This place is such a gem! It’s located in a busy street in Newark, and the setting can appear to be a little outdated but I promise you l, you won’t be disappointed. They’ve had the same waitress since the beginning of time and she’s so quick amazing. Very family friendly atmosphere, delicious food. I gave them 4 stars simply because they can be a little pricey. otherwise, 5 stars for sure!

I hate to give 1 star but I have no choice :(Stopped by and decided to pick up a couple empanadas on a Tuesday around 2pm only to be told they had 3 left. I took this as a good sign, payed almost $ 9 for 3 and left. When I got home and happily took a first bite I was greeted with such a thick grainy dough that it was hard to swallow. It wasn’t until my third bite that I finally encountered some filling and that was worst then the dough. The empanada was supposed to be made of beef but you could say it looked and tasted like mystery meat. The«beef had a weird translucent color and was almost dehydrated when it came to texture oh and of course no flavor. There was a slice of hard boiled egg inside but it looked greenish so that’s when I made the educated decision and threw mine out. I gave one of the remaining empanadas to my cousin to try and he also threw his out. Would I venture and go back to this place and try anything else? Absolutely not unless I was going to get my $ 9 back for those questionable and uneatable empanadas!

This place has good Peruvian food. Located minutes away from the Belleville area. I wish they delivered but beats driving to Passaic for Peruvian food. Decent price for what you get. I hope they make a menu soon!

I love this place. The food is fresh and delicious. The employees are friendly and place is clean. My favorite plate is pollo a lo pobre(grill chicken, french fries, fried egg, rice, plantanes) — this plate is big enough for 2 adults.

The staff here is very pleasant and helpful with any questions I have about the menu. They also have a sister restaurant across the street called Santa Barbara Restaurant that’s more seafood oriented.

Excellent food. Portions are big and prices are excellent for the amount of food you get. I often get the Salmon a la parilla, which is just grilled salmon but you can choose two sides.(rice, fired yucca, french fries, or plaintains) and it also has the house salad. Plus you the amount of salmon is two huges pieces so normally my bf and I split this as our entrée and will usually do papa a la huanacaina or ocupa as an appetizer. Chupe de mariscos is also an nice huge size. Have been going there for years and the food and service always brings me back. I agree with the other reviewer, this is not on the nicer side restaurant. very typical of a takeout/eat in place and the neighbor also isnt the nicest… but also not the worst of newark either. The same owner owns the place across the street, Santa Barbara which is also excellent. but Santa Barbara has more seafood dishes than Hiro’s. Hiro’s is more of grill place as the huge rotisseries across the cashier indicates. They also have grill specials which can feed anywhere from 2 – 4 people at a really reasonable price. I believe one special has grilled sausage, a full chicken(pollo ala brassa) and some ribs or churasco. So come hungry! One downer is parking. They have a small alleyway parking lot which is very narrow and will only fit about 3 cars altho people park on both sides which makes backing out a little precarious. If you feel comfortable with your driving in reverse skills in narrow situations the driveway will do, otherwise I recommend parking on the street which can also be hard to find.

Amazing food… I have had several different dishes here and always enjoyed them, from their shrimp to their grilled meats… my favorite is Chaufa Rice(similar to asian fried rice) and Entrana(skirt steak). As an appetizer the Yuca a la Huancayna is the best, veggie smothered in this cheese sauce.

El mejor ceviche Peruano sin dudas! So fresh and tasty! Personally I prefer the Ecuadorian ceviche which has more chopped tomatoes and soup, but I really enjoyed this Peruvian version of mixed seafood(squid, octopus, shrimp, & fish) ceviche with tangy spicy sauce with crunch roasted corn and lots of sliced onions! Que rico!!! Mmmmmm!!! And the best of it all is the price! It’s less than $ 15 for this huge generous serving! It’s an amazing deal, I recommend sharing this because it’s too much for 1 person! According to my Peruvian friends who brought me here today, they claim that Hiro’s Parillada is one of the best affordable Peruvian restaurants in NJ and they say it’s even better than the infamous«El Chevere» chains in Passaic. Besides the ceviche, I had the following: 1) Arroz Chaufa(Peruvian version of Chinese fried rice): Slightly spicy and tastes pretty close to Thai fried rice. Very good! 4 star! 2)Papas a la Huancayna(fried potatoes served with a spicy, creamy sauce called Huancaina sauce): Instead of the usual boiled potatoes, here they served them fried but I guess it’s a good thing because they were yummy! Think of salchipapas without sausages, it tastes like that. So unrefined, so unsophisticated, so fattening, but so addictive! 4.5 star! 3)camarones fritas con yuca frita: 3 stars. Too bland, didn’t impress me. 4)Aguadito de Pollo(Peruvian chicken gizzard, rice & cilantro soup) — very hearty, light, and tasty! Make sure you add some lime juice! Mmmm! 4 stars! 5)Flan — 3.5 stars. It’s good, but not amazing. The service was great too. This place is perfect for a cheap group dining. Not the best location, but it’s in a relatively safer part of Newark. I’m really surprised that someone else has already Unilocaled about this place! Dang, there are Unilocalers everywhere indeed!!! Next time I’ve gotta try their parilladas!

If you love Peruvian food, this is the place to go. I’ve been to many Peruvian spots and Hiro has always pulled me back. If you want some ceviche, Lomo, Chaufa, pollo or a big churasco(grilled steak) this is the place to hit. The ceviche is mouth watering… As soon as I order it i’m drooling. :o) It’s a family owned little place in Newark(not such a nice area) but once your in there you can’t tell. I mean, you won’t have to stop drop and roll while eating but, it’s not your 5 star restaurant either. The staff is very pleasant. They welcome you as you walk in. Well, they know me already sooo, you know… If you’ve never had Peruvian food, go there… PS– for the portion they give you, the price is GOOD.
