We hired Josh for our wedding in Vermont in 2011 and our engagement shoot, which we did in NYC (meatpacking and east village) as well. We hired him after seeing work he did for another wedding, which we though was excellent. What we got met our high expectations. The other really nice thing about Josh was how efficient he worked particularly when we did all the wedding party /​family shots. It wasn’t rushed, we got all the pics we wanted, but we also didn’t have to spend hours doing it. I’ve spent more time as a groomsmen getting a couple of shots than we did for everything. We got more time to spend with our friends and family to enjoy the wedding, which was a gift, and the photos turned out great.

We found Joshua online and decided to use him after meeting with several photographers, viewing his portfolio, and meeting with him in person. He is laid back and very calm, but also very professional and a man of his word. We got married at night in the middle of winter, under challenging lighting conditions. Joshua still took excellent pictures. The best part of using Joshua is that his timing was fantastic. He captured candid moments that many wedding photographers, who emphasize «traditional» wedding shots, would have missed. If you’re going to use him, this is something that you need to be aware of, and want for yourselves. Although he still does some traditional posed shots, he takes more of a «street photographer» approach to his photography, rather than classic, run of the mill wedding photos. Joshua stayed as late as we needed him and patiently worked with us after the fact to narrow down the pictures we wanted for our album. His website is very easy to use and we received our photos without a long wait. A final point worth noting: Joshua’s assignment with us ended approximately two hours early. Even though we got married five years ago, Joshua is sticking to his word to let us complete our time with him at a location of our choosing. This speaks volumes about his integrity and honesty. I highly recommend him.

My husband & I found him on Unilocal & we instantly fell in love w/Joshua’s photography & videography. We met him & hired him for our engagement photos. Joshua was very personable, professional & willing to travel around uptown Harlem w/​us for our photos. Our photos will forever be cherished especially since Joshua was able to capture photos of our handsome Shar Pei. Joshua’s eye for detail is impeccable & I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

My now husband and I were very particular with how we wanted our wedding day and photography. From the beginning we knew we wanted amazing, more candid photos of the day instead of more posed, formal portraits. I stumbled on Joshua’s website and was floored. Just go and look for yourself, his images truly are amazing! We booked him for our May 2014 wedding and he was fantastic.
I do think that Joshua is not for certain brides. He was exactly what we wanted, but again if you want lots of portraits, posed pictures, an hour long photo sesh with your husband, then Joshua is not for you. He truly is a photojournalist at your wedding. (I feel like a lot of photographers these days say they are but are not…) Now don’t get me wrong, we do have portraits and bridal party shots, but those aren’t his focus. He really is mostly interested in capturing organic moments during the day. If you want to recreate a photo you saw in a magazine or pinterest, he is not for you. (And I only say all this to save some brides time in the research process!)
We also loved Joshua because he has such a calming, relaxed demeanor. He would never interrupt and ask to take guests’ pictures (I don’t love that) but if a guest asked for one he would obviously oblige. He was basically nowhere and everywhere at once and I loved that. The idea of being the center of attention for a whole day was overwhelming and scary to me, and Joshua’s style of shooting made me feel so comfortable. He actually did pull me away once during the reception because the light was great over the by the window and by that time I was so comfortable with him I was excited and happy to get some solo shots with him!
Honestly, I can’t say enough about him and his work. The ONLY reason I didn’t give him the full five stars (other than Unilocal doesn’t let you give a 4.5 rating) is that sometimes it can be a couple of days to hear back from him (at least when I booked him two years ago). But the important thing is I never felt that I couldn’t trust/​rely on him both before and on the wedding day.
I just wish I had hired him to shoot our rehearsal dinner! (And my mother was the first to say that! Both our families seriously loved the images as much as we did.)

