Went here for the Papusas. They were soo good but we had to wait a super long time to get them. There weren’t many people there either so maybe they were short on staff. I would definitely go again.

Yummy yummy yummy. Really well made pupusas, not too greasy and just right. I ordered the chicharon and chicken. You definitely have to go try this place out! :)

The food here is great. The problem is that they never answer the phone for a pick up order and when they do, the phone they have is so crappy that it’s so hard to understand a single word they say. When ordering on the phone, they often say they don’t offer a menu item that for some reason they do offer when we go in person. The food is yummy and the prices are good but it takes them a long time to make the order. They will say 15 min but it won’t be ready for 30.

My boyfriend and I went today for the first time. I got a chicharon popusa and absolutely loved it! The popusas had a lot of flavor. We will definitely be back!

My aunt has lived up the block from here for 22 years! The building has been owned by many different people and seems to always be a pupuseria. Because I rarely saw anyone inside, we never even thought to go in. I started seeing more people going in the last 6 months and kept saying we would go in. We finally did. Holy crap! The beef and cheese pupusas are HELLA GOOD!!! Hunny also got a steak burrito. It was super full of mostly steak which is awesome. Prices are great, staff is wonderful and food is made to order! I was mad because I had wait for it to cook before eating lol! Totally recommend!!!

Gross. Plan teens were the only things that were delicious everything else was very bland and small bone in the meat that they put in my burrito

The sauces are lacking but the pupusas are fresh. The jalapenos ones are my favorite. I also ordered a empanada leche but they forgot to pack it. That kinda bummed me out, but I’ll still be back. The service time was kind of long but the staff were friendly. Imma have to cut someone next time they forget my fried goodness.

I’ve been on the hunt for great tacos in Newark and I found it! I got the carne asada and chicken tacos — both amazing.

Food was fresh and reasonably priced. I liked that there were different options for what you could get inside of your papusa (my only reason for going). That always excites me! I would definitely return if were in the area!

Solid Salvadorean grub. Pretty divey, food can take a while, but I’m still down with this place.
Pupusas are pretty legit here. Super light yet filling. I’ve had it lightly cooked here while other times it has more color. It taste better when it has a bit of brown color on the masa. All fillings standard but the zucchini and cheese is my go-​to.
Curtida (cabbage condiment) is not the help-​yourself-​type but I’ve never had to ask for more. It is also pretty damn legit and is requisite when doing pupusas. I also like how they drop off 2 sauces, one basic and mild, while the other much hotter and with a roasted, dry chile flavor.
Tried the al pastor once due to the raves and it is not bad. It is deeply marinated (too much so) that the flavor stands out. But the texture of the meat changes a bit, due to the marinating process. Still a decent taco at $ 1.50 per.
Chicharones con Yucca is big time Central American. Very flavorful crisp pork pieces fried til almost dry. Good to rehydrate in a hot sauce. The yucca was nicely fried as well but was really fibrous, maybe due to an older plant. At 6 bucks, this is a steal.
Fried Platanos (bananas) $ 4 is also worth trying. Either as a side with your meal or I like it as a dessert after the meal, with an horchata.
Adding this to my ethnic local rotation for sure.

An absolutely phenomenal example of made to order, quality Salvadorian food. I ordered a tamale and the Chile Relleno. Anyone who has ordered chile relleno before knows its an easy dish to rush, over cook, or miss prepare; this one was hands down the best one I’ve ever eaten. A fork cut through the pepper and the beef inside was flavorful and perfectly seasoned, with obviously home made masa cakes to accompany my meal I was in heaven. The tamale was extremely soft and the chicken inside was tender and well prepared, a must try if you are going here. The plates are more expensive than one might assume ($ 11-​$ 13), that having been said it is worth every penny.

I wanted to try this place cause i got so many good reviews on Unilocal,so I went with my friends the other night for dinner.
I got a pupusa while waiting for my friends. I got a corn pupusa with chicken and beef inside. It was okay, I’ve had better pupusas. The sauces also need a lot more flavor, most of them were bland for my taste, but again, it’s all preference.
So when my friends got there, I wanted to get something more filling, so I got an Al Pastor super burrito. Here’s where I feel like i got jipped. I asked what was in it and the cashier said a bunch of ingredients, but no avocado or guac. I asked about it and he said I could add it for $ 1. I decided not to get it, but when he told the lady in the back, she made it sound like it came with it, but the cashier still said no avocado.
Most places have guac or avocado in the super burrito, that’s what makes it super so I just felt like I got ripped off and I probably won’t want to come back. The cashier seemed like he was pretty high too, he was answering really slowly and his eyes were bloodshot red.
A review is based on the whole experience, not just the food, and even though the burrito was good, I just felt ripped off and don’t want to come back.

