Yapple

I don’t know if they had a bad day, or it was a bad batch, or if it just hit me wrong for some reason, but BLECH. It was actually terrible and all the flavors were exceedingly fake-​tasting and rather melty. Sixteen Handles over this place any day. (This review is late, my bad experience was on 10/​14/​2013).

How is it FROZEN yogurt when froyo melts within a matter of seconds after dispensing?
59 cents per ounce, which is not cheap.
I do love its selection of toppings here. They do have a lot of variety, which is good.
I would like this place much more if its fro-​yo doesn’t melt too quickly.

This is a typical fro-​yo spot. There’s nothing too distinctive or awesome. The flavor selection could use some improvement, but who really cares? The place is pretty clean and the staff was friendly.
Yada yada yada… Just another fro-​yo shop.

We decided to try Yapple, instead of our usual Pinkberry.
It’s solid, decently priced frozen yogurt. It’s completely self-​serve, even toppings. The staff was not overwhelmingly friendly, and acted bothered when we asked them a question. They also have gelato.
The yogurt was much sweeter than Pinkberry’s and tasted like soft-​serve ice cream.

I know all frozen yoghurt must be more or less added with artificial flavorings, but the one in Yapple tasted too artificial to me. I like the other brands better.
In addition, I got chocolate, espresso, salty caramel, and cookie & cream in my cup, but I couldn’t tell which from which except for the salty caramel (note: I didn’t mix them). They all tasted oddly similar to me.
In a hind sight, I should have just got a scoop of Screme gelato that was also available in the store.

Yum, yum and yum!
I was out walking during lunch, seeking new places to eat and saw a Pinkberry, which I am familiar with and is meh… okay. But then I noticed Yapple.
Because there wasn’t anyone there on a nice warm day I wondered, «What’s wrong with the stuff?» As it turns out, nothing!
I like anything called «Birthday Cake,» so I got a taster of that, expecting to be underwhelmed. It was so amazing that I didn’t bother with other flavors.
I hope business picks up because I will absolutely be returning.
Oh, and the staff was very kind. They recognized me from before and gave me a discount card with an extra credit (hole punch) for my prior visit. That’s extra nice.

The only flavor they have that I like is the salted caramel. I too am a bit of a sucker for the frequent buyer card but I went to use it and they said it was only worth $ 4 and not a completely free portion. So, they pissed me off and I will not go back there. it strikes me as dishonest and cheap.

I feel like this is slightly cheaper than 16 Handles. Same idea and conception. Except this place didn’t have 16 handles of soft serve. They had like 6. And I sampled most of them, of course. The original tart is WAY too tart. My friend is obsessed with just the tart flavored soft-​serve. I can’t care for it but he scrunched his nose and said «this is bad». And then we found out that all of their soft serve is apparently dairy free. Not sure if that’s a hundred percent true so don’t quote me on that. I also sampled peanut butter, cookies and cream, cheesecake, strawberry, and caramel pretzel. That was pretty much all they had plus vanilla, which is boring. Caramel pretzel was pretty gross too so I stuck with peanut butter/​strawberry and put on a million toppings. See my photo. Its all peanut butter to mask the taste. I was happy that for the size of my fat ass sundae it was about a dollar or 2 less than I expected. But I’m still more of a fan of the flavor of either 16 Handles or Pinkberry. Sorry, guys. Though, they have gelato as a welcome addition. I didn’t try any of those and they seemed pricier.

As the weather heats up, and the frozen treat wars begin, give this place a try. It definitely skews towards the candy flavors and toppings, as opposed to Pinkberry across the street. It’s creamy, it’s cold, the place is clean, and the price is right for a little escape from the heat.

I love this place. It’s pretty inexpensive and every flavor I tried so far has been really good, although my favorite is just the plain vanilla. I think it’s 59 cents an ounce or something like that. Unless you go overboard with toppings, it works out to be pretty cheap.
The only thing is that I wish they rotated their flavors more often. I feel like they have the same stuff every time I go there.

This is one of the few places that has soft serve frozen yogurt and scooped gelato. You serve yourself the soft serve and toppings, they scoop the gelato. They have many choices of candy, cookie and fruit toppings. The fruit never looks fresh. My favorites here are the cake batter fro-​yo, peanut butter fro-​yo and ferrero rocher gelato.
They give out 20% off coupons, and they have a frequent buyer card. I’m a sucker for these cards that allow you to earn a deal.

Mediocre at best. Expensive (A little over $ 7 for a small cup with no toppings) Not to mention the consistency is runny and not smooth and creamy. 16 Handles and Pinkberry put it to shame. On a positive note, it’s a very clean and modern looking space.

Good variety of flavors. The place is bright, clean, nice. Toppings are fresh. A lot of children filling their bowls make a happy experience. Very (handsome) and friendly staff. :)

I love Yapple hope to see more store in NYC soon

Definitely a fan! Such a colorful funky space and plenty of elbow room to sit down and relax a bit especially compared to 16 handles, that place is like eating ice cream in a crowded corridor. The salted caramel pretzel fro yo is by far my favorite and the topping bar has pretty much everything that these other fro-​yo places offer. The fro-​yo is actually a bit more substancial compared to 16 handles, it definitely has more volume and will satisfy any sweet tooth craving!

Yes, it’s self serve… so shouldn’t it be cheaper?
$ 6 for 8oz of tasteless frozen something while pinkberry gives 12oz of deliciousness for significantly less.
Go across the street, get pinkberry.

Get the Salted Caramel Pretzel Yogurt.
This place is gonna give 16 Handles a run for its money as the best self-​serve yogurt shop.
The flavors here are awesome. Besides the reliable standbys, like Chocolate, Vanilla and some of the throwaway fruity flavors that some people get for some reason, they have some of the best renditions of the richer and more premium flavors:
— Salted Caramel Pretzel
— Cake Batter
— Cookies & Cream
— Espresso
The Salted Caramel Pretzel is especially good, and this is also the only place I’ve actually seen this flavor available so far.
Probably the best part of this place though: UNLIMITED sample cups. They just have them lying out there for you up help yourself, limiting you only by your shame. And I don’t have much when it comes to sampling the excellent yogurt here.
This place is also at a perfect location for a nice treat before and/​or after a movie at the AMC Lincoln Square theater. I’ll definitely be back soon.