Hiring Joshua Brown to take our wedding photos was one of the best decisions we made! I found Joshua online after browsing through countless photographer’s websites. When I saw his photos, I immediately knew he would be capable of capturing our day in the more relaxed style I was hoping for. His rates were very competitive and the booking process was simple and straightforward. He was prompt and courteous throughout all of our email exchanges in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding. In addition to the base package, we paid to have Joshua bring a second photographer and had him set up a photo booth which was triggered by our guests.
We were married at the Bowery Hotel in NYC in May 2014, and we are so thrilled with how our photos turned out. Joshua and his associate were able to capture so many incredible moments… from the getting ready shots, to our first look and couple portraits, to the ceremony and the reception, the photos truly express the the beauty and emotion of the entire day. I love the candid feeling of the photographs. Looking back at them allows me to not only re-​live the day as I remember it, but to see it through the eyes of all of our guests.
I am so grateful to Joshua and his associate for the fantastic job they did! They were were professional and unobtrusive throughout the ceremony and reception, and I was amazed by both the quantity and quality of shots they were able to get. My fiancé and I hired Joshua Brown for our engagement, rehearsal dinner, and wedding photography. I was referred to Joshua from my wedding planners Duke + Van Deusen after they scoped out his amazing work online. I am so glad they found Joshua Brown. He is extremely talented in his photography. He took our engagement photos on a cold windy day in Brooklyn and I was sure I was going to hate all of them due to the weather. Turns out I loved almost every single photo. His photography stands out from the rest of wedding photographers. He takes photos of people and the emotion of people. You can tell he is an artist with a natural eye for good angles, lighting, etc. His rate was flat fee per hour and I hired him for the number of hours I needed. He sent us our engagement photos the very next day after our shoot then were were able to pick our favorites for retouching (which we haven’t had a chance to do yet). If you are looking for a photo journalistic photographer who is a true artist, then Joshua Brown is for you. Everyone tells us our photos look like they are straight from a magazine I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.

From the very beginning, working with Joshua was an absolute pleasure. We started by setting up a Skype call and just chatting about what we were looking for and the services he could provide – he and his team do it all. He also quickly provided two past references that showed us their galleries and explained their experience working with him. We ended up booking Joshua along with a second photographer, videographer, & photo booth.
When we met Joshua for our engagement shoot, he was very easy to talk to and fun to work with. He worked quickly and was able to direct us through the engagement shoot getting all the shots we wanted as well as ones that he thought would look good.
On the day of the wedding, it was as if Joshua and his team were not even there. His camera doesn’t make any shutter noises so even during quiet times during the ceremony you didn’t hear him. As a matter of fact, he blended in so well that we didn’t even know where he was at times. Just like at the ceremony, Joshua and his team blended into the reception taking great shots but also somehow were always around when a group wanted to take a posed shot!
Turnaround time on the photos and video were great. We received a first look preview of photos within 2 weeks and our highlight video the week after. All photos were fully edited within a month!
I can’t speak highly enough about working with Joshua and the quality of his work. He is well worth every penny he charges.

My husband and I had a terrible experience with Joshua Brown. We initially hired him because we loved his photography on his website. We also loved the pictures and videos he did for my friend’s wedding, and that friend even vouched for him.
We got in touch with him, and had a nice interview with him. That was the last of our nice experience with him…
Major things that we did not like:
— He did not photograph any of the bridal party pictures, stating that it was «too sunny and bright» and wanted to wait till the sun came down a little. Never happened. just a few bridal party pics in our bridal suite. Don’t photographers carry equipment to help with such things as brightness? This breaks my heart to NO END and I have been bitter about it ever since.
— Rude to guests. Many guests complained to me after our wedding on his attitude.
— Poor communication– sometimes it would take days/​over a week to get back to me.
— Didn’t know his contract:
1. the week of the wedding, he asked me about how I was going to arrange for him to get to my wedding, but i clearly paid transportation fees. so i thought he would handle that?
2. tried to leave about an hour early
3. didnt send me a video I ordered and when i complained, sent me a video that was clearly hastily put together.
— While some of the pictures ARE nice, the majority look like they could have been done by an amateur. FOR INSTANCE: my sister’s head is cut off in a picture where the bridesmaids are just standing for a group shot… who does that? (this is just one example)
— We hired 2 photographers (joshua was one of the photogs) and 2 videographers — - i told Joshua that I wanted 1 photographer to capture general traditional photographs and the other to capture pics in a more journalistic style… candids if you will. examples were like my groom’s reaction when he saw me for the first time in the wedding gown. Does it surprise you by now if i told you that this photo did not take place? Other pictures also missing include: one of my bridesmaids going down the aisle, my piano players, my Scripture readers, key people in our wedding. I mean these would be more traditional shots that would be typical in a wedding. Instead, we have a lot of portraits of people’s faces… They look stone cold because they are all sitting there watching the ceremony happening. Where were all the pictures of the joy and fun people had at the ceremony… at the reception? no shots of the overall atmosphere of my reception and ceremony. I mean, Im not a photographer, but I know what shots are important! Really, what was the point of having two photographers? I remember looking over and seeing Joshua help out the 2 videographers. Shouldn’t he have hired people who knew what they were doing? and take better pics at my wedding? like they were hired to do? and the wedding ceremony video was as if someone just used a camcorder from the 1990s. The sound was awful. Oh and I had sent him a list of group shots I wanted with my guests. He did not organize anything, and it ended up being very disorganized and so either a lot of groups were smooshed together or not in any pictures altogether.
— The poses that he made us do were the same 3 damn poses (pardon my language) he made us do in our engagement photos. And at our engagement photo shoot, he told me one of my ideas was «cheesy» and didn’t do it. Otherwise, if you can get past those 3 poses, those pictures were pretty good. prolly cause it was a cloudy day. cause as you remember, he didnt photograph our bridal party pics because it was too sunny.
THE ONE THING that was good… my wedding same day edit and finalized edit video. but even that was messed up when he spelled my name wrong. Seemed like it would have been a simple fix, and when asked to fix it, he somehow took out the perfect opening scene that it was in and when i asked him to put it back, he had no idea what I was talking about, and replaced it with something that makes this no longer the perfect wedding video.
It was a very expensive service, and it makes me sick to my stomach that I paid that much for such bad service and quality. If you knew how hard we saved for this wedding (i am a social worker and at the time, my husband was a full time grad school student), to make sure we had these beautiful moments captured, it would make you sick too. Especially when you know he does have talent and chose not to utilize that said talent on the biggest day of your life.