Loved the pupusas here! The husband and I had a craving on Monday night and two of the pupuserias we usually go to were closed, so he drove all the way from Union City to here and picked up several different types.
The ones we had were pupusas revueltas (beans, cheese, and chicharron) as well as zucchini and cheese (my fave). They have a peppery red hot sauce on the side that is delicious. The stuffed empanadas were more like banana fritters with a horchata-​flavored custard filling… unique but tasty.
Minus one star because they shorted my husband (he ordered six; we only found five in the bag). But honestly it wouldn’t stop me from giving them another go.

I have a new restaurant to add to my list of favorites in the Tri-​City Area! I’ve had my eye on this spot for a while as it’s in Newark’s «Zona de Tacos», and I’m glad I finally decided to give it a shot!
The pupusas had the perfect thick masa and grease ratio to satisfy my craving. Like a few others here have mentioned, I could probably do with a little more meat inside, but I still felt that I got enough food for the price. This looks to be a family run establishment so everything is made fresh and takes a little longer to get to your table. If you’re in a hurry, you may want to call your order in or allow extra time if you’re eating at the restaurant. They bring two sauces out to your table, one is spicy and one is tomato based and mild. You also get the usual curtido a.k.a. fermented cabbage relish as a side with your pupusas.
We also ordered the fried plantain combo which was a generous serving of fried plantains with refried beans and sour cream. I could almost come here every day to eat just this with a side of tortillas! I ordered two pupusas and ended up taking one home because the plantain combo was so filling. You could almost eat the plantains as a desert, they’re wonderfully sweet and greasy.
Finally, because my wife is an al pastor junkie, she had to get one taco al pastor to go with her pupusa. Red onions on a taco seemed like a different touch to be sure, but from the sound of things, I think the al pastor gets the Carrie A stamp of approval.
I feel like I barely scratched the surface here. There are lots of things on this menu that I’d love to try as I’m not terribly familiar with Salvadorian food outside of pupusas. We’ll be back next time the craving calls.

The papusas are delicious! Only downside is I wish they put more meat. Ordered the chicken w/​jalepeno and beef papusa. Chicken was better
We wanted to try a few things so ordered a chicken tamale and 2 Carne asada tacos. My advice is to stick with the papusas.

So, this was a spontaneous visit as my whale and I were on our quest for the ultimate Mexican meal. We were on our way to the target destination (a nearby Mexican gem) when I did a double take at the «Pupusaria and Taqueria» sign. Woah, Wait. Hold up, what? We never had pupusas before! After hitting up our target destination, we ran over here and ended up with:
Traditional pupusa: first bite was like «aaaww yeees» Like I said, first time having one of these bad boys and I gotta say, the crisp browned exterior with the light fluffy interior was so delicious. It was lightly filled with bean and cheese!
Beef pupusa: beef was a bit chewy so I prefer the traditional
Corn tamales: OMGGGG I’ve never had one of these either! We actually didn’t even know we ordered it O_​o still omgoodness the flavor of corn is just divine.
Chicken&Pork tamales: the texture of the tamale is a lot different than any other I’ve tasted. It reminded me of porridge haha but flavor wise is good
Shrimp soup: I had a taste of this and pretty good! Good amount of shrimp too
Overall: YUM YUM YUM love love love the corn tamales! :D wish I took some pics because we had a feast going on but we eat everything too fast ;P

Well I’ll start off by saying I’ll be back. Although I wasn’t too impressed with the length of time it took to receive my meal after I ordered, I was happy to have a hot pupusa and taco made fresh!
The pupusa wasn’t anything TOO spectacular (I am spoiled with homemade ones from my friend’s family), but the pastor taco was AMAZING! Better than any taco truck! I am already looking forward to going back, but this next time I want five of them! Haha

I found my place for good and cheap Pupusas! Great location and easy to find. The place is at a corner location. Inside is pretty clean with many seats for groups. There have a flat screen TV’s to watch sports.
Their pupusas are pretty decent size and not made with lots of dough like a couple of places I have been to. It comes with different meats and can customize extras. My fave is still the cheese pupusas and add jalapeños in it. Their hot sauce is good! Their empanada leches are very good, too! I really love their shakes especially it’s made with real fruit and not the powder stuff! Everything is under $ 10. I think my only compliant here, we ordered ahead of time and still had to wait 20 minutes or so after.
Will have to try the rest!

Lifesaver! For thanksgiving the fam bam decided to do a potluck instead of a traditional dinner. Short on time and after discovering that they’d be open on thanksgiving day I called to place my order. They were friendly and punctual. They gave me plenty of sides and sauce. I also ordered the plantains for a sweet dessert. Everyone loved the pupusas and asked where I bought them at. It seems like forever when you are sitting and waiting there but they are worth the wait.
