Open late, cheap, and good. I’m convinced this location is better than the one on Ferry. I prefer their burgers and pastries over the more popular spots. We get the chicken ball and ham and cheese pastries. I don’t know what kind of mayonnaise they use, but it’s unlike anything you can buy in the store. Best Brazilian burgers in Ironbound.

I recently discovered Pao de Queijo when dining at Fogo de Chao in NYC. Since then, I was hooked and have been making my own at home. Whenever I’m in ironbound, I am tempted by all the Brazilian bakeries and finally decided to stop in to try this one. I’m glad that I did. The pao de quiejo were very good, as was the guava and cheese pastry I ordered. I also had a cappuccino which was beautifully presented and delicious. I could tell that this place was a favorite among locals which is always a good sign. I’ll be back for a casual meal or snack whenever i’m in Newark.

I love this place. Every time I pass thru Newark, I always come to ironbound and rack me some brigadeiros(chocolate milk balls). I also like their coffee and their Pão de Queijo. I also rack on my Guarana Antarctica(Brazilian Soda) and my friends love to get their coxinhas e pasteis. Beside the staff speaking Portuguese, they also speak Spanish and Portuguese. I take this opportunity to practice my Portuguese. They have flat screen TVs where you can see Brazilian channels such as Globo. I highly recommend this place!

I used to think that I never could go the to the Ironbound with my boyfriend since he’s vegetarian, but I’ve learned that this was false. There are actual options for us — such as Casa do Pão de Queijo. He and I have gone to the one on Wilson Ave(there is another location on Ferry Street). Before checking it out, I’d always pass by the storefront with that yellow awning and look at that cartoon pao de queijo with the chef hat, and think to myself, «I need to see what’s up with that place.» So I did and that’s when I discovered all the different things we could order. Suggestions for Veggies: __The hot sandwich you can get is X-SALADA(two eggs, mozzarella, potato sticks, corn, lettuce, tomato, mayo) __The salad you can get is SALADADEOVO(lettuce, tomato, onions, beets, mozzarella, boiled egg) __These are the Pasteis that are veggie friendly: BRASILEIRINHO(corn, green peas, cream cheese, olives), CAICARA(hearts of palm, cream cheese, olives), CARIOQUINHA(corn, hearts of palm, cream cheese, olives), CATUPIRY(cream cheese, olives), ROMEO E JULIETA, PALMITO(guava paste, mozzarella, cinnamon), PIZZA(mozzarella, tomato, oregano, olives), QUEIJO E OLIVAS(mozzarella, olives), TRESQUEIJOS(mozzarella, cream cheese, parmesan), and TROPICAL(banana, cinnamon) __The panquecas you can get is BANANACOMCANELA(fried banana, cinnamon, mozzarella, sugar) __The omeletes you can get is OMELETEDECEBOLA(onion, mozzarella) __There is one salgados that you can get — RISOLISDEMILHO(fried croquet filled with corn) __Of course, there are the sweets(doces) and juices. I really like BEIJINHO, which is a desert made with sweet milk and coconut. Brazilian cream cheese is not like American cream cheese. The former is like a creamier, ricotta-ish-but-milder, cheese filling and it’s kind of amazing. There are a couple of tables in the café and a few flat screen TVs on the wall. You can take a seat and enjoy your order there, or order it to-go. They also deliver to Newark and Harrison… I’m a fan.
