Horrible. Went there for rear brakes. They broke my emergency break and then wanted to charge me 400 to fix it. Said no just do the breaks. Took literally 8 hours of sitting there. All they kept saying was almost done. Watched Optimum vans all day in and out while my car sat on a lift with no one even looking at it. These people are frauds. I got tires not even a month before somewhere else and they told me they are so worn they are dangerous to drive. Not one good thing I can say about this place.

I have been having problems with my car shutting off when I was driving since last week! I thought it was because I didn’t have oil in the car (don’t judge me– I’m working on taking better care) which I did put in, but to my surprise last night it cut off again on me. I took a chance and drive 30 miles to work this morning without any problems. When I got off work and began to drive, the car shut off again! I called Elsy’s at 6pm and Linda said bring it in. I want to thank her for her professional help. Immediately when I got there, my car was pulled in and diagnosed. The mechanic told me it was the crank shaft sensor and she told me my cost. Because I live so far and her care and concern for me getting home, she and the mechanic stayed longer to have my car finished. I really appreciate the honest and professional service this business offers. I don’t have to worry about them taking advantage of me as a woman abs not knowing about cars! I would and DO recommend Elsy’s Tire to anyone! Great service Elsy’s…I made it home safe!!!

Needed to replace my tires and decided to give this place a try based on other positive reviews on Unilocal.I was very glad I did! Jose was very nice, professional, and he truly cares for his customers. I only needed to change 3 tires but decided to do all 4 as we figured out that saved more money and I will have a better set of tires. He personally took care of my tire rebate form and promised to mail it out the very next morning. He also checked and pointed out to me several other issues with my car caused by improper servicing from other places (one of them is SEARS AUTO at Newport Mall) and told me what I needed to do to take care of them.
At ELSY, I was able to come in, get taken care of right away and left with brand new tires. I will be coming back here for oil change and maintenance going forward.

Just back here to rave about these guys. Once again Jose told me exactly what they’d do (I needed a new alternator), they started work immediately and I was out in an hour. Also my goodyear credit card came in handy having 6 months to pay it off. My father down in Florida gets very nervous about anything having to do with my car but these guys definitely put him at ease. Thanks Elsy!

I drive a 2010 GMC TERRAIN. I let the maintenance on the vehicle slide for to long and was forced to stop for repair early one morning in Newark. It’s repair was handled very professionally with a detailed itemized list of all repairs :
All brake pads replaced
all rotors resurfaced
all tires replaced
exhaust system diagnosed
exhaust manifold replaced
oil changed
cabin air filter diagnosed and replaced
Tire pressure sensors reset
Getting put in a position of vulnerability with your family and personal vehicle can be nerve wracking. I move not only myself, but my very precious family in my car as well as depend on it for my lively hood.
The staff was very competent and patient with me, especially Jose who explained in detail all the problems with my vehicle and offered multiple solutions for each repair.
Even when the crew was faced with a cracked exhaust manifold the part was ordered for me and the repair done all in a days work (approximately 8 hours). I was able to drive home with a safe and smooth driving vehicle with the good piece of mind that the work was done well !!

My car started vibrating during gearshift and the engine light was on. I looked up some possible causes and apparently i needed a new set of spark plugs. I went to ELSY and they diagnosed the problem by simply plugging up an obd reader and looking up the code. They told me that I needed a new spark plug and ignition coil for the 6^th cylinder. The bill was $ 609.37. I though it was too much and I got my car back. They charged me $ 48.50 for the diagnosis which took them 1 – 2 minutes. The OBD reader on Amazon is just $ 17. Later I checked the parts they were going to put in and the cost was around $ 60. The replacement is not a labor intensive work either. It takes only 10 minutes and can easily be done by watching a youtube video. I later checked the price with other mechanics and one of them was charging $ 135 to change ALL 6 ignition coils and spark plugs. The overall cost for the diagnosis and replacement of all 6 spark plugs and ignition coils came down to $ 517. Compare that to ELSY’s estimate $ 609 for a single replacement.
The bottom line is this place is ridiculously expensive.

Sooooo, wouldn’t you know, the curb jumped out and flattened the front drivers side tire of my friends car today. We weren’t in a part of town we were familiar with. AAA comes and the kid can’t take the lug nuts off, they were too tight. Ugh! He proceeds to take us to a tire place where we have to pay for them to put on the spare.
I Unilocaled and found ELSY because my friend didn’t feel comfortable driving around with spare too long. I read the reviews and we had nine minutes to get there and we were 8 minutes away! I tried to call to say we were on our way… my phone had 1% battery life left, and wouldn’t you know it… it died before anyone could pick up. Anyhoo, we made it just at 7pm and without hesitation, Linda «Millie» my new Ghanian sister (I’m from Nigeria) says, no problem we’ll take care of you!
Chris walks out with us to access the damage and gets to work right away. Jose, who’s been written about in other post here, walks in and I say, haaaaaaay! I’ve read the reviews about you, they’re pretty good! Needless to say, not only did it take only 23 minutes for them to do everything, I told them I’m a veteran and they gave us 5% off! Pretty darn awesome!
I’m recommend this place to everyone especially my Veterans. Professional, great and fun group of people here! I can’t say that I’ve ever referred to any experience at a car service station with all those adjectives!

