Horrible customer service. Will service everyone they think speaks Spanish first. Ordered cheesecake and there was a dead insect on the slice. never going back. the bakery used to be a very nice one but I’m not sure what changed.

I went here to purchase some mallorcas & I spent about 15 minutes waiting for someone to even acknowledge I was there because the employees were more concerned about mopping the floor and gossiping than helping customers, that’s number one. TWO– the pastries were hard as bricks and when I asked for mallorca bread, the lady just pointed at them… Like okay? Can you at least TRY to be customer oriented after I had to wait so long for you to stop mopping & talking with your co-workers? Terrible service. Just awful. I used to go to this place as a kid all the time and have fond memories of it, to see such crappy & wonky pastries & «Cuban» sandwiches, upsets me. Nothing about this place is Cuban & I personally think they should’ve changed the name once they bought it from the original owners. I’m pretty much never going there again. Honestly, it sucks to see a great place being ran like crap. There’s my two cents.

Great place for a quick breakfast. They serve anything from malta to homemade avena. Pastries, toast, sandwiches, and enpanadas. Everything is pretty good, good prices, nice staff.

I’ve never been, but a woman I work with brings me their Cuban Sandwiches — THEBEST! She’s also brought in their pastries which are also incredible, someone else posted about their guava and cheese which is very popular around our office. A handy note, their amazing pork roasts are available for purchase, whole or sliced for parties/gatherings. She ordered 6 roasts for a big family gathering and everyone loved them, definitely worth it. Anyone who has tried their stuff has never been disappointed.

I was pleasantly surprised to know that there was a Cuban Shop close to home, especially such an authentic looking one, that as soon as you walk in, that smell of fresh white bread and café just welcomes you in. I do feel like I have to almost give two separate reviews for the bake shop and sandwich shop sections though, both which I may add had really pleasant customer service. The bakery had a beautiful array of Cuban pastries lined up and ready to eat. They also sell a ton of fresh bread, Cuban crackers, bread sticks, cookies and birthday cakes. Sadly I must be very particular about my guava, bc the one they use here is more of a jelly than a paste, and no cheese option in them. Not terrible options, but not like much better ones I’ve had. My favorite pastry was the cheese fingers, dedito de queso, those are sweet, but not aggressively sweet, and great ricotta filling inside. SKIP: The beef pastries, gross. CLEARWIN: The Cuban Sandwich — and go large, get a bypass surgery right after or join a CrossFit gym. It is literally from the top of my fingertip down to my elbow, cut into four thick pieces to share, but remember this is not a requirement. The flavor was good on the meat, LOTS of it too, and the bread was nice and fresh. This monster of a sandwich is $ 12 and completely worth it. Parking in the area is not bad, meters though, it’s a cute little strip, but do not bother to eat at the shop as there is really no sitting room. Get a café con leche or cortadito to wash some of that pork belly down and you are ready for a siesta!

It was barely 9am and this place was buzzing! Great on a Sunday morning craving for coffee, sandwiches, and sweets. This bakery set up feels more like a bar. It’s loud because of the machines running and you’ve got a fight for your place to be next. It’s a small bakery with only a few tables and chairs towards the back. The sandwiches are placed on a griddle/panini press and the«pan grandes» are huge! At least 15 inches in length made to share and only $ 11.50 for the Cuban. Oh! And the Cuban sandwiches are delicious(!!) … a little greasy but that is what’s expected when you pair cheese, ham and pernil together(I skipped the pickles). Well-seasoned pernil and a nice big portion for the $ 5.00 sandwich. Portion was generous enough where I needed help finishing it. Really a 4.5 stars place as service is a little slow and it’s not the greatest looking environment but their Cuban sandwiches are just about as good as it gets. **I apologize for the bitten into sandwich picture. I simply couldn’t resist.**

Been going here since I was a child. Deliciously baked bread around the clock. The café con leche is also delicious. Cuban sandwiches… yumm! The Guava & Cheese pastries(both the small round and the large wedge) are amazing. Their 9 pound roast pork is awesome for parties. Can’t say enough about this place. In the morning it’s a mad house and sometimes they can’t keep the line moving fast enough but what do you expect when the food is great and everyone wants it now.

Their loaf of bread takes me back to my childhood days when I could eat the entire thing without this worry of carbs and calories. Nothing beats pan de Manteca fresh from the oven with a touch of butter. Their Cuban sandwich is pretty decent but lacks the signature mojito I know and love. They accept credit cards with no minimum; amen for that as I rarely carry cash. They even provide authentic Caribbean soda like materva, iron beer and jupiña. One of the best things I encountered in moving to newark.

One of the few legitimate Cuban bakeries in the metropolitan areas. Great prices, nice staff and amazing food; croquetas, pastelitos, etc. Very out of the way for a lot of people, but well worth the visit.

This place is very good and very busy. The best Cuban sandwiches at a reasonable price, the bread is fresh, the pork is fresh, and the ham is good. There many traditional latin pastries that will make you fat if don’t stop eating them. So order the guava pastries and budin de pan & enjoy life. The café Cubano is great but can be too sweet. So order it with 1 sugar and add more if you want to later. I am a well balanced in my approach to food that entails me being a professional cook with many years experience in many types of cuisines from Latin America, Greek, Italian, and many more. I take food as the ultimate pleasure in life along with many other things. I give my reviews based on my experiences eating out at least 2 times a day and 5 – 6 days a week. I rarely give 1 stars and most restaurants get an average rating 3 stars, with some very good restaurants or places receiving 4 stars, and those that stand out receive 5 stars.

This place has the best coffee in NJ, I love it. The service is very slow but very nice. If you don’t speak spanish, you need to keep your order simple but the food is really good, always really fresh.

Wow. Delicious guava and cheese pastelitos and café con leche. The service is great. If you make an effort to say anything to the staff in Spanish, even«Hola,» they become super-friendly. Great neighborly ambiance. I love this place.

Great place for cheap sandwiches on cuban bread. My family has been coming here for years since I was a little kid. The pastries are also top notch. I must agree with another Unilocaler: stay away from the crazy panhandler dudes outside.

Back in the day this place had the most awesome, pastelillos de guayaba and cheese… it became a Christmas tradition to by 3 dozen to share at parties… they were very well known for their Cuban style/Latino style pastries and Cuban coffee(can we say… oh so yummy tar like coffee?!) It’s still a popular institution… haven’t been there in ages, but all of a sudden, I’m in the mood for pastry! :)

Good cuban sandwich that are sometimes too greasy, other egg sandwiches are decent. Neighborhood staple really for your morning butter roll and coffee fix. Ignore the crazies begging for change in front, they are always there.

I have to give it four stars because I grew up eating this Cuban bread. On Saturday mornings, my mom would buy it and make breakfast sandwiches for us with it. They serve good coffee too. But now they have new management. The owners are gone, and they’re not Cuban anymore. They kept the name of the store, though. They’d be fools to change it. They delivered bread throughout Newark for decades.
