The food was good what part I could eat The mac& cheese and yams were very good but the beef short ribs was so tough I had a hard time chewing them I paid 14.99 for this dinner I really wanted beef short ribs and I couldn’t even enjoy them the fried chicken wasnt freshly cooked in a case i should have went to popeyes for chicken at least it would have been fresh I also noticed that the staff was touching their hair and brooms and dirty dishes they don’t wear gloves then touching customers food. my waitress was very nice this was a to-go order I waited almost an hour for 3 dinners I got the pineapple coconut cake it wasn’t fresh maybe I should have got the oxtails instead the staff also seemed a little lazy garbage on the floor the rugs are dirty maybe they need a new type of floor doesn’t seem to be clean to me only the tablecloths I will never go back I’ll cook myself need to show them how to really cook beef short ribs at least the gravy was good

I had a fried chicken platter today. The chicken was bone dry and tasteless. I requested that my chicken NOT to be fried hard, whoever is cooking ignores the customer request. Not only that, if they knew what they were doing I would not have to make that request. My potato salad was better but it had a large potato skin mixed in, the collard greens were good. I used to depend on Kings always being very good… not anymore. I had another bad experience last week with over cooed shrimp.

I will never ever give this business another dime of my money! Their customer service is terrible and they are not accommodating @ all. I’ve complained on every website about kings on Clinton Ave. They messed up my order and refused to accommodate me. I’m disgusted! This is why I don’t support the businesses in the urban areas.

Good food… freshly made… I’ve been for breakfast and dinner a few times. Beware of the wait on Sunday’s after church… long lines… the catfish dinner is good… the whiting breakfast with eggs, and home fries is also a favorite. Service is ok…

Kings is a great restaurant if you are on a budget and looking for a great meal. I get the whiting breakfast platter with grits and it is always perfect. The only downside is parking and space between yourself and the table.

I go to this spot whenever I’m in the North East. I have to get the split pea soup! For my money, and I’m a soup lover, it’s the best soup for 500 miles! Beautiful, respectful staff as well.

Great place if you are in the neighborhood. Location is sketchy but the place itself is nice. Food is always good!

So my cousin and I went there and the food was excellent and the servings were generous. If my rating was on the food alone, this place would have five stars without a doubt. My cousin ordered pork chops yams and mac and cheese, but the waitress brought out collard greens instead of mac and cheese… which was fine, I mean mix-ups happen. The part of this exchange that was unsettling was the waitress’s response when my cousin informed her of the mix-up – she agreed to bring out the macaroni and cheese, but said she’d be back to take back the collard greens. Now these sides were not placed in separate dishes, but together on the plate with the main dish. The waitress said she was going to come back and actually scrape the collard greens off of my cousin’s plate! WTH is that??? She ultimately did not come back to get it… perhaps because she heard us talking about it and wondering if she was serious. But the fact that she suggested it in the first place gave us cause for concern. Once the food was on her plate and at our table, why remove it? It cannot be served to anyone else at this point, right??? Or was this some kind of a petty move? I cannot say. What I can say is that no matter how shabby a place I’ve eaten… I have never seen anything like this before.

Although I haven’t consistently gone here, everyti me I have gone their food has been consistent. Their customer service is exceptional by far. They always take their time with customers and make sure each customers experience is worthwhile and mine always is because of the service I get here. The food has been and has always been fresh and they hardly ever run out of food. Their menu has also expanded but they have kept the original popular dinner dishes as well. I will never hesitate on coming here. They have a parking lot as well. Also, we came in a half hr before it closed one time and THEYSTILL took our orders and gave us great customer service! I love this place! And of course the food is definitely made with love!

I’ve been going to Kings for about two years now and every experience was good until yesterday. I’ve tried almost everything from the salmon cakes and grits to a variety of their dinners. Unfortunately my experience yesterday will be my LAST ! I had the turkey wings dinner with mac & cheese and collard greens. The turkey wings were over cooked and tasteless, the Mac & cheese was dry and the greens were extremely bland. This food was clearly a day or two old smh. I’m more disappointed than anything because I LOVED their food at one point.

