so I have a few random strands of hair that reach my eyes whereas the rest of my hair is past my shoulders. Clearly there was some major mistake made

I used a groupon ($ 70 for partial highlights and hair cut) and it was an awesome deal! I got my haircut and highlights by Karina and she was wonderful. My hair turned out really great; natural looking highlights and perfect length!
I would recommend others to WS Hairstyling, and definitely suggest Karina!

If you want your hair highlighting choose Karina at this salon. Twice we had a misunderstanding on the type of highlights I wanted and each time Karina called me to the salon and altered my hair free of charge. I have just left the salon and am in love with my hair. Karina is so lovely and genuinely wants your hair to look perfect. Not once did I feel uncomfortable revisiting the salon and she even stayed late at the salon tonight to add more blondes to my hair. I also got a beautiful cut and blow dry which I have received many compliments on. I honestly feel the customer service I received outweighs any issues I had. Karina all the way!

I used a Groupon for a cut/​blowdry/​partial highlights for $ 78 at WS Hairstyling in October. Although they talked me into a full head of highlights with toner costing an extra $ 60 or so, I was really pleased with the service. I appreciated the stylist’s advice regarding the cut and highlights and I was very pleased with the results. I am returning to the salon this month for another cut and half head of highlights, using a Groupon for the cut and blowdry for $ 38. I hoping to have the same great results. I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Love it! Kevin is a master and fixed a botched haircut I had done the previous day. My one complaint is that they need more Sunday help– Kevin was the only one working and I was serviced 30 minutes after my appointment time.
For a great haircut, I highly recommend!

Been coming to this place for 2 years ever since I enrolled to NYU. If you’re an NYU student looking for a great men’s hair cut, I highly recommend this place and you will also get a discounted price. Ask for Steven to cut your hair, he knows what is best for your hair and will also listen to any specific requests if you show him a photo of a certain hairstyle. Steven is a real homie!

A no frills salon. Lovely people but major things where they could improve
1) Listen to the customer about the length they want — they cut twice as much off my hair as I asked. Kevin took the liberty of showing me 6inches off my hair when I asked for 3. Quite upset as I hate short hair… at least it will grow back in a year or two…
2) They used the same hairbrush (not cleaned) from the last customer. Could still see their hair on it and they used it on me before washing my hair too. Gross.
3) When the hairdresser has scissors near your face, they shouldn’t periodically check their phone and be distracted…

Great! Elona is amazing! She did high lights and put in a toner! Such a good job! Its the second time that she does my hair and I will never go to anyone else!!!

Discovered this place through Lifebooker but loved my cut so much I’ve been back twice since. Yanna took the time to understand and talk about my «vision» for my hair, and she always makes sure I’m 100% happy with how it looks before I leave the chair. Love my latest cut, would highly recommend Yanna if you’re not 100% what you want and need a professional opinion and a high quality cut!

I’ve been coming here for about 2.5 years and have had haircuts from Steve, Ami, Yanna and Karina. I’ve never been unhappy with a cut I’ve gotten. Overall, a solid haircut at an affordable price (also there’s a deal for nyu students).

Karina is the go to person for color, highlights, cut and Brazilian testament. I am so lucky and delighted to have Karina gable my hair. I consider myself a difficult client … And she is the only one that touches my hair !!!

I have been coming to WS for few months now and i am stocked i found them. Karina and Elona are both amazing! They listen to my concerns and carefully plan to execute my crazy ideas. I love getting my haircuts here. I always leave feeling very good about how I look. I’d highly recommend it to any NYU student, as it’s very close to the campus, the haircuts look great, and it’s at an affordable price. I get my haircuts with Steve. He’s great, he always makes sure your haircut is perfect. Very trendy place.

Elona bleached, glazed and cut my hair. I showed her a photo of the colour I wanted and she gave it to me spot on.

