This is a really neat, often overlooked hiking area of Newbury Park. Nestled along Lynn Road between Wendy and Reino is a nice open space(often called the Portrero Open Space) that is chock full of fire roads, and animal hewn paths. This by far isn’t the place for mountain bikers, but if you want a strenuous uphill hike, this might be it… There is a new community south of reino, east of the fire station, where if you climb up the left ‘uphill’ street you will hit a trail head, that will eventually bring you all the way across the hill to Reino. This is the one part today that I tried, but anyone in newbury park knows of the other extent which starts at the Reino wash(across from the fire station) that veins out all through the hills well beyond Dos Vientos into the canyon… This is a great place to try, because you can’t really get lost.