My husband and I hired Joshua Brown Photography to take photos and video of our May wedding. Joshua and his team were excellent! Not only were they professional and timely, but they also made my husband and I feel comfortable and at ease throughout the day. Joshua and his team were kind, friendly, and unobtrusive. They were all very discreet in capturing every special moment while still being available whenever my husband or I needed. When we received our photos and video, we could not have been happier with our decision to hire Joshua!!! Our photos are absolutely gorgeous. We were so lucky to have found Joshua! As we planed our wedding in New York we had no recommendations in the area. Found him online and as soon as we saw his portfolio we were so impressed. My husband and I just received our photos for portraits, ceremony and reception and they are stunning! We’ve shared with family and friends and they all are also so impressed. He has a keen eye to capture great casual moments without being in your face, we didn’t even notice him much around at the wedding but after looking at the photos he was everywhere and capturing great natural moments with our family and friends. Would totally recommend him, definitely a very professional photographer and we are lucky to have him doing weddings, specially gay weddings. Amazing talent.

Professionally, Joshua is very prompt in responding to emails, and he makes himself available to attend to any questions, concerns, etc.
As a photographer, Joshua has a great eye for capturing gorgeous shots. We held our wedding at the Roundhouse at Beacon Falls in Beacon, NY, and we had wanted to take pictures on the grounds of the Dia. Unfortunately, when we showed up, they were closing. Joshua suggested we take a picture in the parking lot and I thought he was crazy but it turned into one our favorite pictures. In fact, we used it as our Christmas card pic! People always ask where we took the picture and when we tell them a parking lot, they can’t believe it!
Joshua has a real knack for capturing great moments, and he is not in your face about it. There’s nothing about him that’s «wedding photographer cheesy.» He doesn’t go around sticking his camera in everyone’s faces which is so appreciated when you just want your guests to be having fun.
We ended up with around 1000 pictures that perfectly encapsulated the romance and FUN of our wedding day! I HIGHLY recommend Joshua. I also recommend adding the video to your package. Beautifully shot, it’s a real bonus!

Joshua was great! My wife and I were married in July and we had him take our engagement and wedding photos. I wasn’t picky about too many of our wedding details, but when my wife showed me a few options for photographers, Joshua’s work really stood out. He was professional, incredibly easy to get along with, and overall a great guy to have capture the best moments of our event. Throughout the day he was calm and we barely noticed him as the night went on. But, when we received the images, he had caught everything! The photos we received were perfect — he excels at capturing the candid moments that we’ll want to remember, in an artistic way. We are still hearing from our friends and family how much they love the photos. If I could give Joshua 10 stars I would — highly recommended!