Ami is my go-​to guy in NYC! He’s given me practically every hairstyle I’ve had over the last several years (and I’ve had a lot): long, short, sleek, shaggy, faux hawk, pink highlights, side cut, medium wavy bob (see picture attached) — you name it, I’ve asked for it, and he’s given it to me! Not only is Ami great at cut and style, but he also understands that women actually need to be able to walk out of the salon and maintain the style on a daily basis. Sometimes you go in with a certain picture/​idea in mind and maybe it won’t work as well with your hair type, texture, etc. (cuz let’s be honest, we don’t all have a team of stylists working to make us look like Rihanna or Emma Stone everyday!!). Ami listens to what you want and helps you figure out what fits best for you personally. He gives great at-​home care tips — plus, he’s just a really nice guy and fun to be around (talk to him about yoga and gymnastics)! You will be in good hands with Ami — LITERALLY!

Made an appointment with a groupon for a haircut and partial highlights after reading the good reviews on here. I explained to Yanna that I wanted a longer bob above my shoulders and very subtle lighter brown highlights just around my face and through the ends — I have very dark hair and just wanted a little brightening up for spring, nothing obvious. While she began doing the highlights, it seemed like she was doing a lot, so I spoke up, reminding her that I only wanted them around my face. She only replied, «I know what you want,» so I sat back and let her do her job.
When it was done, sure enough, the highlights were pretty terrible, bright orange skunk lines all around my head. I was also informed that if I wanted brown highlights and not blonde ones, I would have to pay $ 30 extra on top of the $ 90 I had paid for the groupon, which hadn’t been in the fine print so that was a nasty surprise. As for the cut, she wouldn’t cut my hair as short as I asked her to, so the finished product, while fine, was nothing like what I went there for. I’m sure I could’ve pushed it, but her disapproving comments and facial expressions made me uncomfortable, so gave up. When I expressed my thoughts about the highlights, she didn’t say anything other than, no, I was wrong, they weren’t orange or obvious stripes. It didn’t seem to matter what I had asked for, so I sucked it up, paid, and bought a box of drugstore dye on the way home.
Also, a small detail in the grand scheme of the terrible dye job, but: getting shampooed was way more painful than it should’ve been — I don’t think I’ve ever been yanked around like that at a salon before. Ouch.

Purchased a Lifebooker voucher and did extensive research on this place, coming to the conclusion that Karina could do the job well. After booking my appointment and then shifting it a few times the day of, I walked in feeling like I’d already loved this place for being so accommodating and friendly over the phone.
The place itself was kind of empty, but the people there, especially Karina as requested, were quick with a smile. I sat down with Karina, who was so complimentary and sweet, so the confidence was building to the expectation of a fantastic haircut and possibly a new go-​to, after giving myself haircuts for the past 23 years.
I showed her a photo of Jenna Dewan-​Tatum at the Golden Globes with her lobbed hair, and declared that I wanted to cut my hair short. «Like, Kim Kardashian-​short». Karina exclaimed that that was exactly the length she envisioned for me, and I was thrilled that we were on the same wavelength. She told me that she’d cut layers into my hair, too, to add more volume to my mane. Okay.
After around twenty minutes, I was presented with the finished product, and played straight into a cliché: «Oh. Thank you. You say it’ll look better once the blowout wears off and I style it myself? Alright then.»
I tipped much more than I should have, considering this was an atrocious haircut and I walked out the salon looking like a 33-​year-​old Asian housewife with two kids and a mortgage from Wisconsin. Perhaps most tellingly, with my previous long hair and natural waves, I get catcalled every time I’m in the downtown area. Passed by construction workers. Bangers. Cooks on a smoking break. Not a peep from any of them. (Totally against catcalling as a general principle, but I’m using this as an example of how I’m usually perceived).
I’m incredibly unhappy because I now look like a dumpy, stereotypical unemployed college grad. Thankfully, I paid peanuts for the Lifebooker deal and would definitely have broken down in tears had I paid the full price of the haircut I received.

Karina did an AMAZING job on my highlights, nice clean salon, conveniently located, and fair prices.
Karina was so nice and genuinely seemed to care about my hair. She listened carefully to what I wanted and was very thorough in explaining the process — my highlights had grown out too much and my roots were showing but I wanted to maintain the shade of blonde I had and look very natural.
Karina was very gentle with my head, great attention to detail, and her post hair wash head massage was incredible! My color came out exactly how I wanted.
I am so pleased with my experience and glad to find a great stylist and salon in the village that isn’t blowing a huge hole in my pocket — half head highlights at $ 120– similar to what I paid in Virginia which was hard for me to find in my hunt for a lower Manhattan salon of high quality service and professionalism.