I live in the Ironbound and tired of all the Portuguese, Latin, Chinese and Pizzerias in my area. I’ve discovered King’s after going there for a catered private event and fell in love with the food. I’ve been going back for more ever since. About the food: Just what the doctor ordered on a Sunday morning. I mean… fried fish with grits, eggs and side of home fries is pretty hard to beat. I’ve also had their gyros, curry and friend chicken and waffles… all very good. About the restaurant: Inviting, diner style décor, lots of light, large tables to accommodate large groups and they even have a large banquet hall for catered events. Staff is friendly and place looks clean overall. About the area: Personally not intimidated. Dangerous? Maybe, you just need to be smart… as you should whenever you go into any neighborhood in any city. If it makes you feel better, there is off-street parking right next door to the restaurant and police HQ down the block. Complaints: If you order to-go, just double check your complete order is in the bag before walking away. I called in for pick up one time and realized they left something out when I got home. However, because I payed with card they gave me a refund over the phone.

My husband and I came across this place by accident, and boy oh boy it was a pleasant surprise! We had breakfast here, and the food was on point. I had the fried whiting, grits, home fries, and eggs w/cheese. I saw someone else’s home fries on their table, and i just had to order some on the side. I love fresh home fries and the onions & tri-colored peppers were perfect! The potatoes were seasoned well too. Hubby had turkey sausage, grits w/cheese, and scrambled eggs. He was satisfied which is a blessing because by profession he is an Executive Chef so he always critiques food by nature. We live out of town, but when we come back to NJ to visit, we will definitely be back. Next time I would like to try their Lunch/Dinner meals. Also their prices are very reasonable, and their portions are plentiful! My husband was shocked that our meal came out to approx $ 25.

Not a bad place. The food is good. The service has gotten better. Very clean! I stopped going for a while because of bad service but stopped in today with family and our server was a sweetheart! I will go again and if it’s good again I will definitely up their rating.

I have eaten at Kings several times in the past and it was very tasty. I tried again for lunch after a long hiatus and change in diet. This change includes not eating a lot of different things including eggs. But I had a taste for eggs and Kings does eggs well. I ordered takeout over the phone from a semi rude person. I got eggs with cheese, tomatoes and peppers, grits & beef sausage. Anyone who is anyone knows that the good beef sausage is the red, fat links you cut in half and fry. This is what I was expecting from Kings but did not receive. That totally is my fault. However, the eggs were a little on the loose side, the sausage was terrible and the butter on the toast was margarine spread. The mixture of those very few things in my stomach revolted and I had to purge them from my body. It was not good. I can’t say if it was the eggs, the non good sausage or what but I can never eat here again. I’m giving them three stars BC they were prompt with my order and the food that I couldn’t eat, others enjoyed.

Great food but the people who come here ruin the experience. I listened to a customer play an entire rap album on his phone out loud without anyone saying anything to him. In fact, one of the waitresses went over to him and listened to the music with him. I love supporting black businesses when I can but this place definitely lacks professionalism at times.

A new venture as I came here with family after church. Neighborhood family restaurant. But not in a neighborhood I’d find myself walking in after dark. Started with the Uptown(tea and lemonade). Delicious as it can be. Really a good blend. Not to sweet and not lemonade bitter. Perfect blend. For breakfast I decided on the Whiting with 2 over easy eggs and home fries with toast. Well they give you plenty for your money. Very generous portions. The fish was cooked well. Flakey and seasoned well. The peppers and onions in the home fries made a delightful taste. Very good after church breakfast.

Pretty good food, friendly servers, really clean inside with ample seating. I had the chicken with gravy, two sides(corn/spinach and Mac n cheese). Everything was outstanding. Apart from the heartburn of being so excited from some chicken slathered in homemade dark gravy and eating it all way too fast, it was great! My husband had the burger that he wasn’t that thrilled about. I need to come back for chicken and waffles . Finally, we ended with bean pie– and it was amazing! We used to get these bean pies from East Harlem and in the Bronx outside of a family business and this brought me back to those days. Authentic and tasty bean pies… They probably had the sweet potato pies too. My husband just said this was like a thanksgiving feast without waiting till November– I agree! We will definitely be back. Also, this place is halal so no pork, lard, alcohol and a nice clean family oriented ambiance– thanks Kings!!!

The food here is delicious! I usually eat breakfast here at least once a week. I usually have the fried whiting with scrambled eggs and cheese grits. Every now and then I switch it up and go here for lunch. I love the collard greens which are mixed with cabbage. I need to branch out and try other the dishes on the menu. I am confident that whatever I try will taste delicious. No pork is served at this restaurant. If you’re in the mood for Soul Food, give them a try.