I cannot recommend Joshua highly enough. He is a true artist and has incredible passion for his work. It shows. My husband and I are thrilled with the photos and video he shot of our wedding day. We have gotten comment after comment about how beautiful and unique the portfolio is.
Joshua is amazingly easy to work with. He was there to capture every important moment but no one ever noticed him. It was like he was invisible! And when he was visible, he had an incredibly calming presence, which was very important on that day.
We didn’t know what to expect from a video — it was a last minute decision — and it blew us away. I am so happy we decided to have one made and to work with Joshua and his team on it. Again, they captured everything but were never obtrusive in anyway.
We were very please with the whole experience and the results which we will happily look at forever!

Josh Brown is a decent photographer, when he bothers to show up and take the pictures. My experience of him at my best friend’s wedding was that he was lazy and not very friendly. He spent a lot of the time leaning against the wall, looking very bored. I actually recommended him (my photographer was busy and passed his name along), hence the mea culpa here. The two stars are because some of the photos he took are quite nice – the missing there stars are because you cannot count on him and because he is not a fun person to have to work with.

Joshua Brown shot our wedding in 2011 with himself and a team of videographers. We have yet to receive our final wedding video with the raw footage as promised and we paid for this additional service. We have constantly contacted him over the years and he has been unresponsive. He has been unprofessional in this manner. We hope that he delivers as promised for all of his clients, because for us, he did not.

At first look of Joshua’s portfolio when I was conducting my search for our wedding photographer (I can’t say how much I value photos of significant life events) I teared up a little bit — they were beautiful, uniquely authentic, non pretentious, and full of love and life. It turned out that all those qualities were not only true, but also exceptionally valuable combining with Joshua and his team’s professionalism, charisma, and ability to let us not to worry anything regarding our photos and video and logistics around them, just focusing on enjoying the once in a lifetime experience.
They are extremely pleasant to work with, and Joshua knows how to make us feel at ease and natural. What’s also amazing about Joshua was he can somehow make himself invisible while doing an awesome job right near us. At our wedding, we did what we wanted to do — enjoy with our friends and family. We didn’t need to think about posing which we were really poor at — and the photos turn out to be wonderful.

When my (now) husband and I were looking for wedding photographers, we had a lot of trouble finding that somewhat casual meets classic meets professional wedding photographer that we had always envisioned. We were just about to go with someone who we knew we weren’t going to love, when I saw Joshua’s photos on the Brooklyn Bride blog. We immediately booked our date and never looked back.
Even though we knew we were happy with our decision and thrilled to get the types of pictures we wanted, the best part of working with Joshua was the experience. He was unobtrusive and extremely easy to work with. Our family wanted a variety of posed family photos, which Josh was able to knock out in about 15 minutes — and everyone’s eyes are open and they are smiling — a feat we’ve never accomplished in my family in 30 years!
When we finally saw the pictures, we were thrilled. The moments we wanted to remember had been captured beautifully, with everyone looking their absolute best! Josh also helped us set up a photo booth type area and many of our friends and family members ended up using their photo booth pictures as family portraits — they were beautiful!
Working with Joshua couldn’t have been better, from start to finish.

The moment we arrived at Joshua’s website, we knew that we had found our photographer. Josh’s photos had us laughing, smiling and going «awww…» He captures not only the sights of the day, but more importantly the emotions. It seems a bit futile to try to write about the quality of his photos in words — his photos really speak for themselves:

His demeanor is calm, professional and yet friendly. Out of all our vendors, Joshua was consistently the quickest to respond. On the day of the wedding, he was unobtrusive and yet managed to capture hundreds of memorable shots of us, our friends and our family. My wife called him the «sniper» photographer. He even put together a slideshow of the day’s photos for our guests to enjoy during the reception (and then took photos of the guests’ expressions while they watched the slideshow).
Photography was one area where we were willing to spend, and although Josh’s services weren’t the cheapest around, we are most pleased with the results. If we had to do it all over again, we would definitely hire him again.

Wedding photography is usually a bit stiff in my opinion. When my (now) wife and I were looking at photographers to shoot our wedding, they all tended to blur together.
Josh’s work immediately jumped out at us and there was no question in our mind that we wanted to hire him. I’ve never seen so much life and energy in wedding photography before. He captured the event in a way no one else could.
We were highly pleased with the result, and can’t recommend him enough!!!