I found ELSY after going to another auto center (ZapLube) for a synthetic oil change and were charging $ 75. I thought that was outrageous, so I looked for places with discounts on line. ELSY is a Goodyear Auto Center, so I found a $ 10 off coupon for synthetic oil changes through the Goodyear site. I called them up and a very nice lady, Linda, answered. She told me their price is $ 55 for a synthetic change and the coupon I have will make it $ 45. Sold.
I went there at 12:45 and by 1:15 I was all done. The prices are all listed, Linda was true to her word and accepted the coupon no problem. Everyone I spoke to was nice, helpful, and professional. They didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t want.
It is a little daunting when you first walk in because it’s not a fancy place… no one would really talk to me until I found the office, kind of dirty, one couch facing a soccer game with random workers sitting there… but hey, its a mechanic, what do you expect. Once I was in, they made me feel at home right away. I liked that there was a place you can pull in, instead of leaving your car parked on a sidewalk like some smaller places. I also liked the fact they give you an iPad to enter your info yourself while you wait… instead of some guy behind a computer firing questions at you.
The $ 10 off coupon also included a free tire-​rotation, which I wasn’t set on getting, so I didn’t bother making it a point to have it done. When they finished with the oil change, one of the guys at the desk noticed the language on the coupon and right away said, «Oh, let me get your car back on the lift and I’ll rotate the tires for you… its the right thing to do.» To top it all off, they vacuumed my interior (even though I’ve been meaning to do it for months now and was filthy when I brought it in).
Not bad for $ 45!

At 4 o’clock this morning, I was in the city headed for Newark. I was on the God forsaken cobblestone street in Soho right before you hit the Holland Tunnel and I hit this pothole that basically ruined my life. I just bought this car. It means more to me than most people. When I heard the sound she made after hitting that pothole, I felt like a new parent that had just dropped their infant down the steps. My chest hurt, I got goosebumps, I felt what she felt, I couldn’t think straight, panic mode engaged. Next thing I know, my dash is lighting up telling me to pull over cause of the tire pressure. Long story short, that pothole annihilated not one, but two of my beloved tires. My world came crashing down. The sky was falling. I don’t have AAA. I didn’t know what to do. I called a few tow places but guess how many answered their phone at 4am? Only 1, so a guy came to help, 4 hours and $ 255 later, I was driving on two great tires, one spare tire, and one ill fitting used tire. I drove back to Newark and went straight to Meineke to try and buy two new tires. Turns out, Meineke couldn’t even order the tires I needed so I turned to Unilocal and the reviews led me to Elsy.
I had a pleasant experience here. I pulled in and the mechanic made a joke about my spare tire and it was the first time I laughed all day. He ordered the tires I needed, I went and sat on a couch in the waiting area as I watched TV, I walked down the street to Quickchek to get some food, came back and kept eating on the couch. It took around 2 hours but it felt like 30 minutes. The price was good especially when considering the quality of work they do. The tires were on and I could now put the horror of the morning behind me.
Edit to add: 5 star turned to 3 and that’s me being generous. Okay, so the day that I brought the car here, the head guy was cleaning my driver’s side floor mat with a worried look on his face before he gave the car back to me. I saw what he was doing and figured he was just cleaning up some dirt so I said «oh, that’s not a problem» but when I got in the car I noticed it was a stain from whoever’s filthy shoes had got in my car to move it around the shop. I didn’t know what the stain was but I figured it would come out when I clean the carpets and that’s why I didn’t add a comment about the stain into my original review. I just came back from having the carpets steam cleaned and the stain is still there. Common courtesy and common sense on the behalf of this shop would be to put a paper down before they step into a car with a beige interior. Now I’ll have to replace the floor mats which are $ 119 because of the carelessness of these people. And now I see why people bring their Mercedes to the dealer to have it serviced because apparently when you bring it other places, things like this happen. If I have other options, I will not give these folks my business again.

This place is great! I had a flat and they inspected the whole car. Fixed all of the little things and were honest about tire replacement. Great prices!

As we were on our way to Newark Airport last Saturday, we had the worst case scenario: Blown out tire on Route 1&9. While I was concerned we were pretty much screwed at that point given my lack of ability to even attempt to change a tire, and with AAA pretty much a pipe dream as well, our savior Jose from ELSY Auto Repair was kind enough to pull over randomly to offer assistance. Within minutes, he had a plan in place that had his son and friend come in a separate car to take care of my car, and get it back to his shop safely. In the meantime, he took our luggage from my car and loaded it into his truck and personally took us to the airport. In addition, after they replaced my tire at an extremely great price, he took my car to a nearby parking place, while also texting us the vouchers we’d need to re-​claim my car. ELSY IS AWESOME!

Elsy auto is know to have the best prices on tires. I used to live in Newark, but I move to Bergen county. I had couple of bad experience in my area, so I decided to keep going to Elsy auto shop.
Great price, real friendly staf and owner, fair and knowledge. BTW this shop had better prices on the Goodyear tires than sears.
